How many Nattys that you know of squat over 500 lbs? Just curious. Be honest.
-
I was 15 and in the powerlifting nationals when I hit 457-2 out of 3 white lights. Same contest I did a 473.25 dead, in which I slipped a disc which interrupted my squatting for 6 years. Now I am on the road back and recently hit 405 for 6 good reps. 500 is the next goal.

Geez...15? Holy S**t. Props to your comeback bro.....

Thanks, it kind of sucks to say that you were the strongest you ever were when you were 15-18 or so. But on the other hand, I kid you not, I LIVED for bodybuilding and Arnold and Pumping Iron back in those days. I would watch pumping iron 2-3x daily sometimes, and almost always at least once. I got up to a bulky 255lbs when I was 18 or so and hit 335 on the flat bench for an easy 6,as I recall, but that is soooooo far from where I am at right now, it's not even funny. I'm 23 now and giving bodybuilding a real try again( i never stopped, but for a while, my head wasn't nearly as in the game as it was back then-although, still more in the game than the average guy).

at 5'7 190 i squat on leg day at least 405 for 5-8 depends on energy and that could be with plates under feet, close stance or normal shoulder width apart.
-
Well remember, smith squats or mach squats dont count. And none of this halfway stuff.
Yesterday i loaded 405 and did 8 full reps. Ass to heels. The freakin bar was bending it was awesome. These are not powerlifter squats where the bar rests behind traps. Up on traps and head level. I am around 250lbs tho so its not as impressive as the teen guy. Props to him.
-
I was regularly squatting over 500 for 4-8 reps(parallel) before I started having issues with my knee(tendinitis). Its gotten to the point that I'm laying off quads fo a while. I've done 405 for 12, 500 for 8, and 530 for 4.

well props to you, because i have NEVER squatted 405, ass to heels. My squats are almost always very 'powerlifterish'...no quite the good morning that Fred Hatfield calls a squat, but definitely not the ass to heels bodybuilders squat either.

You know, for the decen leg devleopment i have, i dont squat as much as I look i can squat.
If I start on swuats, warm up, then first set 225x10, second set 275/8, third set 315/6-8 and fourth set ill die with 405 for 3-4 hard reps..
Pisses me off, bc id like to get 6-8 with 405...oh well..just not a strong squatter..and i go all the way down too..

Derik Farnsworth is said to have squatted over 800 pounds for reps...Lifetime natural, he wife stated many times that Derik has never even touched creatine or glutamine ect...All at a weight well below 190 pounds...Crazy strong...

Not that incredible a feat for a natty. Rare and impressive, but not impossible. I was squatting 405 for 10 when I was 20. The heaviest I've squatted was 545 for 2 at 5'6" and about 175 pounds when I was about 25. I wouldn't even think about trying that now.

hahahahaha, this is by far the funniest thing i've ever heard on here, 405 and the bar was bending??? where did you get the bar, Sears?

When you come off the bottom it bounces. Youd know if you ever worked legs before. ::)

slower on the negatives, boss.
-
^ LOL, that's what I was thinking.
-
i hate squats but im 315 for 3-4 reps ass to the ground. pathetic, i weigh about 190-195. although im lucky and just have naturally big legs, i can however hit 8 plates per side on the leg press for 2 reps. still not that great
-
I know how you feel man. It's hard to really push yourself with legs when you're happy with how they look.

Dumbass.

i couldnt have put it any better bnallz deep, i guess the only reason ireally do wm is so i dont get called a pussy and for the extra test release, but i have almost 26 inch thighs and a notch under 17 inch calves, but i train calves hard every other day, its my upper body that needs the most work, i cant get my arms or chest any bigger. arms are stuck at 16
-
Nothing is ever "stuck". There is always a way.
-
well then my growth has slowed for the moment but i plan on doing a power routine and really bulking up this fall, not gonna worry to much about body fat, however im gonna try to keep it as low as possible. at 19 id say im normal but id like to be much bigger. only supps i take is protein and a multi

500 for reps now...565 for a single...
i thought 600-700 lbs was huge for a natural...not the 500's
maybe it's a height/weight thing..
-
500 is a lot in my book, that is fo sho.
-
is it impossible to think a natural could leg press 1500+lbs?
i hit a grand full reps this week...partials i got 1750...but touching my ass put a whole new perspective on it.

How much does the sled weight?
-
I was told not to count the sled

as a freshman in highschool, at age 14, i did 455 in a powerlifting meet. it was the only one i ever did, as i moved soon after to a school with no power lifting team. sicne then, i've squatted over 600, completely natural.
right now i'm not really training due to a shoulder injury, but i'd say that at my current weight of about 200 at 5'10" i could still probably max around 5 plates.
-
There is a world of difference when you start going deep. I can barely walk this week from squatting deep for the first time. I'm like an old man. The guys that I trained with that were not going all the way down (they went to parallel), they are barely sore and have not squatted before.
The other guy I made go deep is an invalid at the moment too.
I don't want to kill my knees though so is strapping a good idea?
-
ya i feel ya, when i go squat i always go deep as possible, it limits how much weight i can do but i feel it way more, i like to do 2 warm up sets then 4 sets of 4-6, i get cramps and can barly walk for at least 4 days after. so i usualy do legs on mon

If Derik squats 700 lbs for a single, he's extremely strong.
And no, he doesn't squat 800 lbs for reps.
How do I know?
Because I am guessing that Derik Farnsworth isn't the greatest squatter who ever walked this planet. And not even such a person could do it.

Personally for me it would mean more to ask "how many natties squat over 2.5 times their bodyweight and are not shorter than an oak tree stump." And, "Was the powerlifting certified, Platz style, or the style of that dooshbag at the gym who stacked 5 plates on each side and went down 3 inches while screaming like the half ton man on a diet of bean burritos and olestra?"
-
Squats are a shitty test of strength. The bench and deadlift are far superior.
-
When I was 17 I squated 485 for 2 good reps. I tried 505 but failed twice in getting the weight back up.
I benched 350 for 5 reps but failed again on 390. I didn't try any other weight. I wasn't really too worried about how much I benched, squated or lifted since I was bodybuilding, not powerlifting. Those lift was just too see how much I could do.
I've stopped for 5 years (university got in the way) but recently started the very long road back. Currently I can squat around 390-400 and bench about 280. a Very long way off to what I once could do, but I'm getting back there again and this time it's for life!!
-
Hey Tex, didn't you run a cycle? Not talking shit just curious brother.
-
yes i did...i ran a cycle for about 2 and a half months of 500mg of test a week. Want to know what i've found out? Unless you're gonna use it every so often or are gonna take stronger compounds to really benefit from it it's a waste of money....training like you mean it and eating like a gorilla give you the same results.
on a side note..i didn't start squatting til may which was about 3 months after my last shot...
-
;)
-
I could never squat 500 with my back the way it is..I think my spine would explode ;D ;D
I can leg press almost 900lbs for reps, I don't know if that's good or bad.
-
tha'ts a big leg press no matter how you look at it! is that your last set? single? or working rep range?
1300+ i think would be impressive for a natural. There are only a few guys at the gym including the competing amatuer juicers that can do that....
my own working rep rangs is 990-1200 lbs...my last set ends with 8 reps of 1200
-
my (natural) friend who is 6ft 185, been lifting for one year, can put up 495 for one rep, i dont know where the strength comes from.

I did 855 for reps last week...I think 6, not sure though, it's in my cool training journal...I'm gonna try 875 next time.
-
poundages on leg press are always so ambiguous. For example, Dorian Yates, for reps, maxed out on the leg press at 1200lbs, but he took his knees all the way to his head. Ronnie did 2300lbs, with about half the range of motion. Both methods obviously worked.
My preference is to squat all the way to the floor, but on leg press to do like Coleman. I feel going farther down on leg press really puts you in a precarious position if you get stuck :P
Now, my gym has a standard cybex leg press. I have loaded it all the way with plates (10 per side) and then put 4 25s up on the top of the sled. I did this about 6 or 8 reps I believe. Now, compare that with my squat in that same session I did 300lbs for 4 reps with my ass to the floor.
A 300lb squat is hardly a feat, but if you hear 1000lb leg press that sounds much more impressive, when in reality it's not.
-
i did 485 at 196 pounds when i was natural in a power lifting meet...even had to pause at the bottom and almost fell over...lol

I totally agree with Tex......you only do one cycle your essentially natural in my book. I did the same cycle and actually dropped lower then when I started strengthwise after I finished it. Big waste of time and like he said unless you to it regularly, one cycle is going to do more harm than any positive benefit........just my .02.

So you have chicken legs then.
