Under the new restrictions, bars and restaurants can only offer take-out, non-essential shops must close and people will only be able to leave home for a short list of reasons including exercise. Activities ranging from haircuts to foreign holidays must once again be put on hold.
A lot of daft kunts going to be stuck at home crying to their mum for another 30 days.

Quite possibly this has already happened. Many small businesses (mostly restaurants and bars/taverns) are only open right now because the landlord are withholding rent at the moment. Once things are back to "normal" or as close as we can get and rent is required again (even without the additional back rent that was furloughed) a lot of businesses will not recover and instead simply just walk away.
Unless the gov't agrees to either roll out a forgivable loan for small businesses (and not another PPP, but one that actually can go for back rent/utilities/lost revenue) so that small businesses will remain open, or unless the gov't can issue one that is for landlords to recover their back rent and forgive their tenants.... well there isn't much of a future for the small guys.

Also, I read that many big retailers are not going to do their usual Black Friday routine... instead they are mostly doing it online. I know that Best Buy and Walmart have already kicked off their Black Friday starting today with online specials broken up over the month of November.

It’ll probably happen but it’s really about keeping money from getting into the economy too quickly with all of the currency devaluation taking place.
The plan from what I’ve seen is to restrict non essential spending.

In Wales they class baby clothes as non-essential...but alcohol is on sale

Same in New York City, liquor stores remain open. Probably because the state gets a lot of tax revenue from Alcohol sales.

Maybe alcohol in Wales is, like Ireland, an essential.

who wants this?

who wants this?
Big business of course, Amazon has pretty much killed retail, large supermarkets are delivering food
Who needs small business when you can do everything from home
the general population will end up as tax slaves for the next 50 years

Lockdowns do nothing but destroy.
This is people in power pulling levers because they need to pull levers. The collateral damage is apocalyptic.

Yep. It seems to be a trial run for these wannabe dictators.

I'm sure "big business" would but they have no power to order a shutdown.
State and local governments do that and why would the want to crush small business...who provide local employment and pay state and local taxes in many different ways (employee, property, income, etc..)?

UBI for everyone. Its called socialism.
Big business is a financial sector of government.
Amazon is the delivery service where you can spend your allotted sum of money.
Isn't this what you want?

Seems logical - big business is pulverizing the commoners.

Looks like Italy will also have another lockdown, for a month at least.

Umm... dude, they don't exactly do that in the first place....

I’d like to see the racial breakdown of covid cases . Not for any nefarious reasons but more to illustrate that cultural lifestyles play a part in the spread. But they don’t publish those figures. I guess it wouldn’t be fair

I posted stats for New York City months ago. Predominantly black and Hispanic.

My sister has been taking contract jobs working as a Covid ICU nurse for the last several months. Two months in Long Island, 10 weeks in Miami, and now heading to Arizona mid November for a 13 week contract there. I just spent some time in Florida with her, and this is what she and her nurse friend told me. If you have brown skin (black, latino, asian), and you go to the ICU due to Covid, you are going to die there. Every single brown skinned patient she just took care of in Miami died, and most on Long Island. She says there seems to be a racial component to the virus. If you're white, and have comorbidities, there is good chance that you will be going home after your ICU admission. I'm going to guess that she'll be taking care of a lot of latino and native american patients in Arizona, so I'll find out if her previous experience holds up there.

I buy stuff on Amazon and I buy stuff locally...just like pretty much everyone else
The right wing socialism bogeyman is just horseshit that the right uses to try scare the crap out of themselves (meanwhile the red states are more dependent on goverment support than the blue states and everyone loves their social security and medicare)

Case numbers were already dropping before the lockdown. There really wasn't any need for it.
Not gonna complain though. I'll be getting paid to put my feet up.
