Decriminalizing heroine, cocaine and meth. What the fuck is that about? Should be more harsh drug laws not this bullshit.

They've been left wing lunatics for a long time.

Right on. Now close any taxpayer funded rehabilitation programs. Less government restrictions, less government support. 100% freedom. 100% responsibility.

Nice thought but we all know in a year or so they will be calling for higher taxes to fund rehab programs.

A lot of European counties have that same law for decades.....and it works very well

That’s interesting where is cocaine for possession for personal use legal other than Portugal and where can you buy crack legally?

That'll be the mistake, not the legalization.
Ok, it's possible that a lot of humans are incapable of responsible, adult behavior and will mortgage all their tomorrows for a good today. After all, we already have a drug epidemic, an obesity epidemic, drinking, gambling, etc. Indulgence. So perhaps by making lethal indulgences available, we can select for breeding pairs which are inclined to be sensible epicureans, and produce more of the same. The Hog At The Trough disposition which plagues our society and pours over airline seat boundaries could become a thing of the past. I, for one, welcome our new poison peddling overlords.

Oregon fuqed themselves a long time ago

Interesting. Decriminalization is one thing, if they are speaking about not arresting people who are just buying it to use personally. I once read that someone was charged with possessing as little as something like 0.04 grams of cocaine. Basically, 40 milligrams. A quantity that you could probably dust off a $20 bill in Florida in 1980.
It may not have been exactly that quantity, but I remember it being ridiculously low.
If this just prevents drug users from facing drug charges, I don't see an issue. Legalization of marijuana in Canada has been a bit of a mess, but in time, may sort itself out. Decriminalization was in Ontario around 2003 for a period of time, and that seemed to be fine. So far, decriminalization has not been that smooth - but most likely, that is due to ridiculous marijuana regulations.
I'm ok with social justice politicians doing something like this, in the sense that I think it's a valid point to say that people innocent of any actual crime against violence or property are being harmed by these drug laws.
But next, I don't doubt that SJW's in Oregon will demand that purse-snatching become legal.

There won't be police to arrest anyone anyway.

Even small amounts of alcohol cause cancer but people have been drinking boatloads for hundreds of years. This world is a strange place.

Cocaine is a bit of a joke drug nowadays, looked at like weed used to be looked at (gateway, etc).
The 'heroine cut with Fentanyl' issue is on a whole new level of dangerous. I had a good friend (right after high-school) who was an only child, w/ a rich father, and this kid would get Coke off of his fathers limo driver all the time. I did it for that summer, and just got nothing from it, didn't like the jittery high, biting your lip, "upper" type of buzz.
Remember flushing some down the bowl one time when we went away for a weekend (girlfriend and I). Easy to do when it was free. But last time I touched it.
Got the same buzz of strong coffee back then.
I just like THC gummie's these days, and only at night like once a week. Great for pain, sleep, relaxation. Miracle drug.

Natural selection.

It makes me so paranoid that I think that death has already came.

i know somebody that worked in a drug rehab center
he said the most common way people stopped using drugs was by doing jail time for drug use/possession, that was the only thing that made them realize this is no way to live and forced them to make changes

Jail does does absolutely nothing for addiction. Social shaming seems to work a lot better.
People keep coming back to jail over and over because they aren't getting treatment. Thats why we have those mugshots showing how meth addicts destroys faces over many years.
Legalizing the drugs will be a net positive for the society. It will destroy the black market and the senseless gang violence that comes with it. But the DEA ATF and south American drug cartels will all hate it and that's why we won't get it on a national scale.

In small quantities only for personal use. If you are dealing you're still in big trouble. There are no benefits of putting users in jail. Sure they mostly can't continue using while locked up, but once they get out they'll be right back shooting up. Jail isn't rehab.

I would like to hear what the beat cops have to say because from the outside you have to think that arresting the same addicts every few months does absolutely nothing but tax the system and waste court resources. If those people are simply fined, is it not better than the current setup? This change seems to support the notion that arresting addicts doesn't help anyone and wastes resources that could be better spent.
-

Yes. This is exactly right.

Oregon fuqed themselves a long time ago
Which explains why Oregon's influx population continues to grow by leaps and bounds. ::)

Good point. But then, defunding the police isn't going to happen. If it does, it won't last.

Here's something worth considering.
Jul 25, 2019 — Oregon cannabis tax revenue gets higher and higher ... ended on June 30, topping $102 million, a 24.2 percent increase over the $82.2 million collected in 2018

Oregon's non-White population is increasing dramatically. You are correct. That was his point.

well that is what i was told, it makes sense to me
since when do you agree with statistics?

Considering the type of folks moving there.....I would consider that an endorsement

Good point. But then, defunding the police isn't going to happen. If it does, it won't last.
So being a cop there....why would you? No guns, batons or pepper spray.....and make sure not to offend anyone or lose your job and be sued.

Whether or not I concur with statistics depends on their source. It is good practice to check the source for bias and accuracy.

Who are my people? Nobody in I know is rioting or looting in Portland or anywhere else. There are hundreds of millions of liberals in this country, at least a million of the folks in the Portland metro area are liberals, probably more since the population leans to the left. There is 298 thousand registered Democrats in Multnomah county, 64 thousand registered Republicans, 166 thousand Unaffiliated and 20 thousand registered Independents. Most of the population are peace loving and don't support riots or certainly not looting. The rioters and looters who are a small portion of those demonstrating number in the 100's, if that.

Yes. This is exactly right.
You just want to be able to legalize everything including pedophelia you soggy old libqueer.

Mostly homosexuals.

Fuck it, let them die, it's not my responsibility.
-
Laws which proscribe actions affecting no one other than the person doing it are queer things.
The government isn't your daddy. It doesn't exist to make decisions for you, as if you're a child incapable of making your own.
When it's a law supporting the decision someone would have made on their own, such as not using drugs, people promptly miss the point and support the law. Hey, dumbass. Can you not see that it isn't the law itself you're agreeing with? You're agreeing with the government's position that it will decide things for you, and you don't get to decide things for yourself. I'm not on board with that at all.
"The government deciding for you and protecting you from yourself" is going to be the principal point of contention for the next four years. Whether you agree with it is something you should contemplate.

Agree. If a guy wants to drink or drug himself to death that’s his business. Just don’t expect me to pay for it.
-
Fuckin A right.
But because Oregon, "We need to decide what kind of a society we want to live in. We need to support one another through difficult times."
And BAM they're taking your money by force of law. They will decide for you what kind of a society you want to live in.
