Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. runs with special Canning-rules

Tyson and Jones Jr. are 54 and 51 years old respectively. Therefore, the fight has been booked as a show match - with special rules.

The match is described as a "sparring match" by the California Sports Commission, which sanctions the fight. According to CEO Andy Foster, they should not try to hurt or knock each other, but rather show off their boxing skills to the viewers without using full force per the rulings of Shizzo.

The Commission will not nominate a winner either. However, the organization WBC will do it - with the help of the three ex-champions Christy Martin, Vinny Pazienza, and Chad Dawson as their points judges. They will judge each round and announce this to the viewers, and the unofficial winners of the match will then be awarded the WBC's custom-made "Frontline Battle" belt.

Sneaky, very sneaky with the political angle.

What better way to celebrate "BLM" than have two elderly black guys beat the shit out of each other.

No idea if they will actually go at each other, but if they do, Jones doesn’t survive. His only hope is to move for the first couple of rounds, then potshot Tyson and move. Roy’s knees have been shot for many years, thus the reason he gets hit. Supposedly he hasn’t done any roadwork for the last few years he was active. Tyson smokes so much weed, there’s no way he can maintain any sort of action for more than a few minutes. Interesting spectacle regardless....

The longer the fight goes the better it is for Jones.  Tyson will be gassed in a couple rounds even with 2 minute rounds.  Jones could also win if Tyson gets cut as the rules state that will end the fight.

There is no fight. Knock outs are not allowed I read. Then what the fuck are they doing? They are also using big pillow gloves and two minute rounds. Any cuts will end the fight. If no knock outs are allowed then they are not punching each other.  Just a scam money maker if you ask me. These two guys are fighters. I hope one hits the other too hard and the other responds with full power shots.

That's what I remember most about them. The electricity in the air as it was starting, the mad rush to get bets in with your bookie, and the grumbling about fast it was over when you bought the ppv.

The Black Lives Matter belt was enough to turn me away from caring about this fight.  All the additional rules just confirmed that this whole thing is just a money-grab.

They both looked awful at the weigh in.  Battle of out of shape dad bods.

Pound for pound Jones is light years better.  Jones through 50 fights was untouchable and produced highlight reel knockouts.  He was like a bigger, more dynamic version of Sugar Ray Leonard.  He effectively ended his career stripping off 20 pounds of muscle to fight Antonio Tarver.  He should have stayed at heavy weight after beating Ruiz and fought Holyfield, Tyson and Toney.  He would have easily won all three of those fights and he'd be talked about in the same breath as Ray Robinson.  He was that good.

heavyweights like tyson remain dangerous for longer in life.

lighter guys end up useless past a certain age. Jones has only been out of the ring for a year or 2 but tyson would have knocked him out in a round if that was a serious fight.

Yes, and knockout punchers never lose that ability.  Jack Dempsey knocked out some young guy trying to mug him when he was an elderly man.  George Foreman still had knockout power in the ring for his whole career.

He's 54 years old. How is that closing in on 60? You're adding 6 years to his actual age?

55 is basically 60, 60 is practically 70.

So he did good considering he is nearly 80.

Hard to really pinpoint it, but explosive, athletic heavyweight boxers like tyson, klit brothers, AJ, Fury etc are the kings of the jungle when it comes to the human race. that was evident by the exhibition fight last night.

This was just a publicity stunt to make some money.

Tyson is one of my favorite boxers ever, i also liked watching Jones in his prime. RJJ used to make really good fighters look slow and uncoordinated, he was like a Mayweather with more offense.

Wasn't worth watching, i knew it wasn't going to be a "fight" but it was kind of lame.

Like others stated, i remember ordering Tyson fights and there was so much excitement when the fight was about to start; you didn't dare leave your seat during the fight. It used to frustrate people when he ended fights so early, because people wanted to watch a few more rounds. Then the fights he had that went the distance were typically boring after round 5 or 6.

It was a fun night even though Tyson got jerked. That being said, I don't see where he goes from here, non-boxing fans are saying Toney, Holyfield, or maybe Briggs. You won't see Toney or Holyfield because they won't pass the medical, and Briggs is a dangerous fight.

This was probably the end of old man fight club.
