Title: Martin Kove Tells a Story About Pat Morita.
Post by: Matt on January 12, 2021, 03:36:29 PM
Curious to get some thoughts from any Getbiggers on this.  Has any watched seasons two or three of Cobra Kai?  If so, is it worth watching?:

I watched it all. It is good but like a little silly.Johnny is great throughout but Danny is just horrible. I usually just watch horror movies so it was a nice break to watch something a little silly for once.Anyways worth the watch I say.

I watched the first 3-4 episodes and stopped.

Didn't see what the big deal is.

Johnny is great in it in all seasons and the new characters aren't bad.  First couple seasons were very good, season 3 got a little corny but I still enjoyed it.

I was curious to get the opinion of a 6'5" hoss on this one, so thank you for that, Hulkotron.

Next question:

Martin Kove looks kind of young in that podcast.  Do you have any thoughts on that?  I remember him from Last House on the Left - that was from 1972, and he was 25 then.  He'll be 74 this year, and I find that he looks rather young for this age.

It's fluff but fun. It's not Shakespeare. It helps if you liked the original movie. The star of the show is Johnny.  Great actor and great character on the show. He is the real Karate kid.  The series really respects the movie going back to the original characters. The fight scenes are ridiculous.  The choreographer should be fired. No concept of how to make real fight scenes.

Real fights are over in 10 seconds.  This is entertainment and its great.  The school fight scene in Season 2 was hilarious as was the ending fight scene in 3 in the house w the Chistmas music in the background

The real question is did Daniel tap that finely aged piece of Asian kama sutra ass when he went back to Japan.

Not to be a spoilsport but it felt like they were running on fumes after just a few episodes. Point blank 80s commentary on modern times is biting and fun, but how many times is it biting and fun? Revisiting the films is fun but, again, it's a limited resource.

Just don't expect groundbreaking excellence. It's fun if you're a child of the 80s and grew up with the films. It's certainly not a disaster and didn't shit on the films. It would struggle to stand alone without them propping it up, however.

Maccio's acting is amazing. He has managed zero improvement in 30+ years. If anything, he's even more implausible now in a gi than he was, and his bamboo flute kata hokum is guaranteed to make even the hardest core Karate Kid fanatic embarrassed for everyone in the room eduring it, motionless, with perfect, implacable zen, never daring to be the first to proclaim how painfully lame it is. If you were a marine in the pacific theater, and you got captured, this is what those dirty japs would make you watch. Ralph bamboo flute Macchio 'acting' japanesely. There's nothing quite like it and everyone involved should have known better.

Johnny, on the other hand, nails his role as the 80s jock who never evolved and finds himself an old fish in new waters. He gets a fair few zingers from the writers and gives them black belt delivery. Dude's solid. You can't help but like the character and his performance is damn good.

I quit after 2 seasons on YouTube since season 3 was only on Netflix. I've already experienced the programming on offer from their in-your-face white hating castratrix agenda here in Aus, so I'm not giving them any of my dollars. Johnny damn sure wouldn't either.

Billy Zabka/Johnny is the best thing with the entire show! (beside all the nostalgia) (No Promo)

Curious if anyone here thinks he had work done?

I met jenny McCarthy back in 97 at a mall when she was doing all those candy shoe ads, super nice and cute in person. I was a teen back then and asked for her autograph, which she said yes  ;D

At first I was annoyed with her anti-vax views, but with the rushed COVID vaccine, I'm glad she was an originator in that.

I found it interesting that she essentially stated that her twat was getting wet in the opening of that video above.

Trust your eyes

When I watched the video at first, I didn't notice. Then I read some comments, and someone said Martin had work done, and the more he watches the video, the more he sees it. Then I noticed what he mentioned, which was "classic duck lips", and I also noticed he's had Botox to cover up the wrinkles on his forehead.

And now I can't un-see it, lol.

Makes me wonder if he had work done for the Karate Kid movies. He was 37 to 42 during the first three, and I thought he looked young for over 40, in the third one [I think].

It makes me wonder if these stars have been getting work done since the 1980's. I mean...how much work must a person need to get before abuse starts showing up?

I remember Madonna on a magazine cover in 2002 looking much younger. Then she was in a COVID PSA in a petal bath in her mansion last year, and you could see she had mounds of work.

Maybe the moral of the story is to get moderate work done at most until 45 or 50 or so, then accept natural aging. It would hit you like a truck, maybe surprise some people who know you, then you would naturally for your age onward. Whereas Madonna looks plastic.

On this topic, earlier this month, Dustin Diamond was diagnosed with cancer. I did a search on YouTube about it, and there was a thumbnail with him and Mario Lopez, and I must say - Mario had the classic duck lips too.

Again, I think there is a point where one should quit. Mario will be 48 towards the end of this year. He had a great run. It's time to accept natural aging for him, I would say.
