President Trump appeared to threaten to veto the COVID-19 stimulus package that Congress passed almost 24 hours earlier, telling lawmakers to boost checks for Americans to $2,000 as well as "get rid of wasteful and unnecessary items" in the spending bill
Trump said "throughout the summer, Democrats cruelly blocked COVID relief legislation in an effort to advance their extreme left wing agenda and influence the election..."
"it's taken forever" to get a package and the bill passed "is much different than anticipated."
"It really is a disgrace," he added.
Then reeled off a list of disgusting 'pork' (read the details here) that has been piled into this record-breaking 5,593 page bill.
As Axios notes, many of the items Trump listed, such as foreign aid, which were not related to COVID-19 are not part of the coronavirus relief package. These form part of the government funding bill, which was passed alongside the coronavirus relief package.

He should.
We are giving millions to Pakistan for gender studies. ::)
$600 is a slap in the face.
Cut all the pork and give people $2-3k at a minimum.

Do you not look at your expenses before spending more money? If you don't have enough to fund government, where is the money going to come from for Covid relief? You got it. It will come out of taxpayers pockets whether now or later when the debt has to be paid.
This is not a concept Trump understands. Historically, he's over spent and made bad investments then filed bankruptcy to insure he would never have to pay for his mistakes, leaving that burden to those who were stupid enough to extend credit to him.
I find it difficult to understand how any conservative person could abide such a plan. I thought it was us liberals who endorsed spending money the government doesn't have.
-
Trump is for the people, last President in our lifetime who is or will be. Sleepy Joe is a crooked old senile puppet

Trump is going to veto the bill because of the money that is being spent. Did you read the post?

Agreed. That is why they all hate him in Washington.

Baffling lack of understanding at that age.

Good man. The bill sucks.
Do not sign that shit.

IMO, these are the important points - especially the second one.

Really? Can you tell us who all of them are in Washington (D.C.) who hate Biden?

What`s there to like about Biden?

I really starting to fucking dislike you old bastard you are vile
-
As much as it hurts me to say it because people need that money, he should block it till they cut the pork. Here is some of the pork in there -
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EpzaH50XIAgssu_?format=jpg&name=900x900).
Also they are proposing to give illegal aliens up to $1800 in covid relief? They are fucking illegals.
-
What I want to know is what is the underlying agenda behind this new COVID & government funding bill?
Again, much like the first stimulus package, it's not our tax dollars being used to fund these "bills" into existence. Once again the Federal Reserve is monetizing our debt by buying US bonds and infusing newly printed money into the already inflated circulation of dollars.
The feds agree to print more money, placing the US in deeper debt, yet somehow this new bill directs 100's of millions of dollars to foreign aid. Why is the USA trying to solve the world's problems on credit? Seems like a strange way to leverage debt, when living through such uncertain times. What is the USA looking to gain in return from these foreign entities? Better said, how many in congress are in bed with foreign interest groups?
Obviously something doesn't add up and Trump MADE a great choice by rejecting this atrocity. Wonder whether a new bill will be drafted before Xmas, highly doubt it.

That’s fucked, foreign countries should get nothing.

You are as lost as the day you sold your soul

I know your specialty is cock, but you are aware he filed chapter 11 bankruptcy and with that you end up paying back almost all of your debt still correct?
And if the shareholders had enough ownership to be responsible for a majority of that debt, then that makes them bad at business no?
Though I also disagree with a stimulus as I disagreed with the first. Trump sold us out to bail out the big businesses and fill their pockets as barack did and joe will continue to do.
-
There should be a law stating that until unemployment in the US is below 3%, no aid to foreign countries will be given.
Spend US money on US first.
-
Really? Can you tell us who all of them are in Washington (D.C.) who hate Biden?
He's talking about Trump.
-
Here's the correct information. Trump wants $2000 a person. Pelosi is embarrassed now by the $600 and blames Trump for that figure. She now says Democrats will instantly vote for the $2000.
What she won't address in the COVID bill is all the outrageous spending for domestic non related covid pork and for foreign countries for things that are not remotely related to COVID. Sure sounds like all of congress put their connection in the bill for money so they can get a kick back. This bill should be no longer than ten pages instead of being over 6000. Not one member of congress from either party has read it. They all know what spending they added though.
One congress man put in ten million for gender studies in Pakistan. In Pakistan if a man puts on a dress they are killed. We all know that money is going to line the leaders of Pakistan's pockets after the kick back to an off shore bank account that won't cooperate with America.
They could slash the spending of this bill in half if the money hand out was for only covid related things.
-
I wish we had single issue bills. If all of these things like foreign aid were separate bills they would never get passed. The Covid relief bill should be for citizens only.
-
He's talking about Trump.
Thanks. You think people would know this who have been here for the past 4 years.

Depends on how you define almost all of the debt. Filing for Chapter 11 reorganization doesn’t wipe the slate clean for everyone. When a business fails or goes bankrupt, it can leave employees and contractors stranded without receiving payment.
When the Trump Shuttle faltered in 1990, the company laid off 100 employees. In 1991, when the deal with Northwest failed, 160 union employees found themselves fighting to attain their earned pay and benefits.
When the three Trump-owned casinos — Trump Taj Mahal, Trump Marina and Trump Plaza — went belly up in 2004, many workers lost their retirement savings. The Trump company had pushed employees to accept company stock in lieu of other retirement savings. When the stock crashed in the wake of the bankruptcy, 400 employees lost US$2 million.
In addition, Trump and his company have also faced dozens of lawsuits for failing to pay contractors and employees for their work.

Okay....how many people has Joe Biden legally employed in private sector business?

Okay....how many people has Joe Biden legally employed in private sector business?
I'll take the bait. But, I have no idea what the answer is and why it has any bearing on Trump shortchanging his employees and the contractors he hired. Just as it would not be entirely relevant to this conversation if I asked you how many times has Biden filed bankruptcy....which by the way is zero times.

This is why central banks will be splitting out basal income (which will be COVID relief) and forming it as part of their responsibility under the money supply vs the politicians stimulus packages.
A global pandemic where 98% of us are being belted and at huge risk to losing everything and the politicians are playing games. It’s utterly insane.
-
I think people should get off their ass and work for money and exchange it with others (reciprocate)
Not beg or create reasons why they can’t ( germs , fear, discrimination ect ect ect
How would they get the free stuff if everyone just did nothing like they choose ?

Right. But, maybe a person really has to be there to fully appreciate what it's like to not know where your next meal is coming from or if you'll still have a roof over your head when you get home from a long day looking for a job. Thankfully, I am not speaking from experience but from a feeling of just a little empathy for those far less fortunate than I am.
Although, there was that time when I was eighteen and found myself with only .25 in my pocket and no immediate prospects of getting myself out of the situation I'd put myself in. I'd made a promise not to ever ask my mom or stepdad for help because having only recently moved out, it would be far too humiliating. I'd like to report that some magical job materialized and I bailed myself out...like in the movies. Such was not the case. I used the 25 cents to call my rich aunt and ask for a loan. She wired me some "stop gap" money to get me by for a short while. A few days later, I landed a job and eventually was able to pay my aunt back.
This was in the early 1960's. There was no pandemic and the economy was pretty good. What's going on right now makes being down and out much more prevalent and also makes harder for those who are to recover. In the 60's a noticeable percentage of the population in this country wasn't living in cardboard boxes and jerry-rigged tents alongside the freeways.
-
Okay....how many people has Joe Biden legally employed in private sector business?
LOL @ the thought of The Duke of Dementia employing people. ;D

Tell me about it. Great post. Honestly, during the first three months of this hyped pandemic, I really thought this may be a global issue akin to being hit by aliens, that may actually unite people into working for common interests. Not that I'm in any way idealistic, but I just thought it would be nice if that happened. Mainly because I thought this was a pandemic, and not a political issue.
But for that to happen, COVID would have to be a REAL threat. And a 99.7% survival rate for people under 70 is not a real threat. This is a real virus that has been massively exploited for political gain, and to make the super rich even richer, in a way that I've never seen before. In Canada, it looks like Indigo will go bankrupt, because I'm pretty sure they will be shut down starting on December 26th or 27th, along with all other "non-essential" businesses. Meanwhile, Indigo is a pretty big company - but it seems to me like they will get bought up and absorbed into Amazon. It's looking like only the absolute wealthiest of the wealthy corporations are getting richer, and the small and medium enterprise sector is being gutted, along with even some of the smaller corporations taking major losses.

politicians have chosen the path to lock things down and therefore are responsible for ensuring the welfare as a result of their actions.
Basal income is adjusted over a period of time where it can be balanced out against production from paid jobs. There will be different forms of doing this of which one will be a ‘work subsidy’ for certain industries where they say to employers, if you hire someone for 5 days a week, we will pay for 2 of those days. This is how you keep production intact.

So what you’re saying is people who suckle at the teat of government their entire life, like you, really have zero credibility in criticizing people who are out in the working world running businesses and employing people.
Fuck off you disgusting, lonely, sad old know-it-all queer...your white trash family despise you.

If Trump genuinely wanted a 2k check for Covid relief then why didn't he lift a finger during negotiations to make that happen.
He did this because he knew the GOP wouldn't go for it (they just voted against it)
It was nothing more than a cynical move to make his own party look bad (he's pissed at them because they wouldn't support his coup).
He doesn't give a rats ass about helping anyone ...most certainly anyone suffering due to Covid or the shutdown.
Hell, he didn't even bother hiding the fact that he hated having to do rallies in little shit hole towns. He actually stood in front of a microphone and told people that.
He's nothing more than a whiny little crybaby TRAITOR

President Donald Trump (the greatest President in the history of the United States) has made Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat morons look like absolute idiots (which they are) over how they used the COVID relief as nothing more than a lame duck political ploy.
And HAIRPLUGS BIDEN isn’t really sure what COVID is, but he wants him and Hunter to get their usual 20% cut.
Pelosi would fall for anything as long as she thinks she can blame President Donald Trump (the greatest President in the history of the United States) in some senile way. Not even a spoiled 5 year old brat would make a spectacle out of trying to tear up the SOTU speech...but senile old Nancy, leader of the liars and hypocrites, couldn’t help herself!

Libatards sending billions of $$ to foreign countries, but only a small portion to their own citizens and also illegals...way to go ::)
-
So you think the covid bill that was proposed was a good option for citizens of America?
It could be better but if Trump genuinely wanted to give Americans 2k he would have been involved in the negotiations or at the very least made sure Mnuchin was pushing for that.
THE TRAITOR never mentioned it the entire time negotiations were going on
He only did this to BLOW UP the legislation knowing full well that the GOP would never go along with 2k
And that is exactly what just happened so now EVERYONE IS SCREWED
That's exactly what the vindictive little crybaby wanted.
He's basically burning down the house as he leaves town

I told you guys that they just print money when they need it. America would be a debt collector's dream.
And when we can't pay it back.....We go to war!

Listen Trump is who he has always been, so getting upset because he’s telling another “lie” when he’s going to be gone in a few weeks really shows how much space he has in your head.... Because if you think an economic stimulus bill of $600 a person while billions were being giving away to other nations (and it would also become a felony to illegally stream movies) was helping America in the midst of the pandemic then you are completely blinded to reality.
Call out Trump and Republicans but don’t act like the Left and Democrats are above reproach.

You are correct
That’s the thing about these guys siding with one party, they can do no wrong
-
I agree the government wastes our money (at least those of us who pay taxes). They've done it since I can remember. Legislators historically fight for pork that will make their voters happy whether it makes financial sense or not. there are many military bases open this very day that are unnecessary but Senators fight for their continued existence because of the jobs and income they provide. So there is no argument in my view that our government on both sides are guilty of wasting our money.
I also know that Trump confused the Covid Relief package with the Omnibus annual budget. I believe he doesn't know the difference just as I believe many here don't. It's unfortunate they attached the Covid Relief to the regular budget as it causes confusion for many.
I question many of the spending items in the Omnibus budget as well. But I also recognize I don't know or have access to all the information. Why are we sending 100 million to Cambodia for example? What's the original reason? What is the unintended consequences if we stop? Those are questions that need to be asked and answered.
Addressing Trumps 11th hour announcement. He's a twat, he's always been a twat. The Democrats wanted 2000 from the start. They ended up at $600 because that's the best they could get from the Republicans. Trumps representatives were at the table the entire time. They should spoken up then. But then Trump wouldn't get to play hero. So now he's playing golf while this awaits his action. Jerk move all around.
Trump has been President 4 years.. He had the house and senate in the beginning. All these payments he has been complaining about have been going on for years. Why NOW is he so concerned?
-

Exactly.
Even pre-Covid we had no business funding all these shithole countries. That's not our job. I'd like to see where this money really goes. Kickbacks galore and making the governments overseas wealthy while they still treat their citizens like trash.
That's how i feel about our government these days, they do not put us first, they haven't in decades. Take those billions and distribute to needy families and businesses. We need better schools, not gender studies in Pakistan. ::)
-
He should.
We are giving millions to Pakistan for gender studies. ::)

I have to differ. Gifting me 40% of an employee's wage right now, under the current rules, still wouldn't inspire me to hire. And who's kidding whom, that money would come with even more rules. Never underestimate human capacity to be a lazy, unproductive liability. Or the government's willingness to regulate industry into the grave.
The solution to labour relations laws which disincentivise employers and protect workers into unemployment isn't yet more government involvement in the form of "Government Tit."
The solution is to stop intruding on agreements which have nothing to do with them. I'll pay you in accordance with what you accomplish. You'll receive enough to stick around or you'll walk.
We'll settle on a figure which reflects the market value of your labour without some guy standing over us dictating what agreements we're permitted to make between us. Is he in the drywall business? Then how the fuck would he know what a drywaller's labourer is worth on day 1, day 30, or day 365? I can't think of any instance where investing an uninformed person with authority over experts would be a good idea.
Government intervention which artificially varies the value of goods or labour from true market value hinders commerce on aggregate and impinges on individual agency in particular. Don't harm with the left and then help with the right. Just get out of the damn way.
Apparently, I've turned into Peter Schiff.

I share all of your objections, but the $900B COVID relief is not going to Pakistan, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, etc. They’re getting funds from the $1.4T that’s part of the combined 5,500-page spending bill.
So, yeah, why the hell are we spending a dime on other nations while we’re stuck in this covid quagmire?
COVID stimulus should be clean and separate from funding the Federal Gov't.

Dems can approve $2000 in a little over 3 weeks. If they really "wanted" to make that happen they wouldnt have settled for $600 this far into the pandemic. This is political posturing and pandering.
I agree we dont know what will happen if we dont send $100 million to Cambodia but we will have a pretty good idea of what will happen if our economy collapses and people are evicted from their homes, but let's walk as close to the edge as possible right?
Again why get upset over what Trump is doing over his last few weeks, hes always been vindictive let's not act like this is a big surprise. The Dems will pass this in a month. Cambodia will be fine without the money, because up until this point the American the government has treated it's own people this way.
Dude you were a civil servant, did the police force shut down when budget cuts were implemented? Was your pension affected? Did you receive fewer bullets or were you limited on the amount of mileage you could drive? Or were people with high salaries fired and new hires brought in?
I can tell you what didnt happen, the world didnt end. Cambodia will be fine.

Why the $1.3 billion to Egypt? Which Big Ramy fan tried to pass this bill?
-
I keep hearing this "pork" nonsense. What the hell are you guys talking about?
Haven't you heard? Pigs are infecting people with Covid. (Yeah, this is kind of lame).

This is so spot on. That's why we shouldn't even have a minimum wage. A transaction should only be between the buyer and seller, whether it selling or buying shoes or labor.
When you have a third party with zero expertise and bears none of the consequences of the transaction deciding how it should be conducted it's never a good thing or make the transaction more productive, economic, or efficient.

Normally conservatives are frugal but these are extraordinary times.....Trump is flexible, not bound to any ideology and I like that

China should be made to pay compensation.
Their disinformation and lies in the earlier stages led to COVID spreading even more rapidly across borders.

I wish I could believe this is about Trump being flexible. The House and the Senate had reached a deal after haggling for far too long. Trump said he'll veto the bill. Now it's back in negotiations....back to square one. Seems more like Trump is creating chaos as usual.
Here's a timeline of what's been going on with the second stimulus check
July 2020 - Senate Republicans and House Democrats have issued competing bills on a possible second stimulus check for Americans.
July 15, 2020 The HEALS Act is the Senate Republican proposal. It has a $1 trillion price tag that also offers another round of $1,200 payments as well as $500 for child and adult dependents alike. It also reduces the amount of additional unemployment Americans would receive from $600 to $200.
August 202 -Why there’s still hope for second $1,200 stimulus checks despite stalled congressional talks.
September 4, 2020 - "Now, we have $300 billion in a—an account that we didn't use—$300 billion. I would be willing to release it, subject to Congress, and use that as stimulus money, and it would go right to the American people. So we have $300 billion sitting in an account that we didn't need because things are going so well with the economy," Trump said during a press conference at the White House.
September 20 - Democratic Senator Catherine Cortez Masto called the bill an "insult to the American people" and said it lacked "critical funding" to individuals, medical facilities and state and local governments.
October 2020 - Donald Trump says stimulus relief negotiations over until after he wins the November 3rd election.
October 2020 - trump said he was ready to sign a "standalone bill" authorizing distribution of direct stimulus ($1,200) payments to individuals "immediately."
Dec 16, 2020- The likelihood of another payment being approved before the end of the year grows dimmer by the day. Instead, it's more likely that a second stimulus check would arrive in early 2021, despite a chorus of voices that would prefer to include a payment for $600 or $1,200.
Dec 24, 2020 - Trump is delaying the bill and asking Congress to raise the second stimulus check up to $2,000. Payments will not be sent out until the bill gets signed into law.
Dec 25, 2020 - The fate of the $900 billion economic relief package hangs in the balance after House Republicans blocked Democrats from raising stimulus payments for millions of Americans from $600 to $2,000.
Dec 25, 2020 - The second stimulus check payments are in turmoil once again.
