With no actual footage, these fights couldn't have lasted more than 60 secs. Humans just don't have the reflexes. You probably had a better chance vs the animals if you have a sword or spear.

This is the grain of salt to take some of those recreations of what Roman Emperors actually looked like based on their statues, at least as far as former VP Calhoun and his bust goes.
