Was thinking of getting this for my Coach
Any of you guys like it or maybe a vodka that’s on par with it ?
-
Love johnnie blue.Have a few glasses at casino a few times a week.wonderful stuff. Great gift.
-
Glenfiddich 21 is a way better and less expensive :D
-
Giving Johnny Walker Blue was cool - 25 years ago. Now it’s a gift old men give other old men.
-
It's an overpriced mystery blend...but if the label means something to the recipient go for it.
There are many aged single malts that would be a more thoughtful gift, IMO.
Vodka? Depends on...if this "coach" is straight or not. ;D
-
It's a good gift.
Even if the recipient doesn't care for it, it's cool to have and share with others.
-
Scotch is hard to pick for someone. People are fiercely divided upon single malt or blended when it comes to paying a higher price for them. Vodka would be an easier pick for him if you know he likes it.
Save your money, just give him a reach around.

Gayer than Elton John giving Liberace a bubble bath.

Not bad for a communist.

Liquors are all about marketing and very little about what's actually in the bottle. In fact the bottle and the label are worth a hell of a lot more than what's in it.
I consulted for a distillery in Arizona for a year regarding process technology. All the Whiskeys, Bourbons and Scotches start the same way- from a simple fermentation and distillation process. Then you stick that highly concentrated alcohol in barrels with charred wood OR you add various pieces of wood and a few flavorings to the alcohol in a steel barrel and shake it for a while.
The latter process is the "secret" to the industry btw. The tales of barrels sitting for thirty years or crossing the equator multiple times might apply to a fraction of the brands out there- but most whiskeys can be produced in less than a month by shaking the alcohol in the steel barrels. How do I know? Because I helped the guy at said distillery build such a system- based on what I heard around the industry. He has now gone on and won multiple first prizes and blue ribbons at US trade shows and magazine contests. He gets $200 or more for a fifth of this stuff that took 2 weeks to make.
A lot of wines are now made in similar fashion too.
But if it makes you feel good in the end, who cares how it's made, right?

It’s the thought that counts yes ?

VODKA... TITO!

If you're looking for a good, middle of the road Scotch, consider Oban 18.

The Emperor has no clothes when it comes to Blue. It’s a status symbol thing in that people are embarrassed to say it’s not that good. There are $40 dollar a bottle stuff that is much better. I had a bottle of blue and after drinking some it stayed in my liquor cabinet untouched. My son about eight years ago had a party and every twenty something kid wanted to try it. Instead of sipping it like a man they all poured a shot and gulped it like it was poison in a half a second. One wanted to mix it with coke. F’en kids.

What about the commisions? I thought they're not allowing companies do so and they regulate the production. For example, a bourbon can only be named so if they mature it for two years and a scotch it should be for 3years etc... corruption?

Some scientists have discovered how to add 12 years worth of age in months to whiskey. I'm sure the scotts will be pissed. Apparently these guys fooled a lot of people at some whiskey tastings who thought they were really having 12+ year old whiskeys.

Any of you fine, gay gentlemen tried the Johnnie Walker King George V?
:). Never even heard of it. Talk son talk!

Johnny Walker Blue is good but hardly worth what they ask.
It's typically seen in product placement shots in TV shows about high rollers.
It's a blended Scotch that compares with other $40-$50 Scotches.
They sell it to social climbers for $170.

It's pretty smooth as far as scotch goes, at least in my experience.
But, as said before, it's still an nice gesture to get for someone.
And it's cool to serve if you have it.
Not everyone obsesses over the nuances of everything and some just appreciate things at face value.

Anyone seen a documentary called Sour Grapes?
Experts are fooled by a wine counterfeiter.
