i like it because you can lay the back seat down and haul stuff like in a station wagon.
-
You can do that in cars that aren't so fugly too, you know.

73 Datsun B210. Went to Fla. & back stalling every time you took your foot off the gas.
Taught my buddy how to drive a stick in this. He hung it up on a curb at midnight in Orlando. Hilarious times.
Great strip clubs in Orlando in the later 70s. Gorgeous girls.
Was working at GM while driving this. Had labor negotiations going on at the time and the picketers egged me as I drove by.
"Hey you guys! I'm one of you!"

71 Buick LeSabre. Got it up to 120mph and the next day the rear end blew out.
One of my roommates backed into the driver's side door so I had to enter/exit via passenger side.
Used to cover the engine with a blanket in the winter and get up at 3AM to run it for a few minutes so it would start in the morning.

93 Ford Taurus wagon. Married now with kids. Drove it for 13 years until the tranny went and then junked it. (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f7/89-91_Ford_Taurus_wagon.jpg)

96 Ford Explorer Sport. This car bought new and got wrecked in rollover after one month $14,000 damage but they rebuilt it. This thing always felt top-heavy so it's not a surprise it rolled over. Insurance company promptly canceled my policy.

2002 Taurus wagon . Family years. Had about 10 years and no accidents. A miracle! Thing ate brakes. Was in great shape and sold for $4,400.

Me: 13 cars in 44 years of driving. I've never been into cars beyond transportation. My favorite was the 76 Cutlass Supreme which I bought around 1982 and got totaled in 1986. I've never leased a car. I drive them as long as possible or until they get wrecked.
-
;D that's how i am, drive them till they can't be fixed.
-

Looking back I haven't had much luck with cars.
-
I've always been a gearhead.
My first truck in high school was a 1991 F-150 with a V8 351W engine. For a heavy truck it was moderately fast. I lived in the country until i was 19 years old, this was a great farm truck. Had the flowmaster exhaust so it sounded pretty stout. I used to melt the tires leaving the high school parking lot, good time.
I sold it my senior year of high school to buy a Mustang 5.0.
-
1992 Ford Ranger. It was my brothers truck, but he got it stuck in a large drainage ditch and flooded the engine. My friends and i rebuilt the engine with a little help from my friend's dad who was a mechanic. After we rebuilt it my dad sold it to me for $500 because he didn't think it would last very long. I drove it sometimes and ended up selling it for $1500; the guy that bought it totaled it a few months later. I remember this because it was my first manual transmission.
-
1993 Mustang Lx Coupe ex-DPS Police Interceptor. 5.0 with a 5 speed, very fun to drive. Bought it my senior year of high school for $5000, it had 110k miles on it. Drove it for a 2 years and then starting modding it for drag racing. I ended up putting a 331 stroker with ~450hp in it with a TKO 5 speed and 3.73 rear end. This car was very fast because i weighed just under 3k pounds. It got stolen a year later from the parking lot at my job. Turns out a friend of a friend wanted more than i did, stole it and sold it for parts.
-
1998 Ford Mustang Cobra. Was a fun car to drive, it had Borla exhaust and sounded insane at high RPM's. It had the 32v DOHC 4.6L V8 and a 5 speed. Drove it for 3 years and then sold it due to high mileage, apparently these cars went south pretty fast once they hit 150k miles. I didn't have the money to keep up with it, everything on these cars was stupid expensive because they weren't very common.
-
2001 Ford Mustang GT. Had a 4.6L V8 and 5 speed. I drove this for about 8 years. Nice car that was reliable. Had many long distance trips throughout the US in this thing. I sold it to buy a motorcycle, wish i would have kept it.
-
1997 Toyota Camry. ;D These cars are indestructible, i had this for 12 years and it was my daily driver so i could keep the 2001 Mustang GT for weekends. Bullet proof. I should have kept it forever. I sold it to my cousin with 160k miles on it, still ran perfect. She totaled it into a wall a few months later while talking on her cellphone.
-
2006 Ford Escape. I actually still have this vehicle, it's AWD and works great for when it snows. Nothing special about it, i've owned it for a long time and never had problems with it. Has 150k miles on it. Drive it every day.
-
2013 Ford F-150 FX4. Cool truck, the only vehicle i've ever purchased new. Owned it for 2 years and sold it to buy my vette. Was stupid and bought it new, even with a good down payment the car note was retarded. Won't do that again, i only pay cash now or at least 50% down and will not ever buy something new again. Was a fun truck with the twin turbo v6. Lots of room in the back and towed a trailer easily. Also it got 24 MPG if you drove it easy.
-
My favorite toy. ;D 2011 Corvette Z06. Bought this 5 years ago, it was a garage queen with 8k miles on it. I drive it on the weekends sometimes; it sits in the garage most of the time. Has a bunch of mods and upgraded brakes, makes around 575bhp. Crazy fast car and screams like Satan. I tracked this car at many road courses when i lived in Texas, haven't tracked it in about 2 years. I'll keep this car until i die. 427ci LS7 and a 6 speed, it has ridiculous power at all RPM's. 4th gear pulls like 2nd gear, it's like a freight train. I've taken it up to 185 MPH and it was still pulling hard. Crazy enough it gets 28 MPG on the freeway in 6th gear. In the city it gets about 16 i think. I never drive it easy, if i drive it i'm going to have fun.
-
Some nice rides there TIO.

for sure that vette really looks good.

I've always liked fast cars. ;D
There's just something about driving a powerful V8 with a manual transmission.

31 years of driving and I'm only on my 6th car. 2 of those were leases, 1 was brand new and the other 3 were used. Cars have never really been my thing. Plus, my round trip to work is literally 2.3 miles daily.

Word, i'm the opposite, it's like i have to drive something i like. I used to commute a lot when i lived in Houston, so that's part of it.
Now i have a 8 mile drive to work, so i barely drive much.
Since this Covid non-sense started in March, i've driven maybe 2000 miles, and half of that is driving to my parents place in the mountains 100 miles North of me. I typically drive a lot for work, so 15k miles a year is pretty standard. But now everything is online, so that works for me too.
I'm thinking of getting a new daily, my 2006 Escape is starting to have weird electrical gremlins.

Don't get me wrong, I've liked every car that I've owned. Which is probably why I don't change often. If it's fixable, I get it fixed. I just don't fawn over cars that I see and say oh, I've got to have this one or that one.

I never had the extra money to buy performance or luxury cars.
When buying new cars I've always bought base models.
I like the practicality of wagons or vans for carrying stuff.

I'm holding onto gas cars till the death....
My current rides - AMG C43 Coupe, Z4 M40i roadster. The Z4 is a total go-kart 0-60mph in 3.9 seconds - if you can keep it in a straight line that is...
The AMG is 4 years old, the Z4 is 2 years old - have no plans to replace either of them long-term. Not sure how viable the maintenance will be though.

F electric cars and yes my M5 Competition arrived from Germany Oct. 2022.

I love that AMG C43 Coupe. I see so many awesome Mercedes, but I am determined to not fall victim to my impulses of buying a fancy car. I love looking at them, but I find it almost impossible to not treat my cars with borderline contempt. I can't be bothered cleaning them, I can't be bothered maintaining them, I'm always two seconds away from using it as a weapon, and they're just egregious money pits. It pains me to have to pay high prices for maintenance, insurance, vehicle tax, etc.
Every time I see one of the old-school fast Hondas or Nissans, I also fall in love, but I know it's not a great idea for me to buy one. I think we (partner and I) are going to settle on a newer model Jimny. I like the look, it's cheap, and we will use it off-road occasionally. Can throw camping/beach stuff in the back, along with all my empty bottles and bags of crisps.

The C43 is cool on the inside - it's 4 years old now, had it since new and my friend owns a Mercedes repair shop - so fingers crossed for when the 5 year warranty runs out.
As for the old school Hondas/Nissans - there's loads floating about - I always fancied a Skyline - cool cars...

I forgot to mention a 73 Mustang 2-door with a 289 in it.
Had it for a year or so in the late 70s.

Good question.
By 1973 the Mustangs got much heavier.
