We’ve all seen this. After about 35 years old, gurus start announcing their age on social media with each passing year, and they will also sometimes state they’re in the best shape of their life well past their physical prime. For example, John Meadows started calling himself an old man after just 35. Then you’ll see the typical posts like, “Not bad for a 35/40/45/50 year old!”
Why are they obsessed with this? How is a 35-year-old-man old?

Teens and young adults make up the majority of social media users. To a 17 year old a 35 year old man is more than twice their age (so he is old relatively speaking).

This. Plus, most people judge themselves against their youth, when they were supposedly in their prime. So it's a validation that they aren't just breaking down into uselessness.

Most guys unless they are lazy slobs can have 90% percent of their strength, endurance, looks and cardio ability till around 55. The first thing to go is power. That's sprinting, jumping and power cleaning type lift ability. After 55 seems to be the rough year when you really notice looking through training journals and running ledgers that you can't do what you use to do. Get close to 65 and it humbles you that you're getting old.
In my youth I could string together 5 something miles running and I was a sprinter and not a distance runner. For guys who are not runners for context set your treadmill for 11 mph and run a couple of miles. Every back day I would use 405lbs for my last set of deadlifts and 225lbs for my last set of power cleans. I completely acknowledge these things aren't a big deal but just to say I wasn't a slug training for a fitness workout.
As you age you have to constantly find ways to push your body without damaging it. I have been training hard since I was a teenager. If only I knew that joint problems would be a thing in my 60's I would have made a lot of changes in how I trained. Just one example that worked for me. The decline press is my shoulder's friend now for pec work. One last one is the barbell squat is out but I'm getting better results from the leg press, machine squats and dumbbell squats without back aggravation.
I remember when I was 40 I wanted credit for working out hard at that "advanced" age. Now I see that is a prime time age. Maybe not for an elite athlete but for a gym rat it certainly is.

im 41 and over the past 5 years ive been in some my overall best shape ever..... strength isnt as consistent though over the last couple years... gotta be a little more careful on the joints as well.

It would take a book. Just a few off the top of my head with these bro advices. Drop the bench press. Use dumbbells. Don't think the squat is mandatory. The decline is your shoulders friend. Never do chest flies. Use a full range of motion even if it means less weight. It's all about stimulating the muscle and not showing off how much you can lift. Never do the pouring pitcher motion doing dumbbell delt laterals. Keep your thumbs up. Do tricep work with precision and higher weights. If any exercise hurts, dump it and never look back. Always include cardio exercise. If you think you can skip it for decades then pick it up you will be in for a world of hurt when you go for a run. Don't grind your joints to dust doing show off stuff like putting a million pounds on a leg press then barely bending your knees. Stay away from steroids for so many reasons but a good one is that it increases your strength faster than your joints can take. You can get away with it when your young but rapidly increasing your strength in a three month cycle can be hard on the joints. Work on flexibility especially for your shoulders. Body weight exercises are not beginner exercises and they compliment the most advanced routines. Be wary of taking advice from drug users. Ask them to give you advice when they are truly clean for four months. Willing to be you won't want their advice because they will look like crap.

It's just marketing. Targeting a certain crowd or group.
My Dads almost 70 and has more stamina than i do for general labor.
He can hike 5 miles like it's nothing, snow ski for 6-8 hours a day and almost out work me at snow shoveling.
When you stay active your entire life and come from a family of cotton farmers it's just normal.
My Mom ran 3 marathons in her early 60's.
Most American's are lazy fucks who sit around on their asses all day.
Don't be like that, stay active. Don't have to lift weights, just do some form of physical labor daily.

No. I'm just surprised to see someone under 30 (that isnt Flintstones) that has been a member here for so long.

I’m still a natural, but I still feel my best gains are from basic strength movements like the bench press and deadlifts, my long legs make squats tough so I prefer to use the leg press. Of course I use good form on these lifts to negate any possible injuries but I never saw good results from these really lightweight “pump” routines. I will say though most of my sets are 5-15 reps depending on the movement and body part. I never ever go heavy on my shoulders. As for cardio I just work fast in the gym, and in the spring/summer I’ll walk or bike a few miles, I keep a good 10% bf all year round.

Are you saying you regularly ran five miles in ~27 minutes on sprint training? That's extraordinarily impressive and unusual if so. Most people would have to train pretty long and hard on endurance running-type training to have that kind of fitness, if they could do it at all.

I'll be 40 in December, and I don't feel any decline in gym workouts. I believe strength is the last thing to leave an athlete.
I do think I can hit a 365 bench this year at 175...IF the gyms f*cking open here.
My only concern is I feel I am somewhat more prone to injury, and will need more time warming up, to hit my max lifts.
I also feel that I require slightly more time to recover.
As oldtimer1 said, I think 40 may well be a gym rat's prime.

Finish your education... don’t waste your money on fluff; save and invest; buy real estate on the dips to live in or rental property. Pair up with a companion who does these things. One day you will wake up at 40, 50, or 60 and either have a lot to show for your choices... or you’ll be living with regret... perhaps renting a room somewhere... and wondering why life didn’t turn out the way you had hoped. A little discipline goes a very long way.

There was a big guy at my gym who caught my eye a few years back. Eventually we became friendly... at the time he was about 47. Turns out he rents a room in a house with five guys and complained to me all the time about the noise, the pets, the lack of privacy, guys eating his food in the shared fridge, blah blah blah. I told him he needed to make a plan to move to a better venue and that when he was ready I would help him on moving day. Many months later he took me up on my offer. The day I helped him move, I learned he was moving from a house shared with five guys into a house shared with four guys. Progress? Barely. But with no real skills or career it was the best he could do. :'(
