not very easy. Typically merchants only release video to the police. CC companies aren't really interested in catching the thief. Anything under 50K is typically a write off.
-
i called my cc company and asked where the occurrence was. then searched for the number of the hotel. called it. talked the receptionist into telling me the name and description of the thief who used my card, Under the guise i was a investigator for the cc company. Looked thief up on social media, all of them use it they cant help it.
then called local LE in that area gave identify and location of criminal.(who stole from me!!!) found him they kicked in the door and he is rotting in obama heaven.

Bullshit. They'd arrest you for impersonating and do nothing to catch the guy.
I forwarded details of transactions to the police after having my wallet thieved. Also gave them a thumb drive with video I got from a shop which clearly showed the aboriginal woman's face. The fat woman at the desk behaved as if I was asking way too much of her when I gave her these 2 items of evidence. I followed up week later and was basically told not to hassle them because they're busy. Two weeks later I followed up again anyway and was told they had no list and no thumb drive, and it must have been misplaced. But I can bring it all to them again, 2 hours from my house, if I would like to. ::)
Defund the police.

Let me know the card number, expiration date, and cvs on the back and I’ll take care of it for you :)
-
I just had cc fraud on one of my cards. Some dumbass tried to buy over $900 worth of shoes from various online retailers. If they would have just tried 1 or 2 purchases it probably wouldn't have been flagged.

???
Why?? Just file a dispute with the bank

i had the opportunity to catch this person in the act. i chose to do so. he was wanted for other things, obviously, and the cops do and want to help if you know how to treat them with respect instead of complaining or acting like a victim. You have to take things into your own hands if you want things done. laws are backwards and if people keep just saying things like "why not just wait for the cc dispute to happen" passiveness mentality. but you want cops to be heroes. why wont you be one?
hope you find the person on social media. they are all on it.

You gotta catch these things quick and you'll be fine.
Someone opened a CC using an old address when I lived in Cali. One of the CCs I have now gives me free credit/fraud monitoring and sent me an alert, including the CC that was opened and the CC company's phone number. I called that CC company and they cancelled the card immediately. Then I informed Experian about it. They only got away with $75 before the card was cancelled.
That's about all you can do. You'll most likely never find out who the thief was.

I had a different experience here in Aus. I presented them with everything they needed on a silver platter and they did nothing.
They're just like any other government employee. Zero consequence for poor performance.

Idk why you continue to play Australian. English is clearly not your first language, sir.
But if you insist. Name a government department here which interacts with and serves the public well, and isn't jam packed with obese halfwit layabouts who wouldn't last a week in the private sector.

Most government departments have translators to assist you in your native tongue. They could get you one of those fat broads who stand next to the podium waving their hands around.

Im sorry you had that experience. What they should have told you was this
It's a waste of our time and yours. Unless we are talking large sums of money, the CC company won't prosecute. Police could have video of the crook posing with the credit card, holding up a passport with their information visible, could narrate as they buy a TV at Best Buy with your card and after the police go through the trouble of putting the case together, CC will decline prosecution. It just isnt worth their time. They'd rather write it off. Plus if the credit card company refunds your money, you are no longer a victim, and can't do squat about it, it's the CC who is now the victim and again, they won't follow through. Even on amounts in the 50K range best case is after months of putting together a case to prosecute, the CC company uses the potential filing of charges to scare the crook into entering a civil agreement to pay a lump sum or payments.

I was into busting her ass for other reasons. It was an aboriginal kid who went into my van while I was working (normally locked, didn't that time, mea culpa) and stole my wallet. Probably her granddaughter. The $400 was adios but I at least wanted the satisfaction.
And a very distant second reason was getting the kid a slap on the wrist so some part of her would know it wasn't ok. Being raised that way, and praised for stealing the kid probably thinks it's the right thing to do. Doomed before her life is even begun.
That's the Australian Aboriginals for you. Disaster human beings and no one will say a word about it so nothing gets solved. I even heard the theory that they trashed the case because prosecuting Aborigines is impossible and nothing but a headache. They're untouchable. Petty theft isn't as bad as it gets either. There's some really awful shit in that community. Incestuous pedophilia is rampant. Once, when whites saw what was going on they took the kids out of there and tried to raise them right. Nowadays those kids are called The Stolen Generation and the Aboriginal community demands an apology for it every year.
