Jeff Bezos has broken his own personal net worth record after his fortune reached $171.6 billion - as shares of Amazon surged by 4.4 per cent.

What happened with the divorce?

Didn't the wife take some Pesos from Bezos?

But honestly, who cares about his wealth?

Knowing how much he has won't change a damn thing in any of our lives. It's as useful as knowing how much Musk, Zuckerberg, Gates and Buffett have.

All social constructs with no intrinsic value. A numerical value made up from FIAT currency that tomorrow might not even be worth a food stamp.

Some days i wish Snake Plissken would push the button, releasing that Worldwide EMP across the world, rendering all electronics useless.

Instead of Google, we'd have to travel to friends and neighbors to ask about certain things, and some days even travel to great Libraries and Universities where all the Scholars were.

Getbig could be a special Lodge located in four places in the world, United States, United Kingdom, Denmark and and Italy, where we had to travel to meet other Getbiggers, read books and smoke pipe while conversing about matters of the world.

What pushes guys like Bezos to keep going?
I know Amazon is his baby, but I would cash out and retire with a smile on my face.

Why deal with the unnecessary stress of running a company when you don't have to anymore?

If I had to guess, I'd say it's lust for POWER.

After you make a certain amount, the value of money isn't as real as it once was. What then becomes real is the influence you have by way of the money. It's the same reason people value guys like Warren Buffett. He's not the smartest man alive, but he is one of the richest. The kind of influence money affords you, once you reach a certain level, allows you to move nations, which in turn is a sign of power.

These guys want to be remembered throughout the ages my good friend Shizzo.

Lol! There are plenty of successful people that sell a successful business or idea, and you never hear from them again. Guys like Bezos are meglomaniacs. He likes to know that he is in control of an "Empire".

Any sane person would cash out a billionaire, and live in peace. Let's say Bezos decided to retire, and the company eventually folds under someone else's control. He gets to smile that the company folded without his guidance and leadership. A "win win" situation.

I saw a video with Bezos recently where he talked about a vacation in Norway. He said that he prefers working over having holiday. Who knows if he is being truthful or not... but he can certainly retire if he burns out.

An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked.  Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna.  The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The Mexican replied, “only a little while. The American then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs. The American then asked, “but what do you do with the rest of your time?”

The Mexican fisherman said, “I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos.  I have a full and busy life.” The American scoffed, “I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing, and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise.”

The Mexican fisherman asked, “But, how long will this all take?”

To which the American replied, “15 – 20 years.”

“But what then?” Asked the Mexican.

The American laughed and said, “That’s the best part.  When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions!”

“Millions – then what?”

The American said, “Then you would retire.  Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos.”

Have seen this story used for ages.

Sadly, that calm life by the shore, playing guitar with the amigos is fine for the real modest/humble. Power tastes different to some. Why live a simple life, when you can mold humanity to your will? While the Mexican is too busy trying to catch a few fish, Bezos would be draining the lake from the other side to carve out space for his next distribution warehouse.

That's where these guys are going. For the average person or even average millionaire, having true financial freedom & independence would be enough to do whatever they want for the rest of their lives without ever having to work another day of their lives (you know the true measure of wealth being the person that has the most time to do with it as the wish).

The difference is that when you get to the level Bezos and these guys get to, making slaves out of humanity and making entire countries your playgrounds is where the real erections come from.

What about Steve Jobs?

My impression is that some of these guys were complete outcasts before they made it big. Then when they sense the money and the power, they try to get back what they lost in earlier years. They become pricks.

Maybe you have to be a smart, cold, calculated, and relentless asshole to begin with.

You make his retiring from amazon sound very simple but it certainly is not. Also I would imagine Bezos loves Amazon, its his baby. I dont think he would trade ownership of amazon for any amount of money. I also do not believe the money matters to him so much as getting rich is unlikely why he started the company in the first place. Success is never an accident true but genuine passion cannot be faked and greed never drives it.

I wonder how this works...not to subscribe to conspiracy theories, but I wonder if the Rothschild family decides to fund people for projects with huge potential, on the early on thinking that those people will be easy to control.

Early in Hitler's rise, he got a lot of early on funding by people who had hoped they would be able to control him.  Hitler ended up taking the power, and telling the people who wanted to control him to fuck themselves, lol.  The ultimate definition of being your own master, and servant of no one.

The action is what keeps them ticking. They’re wired differently, these super successful people. He’s working non-stop I’d say. He doesn’t need to but as they say “the devil makes work for idle hands”. When you retire completely they say you die younger. You need purpose. They understand sitting still doesn’t get you anywhere. He’s a man of action.

I’m sure Jeff does plenty of cardio. It seems to be prevalent among Fortune 500 CEO’s.

Great success in one endeavor does not guarantee success in another.

Being wealthy often imbues one with delusions of having great wisdom.

Case in point: Mark Cuban.

Well - NONE of us should pay what we are forced to. I know that we certainly do. This delusion that wealthy pay no taxes is just nonsensical.
What could you possibly use as a basis that his over / under for taxes is $10? That can only be based on a lack of understanding of how a man like Bezos wealth is “calculated”. Those shares being placed at a certain value have NOTHING to do with his actual INCOME.
Do you really believe that taxes should be paid on the value of stock held? If he lost billions in stock value should the government pay him???

It’s far too complex for a discussion here - but I’ll go on a limb and bet my actual life that he pays far more than $10.

Good for him.  Started Amazon from nothing.  Never made a profit in like 20 years but managed to keep growing it to the monster it is today.

A big part of their success is how they build their relationship with the brands.

They are super easy to deal with. They don't ask for the Earth. They don't extort. They don't squeeze you for every last cent.

Customers like them + brands like them = massive success.
