Turkey was always on my bodybuilding meal plan along with chicken, beef, eggs, etc. as another variety of protein. But I paid little attention to my side dishes back then. Usually it was rice or pasta. As Thanksgiving approaches once again, I realize I may have been missing out and the collective wisdom of this board could point me in a better direction.
What is a unique Thanksgiving side dish you enjoy (other than the same old mashed potatoes and stuffing)?
I'll go first: Mac and Cheese

I'm boring, most of the time I just care about the turkey (or ham) and stuffing. I do add a decent amount of meat (sausage, bacon, ground meat) to the stuffing though.

Mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, stuffing, with pumpkin pie for desert. My favorite holiday. :P I will be dieting the next 3 days to lose all the weight I will gain back on Thursday. Pure gluttony.

My wife is Italian so the spread she puts out would put a restaurant to shame. Too much to list. Just the liquor is unreal. Two types of beer. Five choices of wine. All the assorted hard liquor. Four or five home made pies for desert. The pre meal is more than people can eat that includes assorted cheeses, assorted Italian meat, shrimp, cold vegetables and dip; I can go on but you get the drift. She makes something called a meat pie for the pre meal. In an amazing crust is bacon with assorted Italian meat inside. Never had it before I knew her and it's amazing. I plan on trying to gain five pounds in one sitting.

Stuffing, real mashed taters with gravy, green beans with bacon, pumpkin/pecan pie, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows melted on top.
Pretty much everything but turkey, it's always too dry. We fried one in peanut oil last year and it was great.
The problem is I'll have leftovers for a week, so i get to gain a few pounds.

Everyone might as well eat as much as they want on Thanksgiving. Your body can only absorb so many calories in a short period, my guess is 5-6,000 max. Sure, you can gain 5-6 pounds from the food, carbs, sodium and water, but it will all pass through in a few days. Worst case scenario you'd add 2 pounds of fat (7,200 calories) and even that is doubtful, most is water weight.

Have you ever tried butter nut squash ravioli? Put it on you list if you haven't. I'm going to take a Thanksgiving edible this year. A first for me. I've got this batch right now (only 9mg's) per gummie but they are better than anything else I've ever tried.
