Thought it'd be worthwhile to share some of the top bodybuilding & fitness photographers working today. The bodybuilders and fitness/figure stars deserve kudos for all their hard work developing their bodies, but these photographers deserve some credit for recording them at their best and showing off what they've created. Here's a start:
John Stutz

The guy who tricked Mo "lestd" should be mentioned ....
He was taking pics and asked if he could touch his weiner ...
Classic Ownage
-
Then he went to the cops to report a rape, the cops then asked Mo
"...what the hell were you doing with nothing but a thong on ?? Did you expect him to think otherwise..do you do that for all stranger??"
-
One of the best and most published photgraphers in all the muscle Mags is Sunstar. My old friend Gene Mozee is pretty good too I think. Sunstar is also has the distinction of being the most published photgrapher in the world and has the largest private photo library in the world. His piture of him with the dolphin jumping over him got him paid $60,000 from a film company I can't remember its name.

I'll add Gene Hwang of:
www.orangephotography.com (http://www.orangephotography.com)
and
www.ftvideo.com (http://www.ftvideo.com)

Artie Zeller was an old timer but he was great.
-
Gotta go with the late Art Zeller. And yes, because of those classic Arnold shots. ;D
-
Why isn't Joe Valdez on that list??

Good choice. His portfolio of B&W physique photos is excellent. He has a great Coleman bicep flex picture.

Thanks man. Gene is an old timer. I think he helps run Ironage or some website. He was the first person to interview Arnold in the US. His phot collection from the 60 and 70 is unmatched. Just unreal. Had a fallout with Weider then got back with him

Nice website for Sunstar. His color is just unreal. And unlike other photographers he is very simple. His photoshoots consist on him and one other person holding a reflector and thats it. No super fancy shit. His house is on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. He developed a method for his clients to choose photos in realtime. He would setup his laptop computer on a table on the beach and through wireless connection have his camera hooked up to it. He would do a photoshoot and in real time the client could bein New York and view the snapshots as they are taken. They would tell him which one and they were done. Unreal technology and idea. I helped him on a few shoots and it was amazing. He once was shooting in Waikiki and had his camera bag sitting on the bench next to him. Well he and the model would get shooting and moving farther away from his bag and they ended up getting stolen. 3 digitals $10,000+ Nikons were stolen. It was an expensive shoot. When he went difital he told me he was saving about $5,000 to $8,000 a month in just developing and film costs. A little weird to shoot with though sometimes.

They don't get much better than Eric Jacobson, of Impact Photography. ;D

Horton's real workout photos, like the Ronnie Metroflex stuff, is the best in the biz, hands down. 8)

I like artie zellers old gym shots from the 70`s in the mags as well as the first prinitng of arnold`s encyclopedia..
I used to like Chris Lunds until they got too bullshit with the quarter squats with 7 plats on the smith machine in short jean shorts.

Picsman, Are you the photographer? If so, don't you want to provide your real name and a link to your website? Pics are pretty good.

Chris Lund and Kevin Horton. Kevin's pics from the 1994 English Grand Prix were awesome - they were published in Flex. Of course, his best pics were the ones he shot of the Offseason dorian prior to the 1993 Mr. O to highlight the gains Doz had made in 1 year. Can someone post Kevin's black and white pics from the 1994 English Grand prix, specifically Kevin Levrone's Hands-clasped Most Muscular and Dorian Yates' right-arm-bicep flexed Side Chest?
-
Picsman, Can you take these photos down? These aren't the type of female fitness/bodybuilding shots that emphasize my topic. I'm sure Claire's put in some great time building her muscles, but her shots really stopped this topic in it's tracks.
agreed, these shots are hardly "Best" photographers caliber - self promotion is good but know where your legacy stands before you throw your hat in with some of the greats.
-
Agreed, those photos are far from any good and they are kind of repulsive. I took my daughters and grandson down too cause I didn't want them associated with these girls.
-
hey guys...go f*ck yourselves....you've earned it....too bad this women put you to shame...you guys must really be pathetic losers to be intimidated by a female bodybuilder...lol...you pussys....don't worry...I won't post any more pics here....of anyone...including the figure/fitness chicks...so I guess you got what you wanted....but you know what....I don't give a rats a*ss....yeah yeah...I know...your pussy expression is comin up...melt down...blow me...now you can go nuthug some male bodybuilder...lol...path etic...

:( We miss you :'(

This is a BB board. Women BB's belong here. The internet is full of the bony fashion look you hanker after. Go find it and knock yourselves out.
Keep the women athletes coming. Picsman, she's lived with this stuff in the real world to have achieved what she has, the net is no different.
Definately a fan of hard work.
cheers
-
I don't think Picsman is an actual photographer. He is a fan who buys a case of those disposable cameras at one time and goes at it. Considering the camera he uses the photos are okay. A better camera would get better results. And maybe in a couple of the pics turing off the lights and leaving the lens cap on would be a good idea. Other than that he is good. ::)
-
Per Bernal - hands down! MD wouldnt be as good without him
second to this
-
Agreed. Per Bernal is awesome. No one has had muscles explode when he has taken their photos have they?
-
These guys are not as good as everyone thinks.
Good at fooling people into thinking that they are good is all.
and good at photo image editing.
see the after and before effects of good computer software
-
I like the darker image.
What's wrong with using Photoshop to create the desired effect?

John's subject compositions are unique enough , every professional photographer photoshops images to get best possible quality and image clearity– but picman’s images are just point and shoot style – low grade amateur at best.
-
Don't forget about mr. artist himself "David Paul",this guy is just simply amazing,so talented it's scary.I don't even think he uses digital,he's from the old school.
-
I like Sunstar. I have been on many photo shoots with him and he is very simple when he shoots. A camera and one reflector. Thats it. We would drive around the island to follow the sun if it got cloudy. Most of his pics were taken right at his beatiful beach house in Lanikai. One of the mst picture perfect views in all of Hawaii. The sand is powder and the waters are clear as heck with some smaller islands about 1/2 mile off shore.
-
A few more. His color is just awesome.
-
hey onlyme, some fantastic shots there,i just can't get over the colours-just amazing.Hawaii-sure looks like paradise
-
Joe Valdez has a great collection of pictures, when he passed away, he left them for Bill Comstock to take care of. While these are some of the best, us little guys watch, and take pictures in the hopes of one day elevating to that level. Isaac Hinds takes pictures for NPC/Ironman, Irv Gelb for various magazines, Bill Comstock for Ironman/Graphic Muscle, Ian for bb.com, dont forget Robert Kennedy and John Bailik and J.M. Manion takes pics respectively. As for me, I try to take some good shots, and once in a while, a clasic shot is there!
-
A little weird to shoot with though sometimes.
Ain't that the truth. He did several sessions with my kids. He's a little strange.

Yes his use of color is the best around. He does allot for the magazines. Here are some more. And it is beautiful here.

You shot with Sun. I might have some pics of your kids. He gave me several CD's with pics. Are any of these your kids. And do you live here. Was his house and location the best anywhere. the guest house is awesome. I heard Michael Jackson stayed there once.

See my post from May 2006 on the best bodybuilding/fitness photographers (http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=66731.msg983717#msg983717 (http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=66731.msg983717#msg983717)). Jumpstart,

I agree some really cool shots.
90%+ of his shots are literally done in his back yard. His house in right on the water with one of the most maginifcent views in the world. Very private and just picture perfect.
