They couldn't exist with out government hand outs. Most of the homeless used to hang in a big library by me. They lived in tents in the woods but stayed in the library during the day. They had bathrooms, AC, heat and computers. They were always giving the library headaches with their actions. Talking to them many had social security disability checks. Two homeless friends had $1200 a month and the other $900 a month. I asked them why they didn't pool their money and get a one room apartment? They said it would be throwing money away and it was better to have side by side tents. They all talked about how to get on disability and who to see to apply.

I have met many people like this. I know a guy who lives in California on disability who told me he's selling his paid off house to live in a van because he doesn't want to pay electric, water and upkeep on the house. Even though the house is small and in a shitty town I tell him he's crazy. He knows this as he's on disability for mental issues. ::)

I have a friend who saw Venice turning (in 2003) and predicted it would be a ghetto in less than 20 years. He sold his Venice apartment complex for $20 mil at the top of the market in 2005. It's mostly full of section 8's now (or whatever they call them in Cali).

Sell it and get out. Real estate is peaking and very expensive. Go somewhere sane and live like a king.

Venice hasn't turned. It's even more expensive than 2005.

Ha, ha, no, he's a white. He lives in probably THE SHITTIEST TOWN in California and his house is worth less than $20,000.

You anticipate a crash?

I went to Venice Beach once, about 7 years ago.
Absolute dump. Santa Monica is not far off. The entirety of Los Angeles can really fuck off.
-
Cali will have a huge earthquake one day and fall into the sea.
The wicked shall be cleansed from the earth.

People are fleeing these Blue states to move to Republican areas where they can live in peace. The problem is they move to places like Texas then they vote Democrat hoping for a different result.

Which is why Austin is basically California now.
They are also buying up a lot of cheap land in West Texas.
I can tell you, i've spent a lot of time in Austin over the past 25 years; it's always been weird and liberal, but what you see today is not what it was even 10 years ago. It's starting to feel more like San Francisco.

San Francisco
Hypocrisy from leadership here astounding!

I am glad I got to experience Venice/Marina Del Rey when things were good. some of the best memories of my 20s.
so glad I spend 100% of my time now in Scottsdale, AZ

TACO, I don't know how serious the homeless situation is in Arizona right now ... but if it's not a big concern right now ... it will be soon.
I foresaw this coming about 12+/- years ago when I discovered that a 3 bedroom house within the LA basin was $700,000 and within an area which I would prefer to stay away from.
A similar sized (but brand new) home within a great area within Las Vegas was priced at $300,000. (But we still have too many people living within the underground storm drain channels.)
Even earlier ...... home prices within Hawaii were priced so damn high (partially due to foreign investors) that families would form up HUI's (partnerships) buy a house and live together... sometimes 4 grownups and 8 kids living within a 1,200 square foot, 3 bedroom residence.
Nowadays even that is damn near impossible so squatters squat in parks and beaches and under freeways.
Ala Moana Beach Park is a squatter's beach-front paradise directly across from the exquisite Ala Moana Shopping Center and its multi-million dollar condos.
And Venice Beach has been a homeless location for many more years than this board indicates. I could tell you Venice Beach homeless stories going back at leas 40 years.
It's evident to me that there is NO solution to this US homeless problem and eventually the US of A will resemble Calcutta/Mumbi.
Some kind individuals within the US are doing their best and have been offering basic living accomodations pro gratis in some attempt to alleviate this problem during this pandemic situation.
TACO, Here's a 'home' within your area which just might, possibly, open up its doors to the homeless in AZ if and when this situation gets bad enough. Have you ever seen this place?
PELLIUS .... Has Hawaii been able to offer a solution to this homeless situation?
And are the vast majority of Hawaii home buyers locals or out of state/foreign investors?

Thanks Arnold!
