Too ornate and a little tacky looking. I’ve seen better. I prefer modern design with clean lines and not busy looking in every room.
-
I didn't fall in love either. Muddled themes. Deco with anything else is jarring. Baroque ornamentation can't accent or punctuate. You gotta go deep. Layers, as I intend to on a far smaller scale. Gilding must be used sparingly. Unless you're Louis XIV, it's just Trumpish. Also noted the usual unambitious plastering tarted up with millwork. Too bad since the Venetian arcade exterior advertises that a few guys would have left their elbows on the job.
Even if I had the dough it's just too grand a scale. I like cosy. Not cluttered but full. When you want to fuck your girl you don't want to have to hunt around for her for half an hour.
Some philistine will get to feel like a king when he buys it tho. People with more money than taste need to keep the rain off too.

If it’s in Florida it’s not the best house in America

Agreed, it's definitely not my style.
Also kind of crazy that they were asking $159M and it sold at auction 2 years ago for $42.5M! I'm guessing the seller wasn't thrilled with that lol!

Looks like a Vegas hotel. Too close to the water. Erosion will get to it before too long.
-
That home is incredible but this is more Getbigger style...

Cannot compare with Melvin Goodrum, MSN, C3PO, HTLV3s abode.
well this is true

Is this the place Xfactor bought?
-
i like this house imported from overseas. it's located in Yonkers NY.

If it’s in Florida any place that was part of the Confederacy...it’s not the best house in America

Water features are nice, but that is it. Too gilded and tacky for my tastes. I would rather have a house like this in the southern provence of France with a vineyard.
(of course I already live 1/3rd of a mile from the beach, so it is just me wanting a different scene.)

-Very cool place even if it isn't in America. It's like a modern ruin.
-
I prefer a house that's modest in size and fairly easy to maintain. Instead of a housekeeper, you'd need to have a window washer under contract.
The Glass House, or Johnson house, is a historic house museum on Ponus Ridge Road in New Canaan, Connecticut built in 1948–49.

Speaking of living close to the beach, this 1950's updated mid-century in Laguna Beach suits me just fine....except for the price which is surely much more than I can afford.

Love laguna, spent many summers there during my HS years.

There was a show on HGTV - I can't remember exactly which of the shows it was.. but a man really did buy a set of ruins for 6000 pounds and put 110,000 pounds renovations into it. He had the structure reenforced, had the windows "capped" with impact squares, etc.. in the back part where the roof had collapsed, he turned it into his shower area and an outdoor patio / koi pond. It looked really nice.

Bet it looked nice. Sometimes when I think about how much money I've put into my home over the years, it shocks me. However, my home (humble though it may be) is my castle, so it is worth it. Better this than drugs, sex or fancy cars.

Looks great but can't compare to this.

Well Kwon you got that old photo of my place reversed. It is an interesting concept though. I'm so used to seeing it as it really is, that looking at the reverse just doesn't work visually. Also, this old photo makes me realize that a paint job and $40,000 in new landscape makes a world of difference in how the place looks. Love the name you gave the photo when you saved it....'primrose'.
If you are ever in the neighborhood, stop by. I'll pour you a glass of arsenic laced beer. I don't hold grudges so, you'll be safe.....or not. Don't bring rioters because I will have to take them out with my AK-47. From my vantage point on the hill, that shouldn't be much of a problem.

Don’t you have your entire family living there?

Yes I do. It is very European, sharing one's house with their family. Luckily, there is plenty of room for everyone. Quite frankly, it is a bit of a love/hate situation. There are times when I want to throw them out and live here by myself with my dog, even though it is a ridiculous amount of space for one. Currently, there are four generations of family (5 adults and a baby) somehow managing to avoid killing one another. It's my house, so if it gets to be too much I can ask them to leave. They can well afford their own place. But for reason's I cannot totally comprehend, they prefer living here, (and no, they aren't getting a free ride). When everything is going well, I am grateful for the company.

Exactly.........and it's ugly.

Love the house on Primrose Drive, do you really have an AK-47?
The whole family there with you? AND 5 adults at that!
What if you wanted to invite someone for hanky panky, wouldn't they all hear?
-
Looks like Bellagio in Vegas

I go by Jay.
Not the whole family. My son and his family of live in Germany. A little while back when they visited, they rented an airbnb house nearby.
I've been celibate for many years.

That glass is hideous, ruins what would otherwise be a beautiful stone built property

I must agree with Henda here.
I understand what the architect was thinking and trying here with his combination of two time-periods, but i don't appreciate combining two so different styles like that.
I prefer the old, rustic style and i agree w Henda that they should kept it stone.

Yeah, but if I lived in a glass house I couldn't throw stones. I like throwing stones. My favorite house is Dana Linn Bailey's in Montana.

Does that glasshouse have an elevator down to the real part of the house?
I can accept if that glassed in area is just the foyer.
-
That house is part of a compound. There are work shops and outbuildings on the premises. All photos are composed not to show.
That cylinder contains the toilet and shower. Phillip Johnson slept in that glass box.

its interesting that everyone wants to live someplace other than where they really live.
That's human nature, we always want what we don't have. Once you get something you wanted, you quickly adapt to it and want something else.
This happens to me a lot, but there are things i have today that i wouldn't change.
I live in a medium sized house at the end of a dead end road, it's very quiet and i have a lot of open space around my yard due to a drainage easement. It's like living on 4-5 acres when it's a 1/2 acre lot. Not sure i'll ever move from here anytime soon.

That's a really cool find. Super unique use of the glass.
