He can and should say what he wants. It’s his right living in this country he wouldn’t have this freedom in his beloved China. He should let his words speak more than his actions.

Every athlete wants to be Ali, a martyr for justice, but no one wants to pay the price that Ali paid, and rightfully so, but they should realize that the 1% making money off of slave labor in China doesn’t speak for the disenfranchised here. Lebron is another clanging symbol who’s time of relevance, as an A list athlete, is a running short.

On one hand I recognize Kaepernick’s point about police needing more training, on the other I’m saddened that he believed police reform is the biggest issue facing the African American community (and it is a good issue to support but the police only enforce the laws that continue to enslave black males in prison. The fight should be about the laws and lawmakers or even the community mindset regarding those laws).

But Kaepernick was no Ali. His opinions undoubtedly cost him years off his career but it was also likely more profitable to be the martyr than an average starting QB on the downswing of his career. Ali went away as the best and came back as the best, Colin realized he could control the narrative if he was “blackballed”. The thought of a dominant player being locked out is better than the reality of a mediocre loud mouth.

Now people have created a hero out of George Floyd. A monster of a man who loved his mama. The cop was wrong and showed a complete lack of judgment and social awareness to allow himself to be videotaped for over 9 minutes while he had his knee on George. He wouldn’t let the people over ride his “rights or authority“ as a law enforcement officer. And now he lives with that decision. In turn he allowed the criminal to be a hero.

People didn’t love George until he was dead. It was then he became human.

But what has really changed? Are “we” making life better for the homeless, minorities or the poor? Or do people continue to turn a blind eye to these people and demand others not be racist and renounce white privilege?

One day society will tear down the George Floyd monuments the same way they’re tearing down and removing everything from the past today.

The question is what will have been learned from all of this?
