President Joe Biden, during his speech to Congress on Wednesday, called for a ban on “high-capacity magazines” that hold up to 100 rounds.
“We need a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines again. Don’t tell me it can’t be done,” Biden said. “We’ve done it before … and it worked. Talk to most responsible gun owners, most hunters—they’ll tell you there’s no possible justification for having 100 rounds—100 bullets—in a weapon.”

I was surprised at Biden's speech. I kept waiting for him to brag about himself and insult another person or country. When it didn't happen, it reminded me of what it was like to have a grown up for POTUS.

I like how in his speech he told us we no longer had to wear our masks outside. Like any non retarded lib was obeying that mandate anyway. The White House probably figured it looked bad that no one was listening to them so they came out and "allowed" us to not wear masks to make it look like people were obeying them.

How about a new bill the would increase funding for mental health facilities? If people weren’t going crazy, they wouldn’t be going on shooting rampages. Anyone who’s ever worked in healthcare knows the mental health system is over burdened and under funded.

Like you, I was not surprised at what he didn't say. I was pleased and proud that we finally have an intelligent, mature adult as POTUS. One who seeks to bring people together for a common good instead of dividing us. Someone who is man enough to ask for our help in accomplishing mutual goals which beneficial for everyone.

I did not watch it but both the polls and experts give him decent marks. He is trying hard and a decent guy and the majority of Americans see exactly that. But I don’t see his approval going too much above its current 55 percent or thereabouts because those who oppose him (many right here) REALLY oppose him. But compare that to Trump’s consistent 45 percent. Mostly Biden’s future will depend on the economy next few years.
By the way, Trump becomes increasingly irrelevant by the day. I don’t care for them but the Rick Scotts, and Ron DeSantis’ and Marco Rubios need to step forward.
-
"GOP reaction was typical and unsurprising. During Biden’s speech Lindsey Graham didn’t applaud a plea to support the right to vote. Mitch McConnell looked asleep or worse. was he ever awake ? Ted Cruz sat looking numb as Biden proposed lowering prescription drug prices. Kevin McCarthy was motionless as Biden proposed clean water for all Americans. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina, who delivered the GOP’s response, gave the impression of having a hard time finding fault with the president. Scott called Biden a seemingly decent man who means well, before trying to poke a few holes in Biden’s speech. “The president and his party are pulling us further and further apart,” Scott said
Ted Cruz looked like a Jackass. He either was or was pretending to be so bored that he couldn't keep his eyes open. Why did he even bother attending?

I believe Biden's approval poles are based on the number of people and not how passionate they are in opposing him....unless of course all 45% vehemently oppose him and have vowed to hold their ground.
Like you said Biden's success will depend a great deal on the state of the economy.

Despite all that, he is fairly well liked right now. Time will tell. Approval on the virus has been there all along, now approval on economy creeping up. Immigration issues are his Achilles heel though. He needs to get that act together.

Did not watch the speech but I will look at video and report back. I am not much for Black Lives Matter and droning on about racism if that is what that deals with.
Watched it. I am very proud of my Caucasian roots and into my ancestry and finding 1800s cemetery plots, etc. but I think Biden is simply saying that we are a nation of ongoing immigration and simply pointing out that most of our current immigration comes from Latin America, Asia etc. He is simply stating a fact and I think his heart is in the right place on welcoming immigrants, as we always have.
That said, I feel very strongly that immigration needs to be LEGAL immigration, so if there is any issue where I think Democrats need to listen to Republicans and where the two parties need to collaborate, it is on the issue of immigration. Immigration enforcement is essential, and I believe we actually need MORE ICE and border enforcement staff, not less, and better computer systems for visa overstays, for examples.

why does most of our immigration come from these non white countries? gee could it be because they will vote democrat?
he said he wants people that look like him to be the minority in america, why do you think his heart is in the right place on that? it would be called "racism" if he said that about any other race, can you name the countries where whites are the minority and it's a good place to live?

Agreed, those are deep echo chambers as well. But Trump voters fooled themselves into thinking that the were the majority because we surround ourselves with people with like attitudes. And Trump supporters were LOUD about how they felt (at least in my circle, Trump voters way out-screamed the Biden voters). All I am saying is face reality (either side). Don’t get fooled by your surroundings. I say the same thing to my “progressive” sister who lives in a progressive bubble.

Donald Trump Speaks Out On Biden’s Speech, Rails Against The President For Not Acknowledging His “Accomplishments” In Office: “They’re Very Ungracious People”

Fox Business’ Maria Bartiromo had former President Donald Trump on her show, and of course, it turned into whine-fest. Predictably, Trump on Thursday morning responded to President Joe Biden’s first address to Congress. The former president complained, saying that Biden is “ungracious” by not acknowledging the “accomplishments” of the Trump administration in his speech. However, I don’t recall Trump ever giving credit to his predecessor for handing him a healthy economy to work with.

“You see how they’re blaming you on everything, and they do not attribute the successes that you had to your administration,” Bartiromo said. “How do you feel about that?”
“It’s ridiculous,” Trump said. “Obviously, they’re very ungracious people. I did the vaccine. They like to take the vaccine. But even the fake news isn’t giving them credit for that. We did the vaccine, saved tens of millions of lives throughout the world by coming up with a vaccine. If I weren’t president, vaccine, you wouldn’t have a vaccine for five years; three to five years would be the minimum. I got it done in less than nine months. And that’s only because of me.”

Trump continued to drone on, suggesting that the Biden administration is taking credit for Operation Warp Speed, saying “we had a great delivery system and all they did is take what we had and keep it moving.” He then ranted about the temporary pause of the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine, suggesting somehow that it was done for political reasons or to appease Pfizer.

However, the Trump administration pledged 40 million coronavirus vaccine doses in December. It delivered fewer than 32 million. Biden promised to deliver one million shots in 100 days. He delivered 200 million. And Trump didn’t “do” the vaccine any more than Biden did. That credit goes to the scientists. And Trump didn’t have a plan to distribute the vaccines.

According to a new poll, 71% of Americans that watched Biden’s speech said they walked away feeling more optimistic about the country’s direction. President Biden didn’t list his grievances or lash out at his critics. Biden didn’t dance to YMCA while Americans are dying. President Biden remains laser-focused on fighting COVID-19 instead of holding super-spreader rallies as his predecessor did. And now, Trump wants credit for Biden’s success in distributing the same vaccine he took privately.

They tried that in 1861. Bad idea.
It ended slavery, which was good, but a lot of people died , fighting it out.
I've heard the leader of North Korea, tells people where they can live.
Those fiercely loyal to him, live in the capitol and rest "scrape by" in mostly rural parts.
That doesn't sound like a good system . I like being free to choose where I live. Don't you?
The hard progressive left and pro-Trump right might be at odds.
But, the rest us prefer living in the UNITED States !

The summer riots were horrendous, but the “insurrection” was way worse. Attack on the seat of government encouraged by government. To my perspective, you have loose screws if you don’t see that.
And reshuffling the country into two parts like Cyprus is beyond absurd. Nobody in Cyprus really ended up happy about it but it was easier, the Greeks shuffled over to one side and the Turks to the other. Here we would have to split individual houses into two parts and cart one side of the house one way and the other section in another direction.
-
Predictably, Biden tries to take credit for other President's accomplishments. It's all about me, me, me with Biden.

Yes. One person was killed as a result of citizens entering the Capitol and that was by a Capitol officer murdering a woman. Over 7000 people die a day in the US and they included 4 unrelated DC deaths into the media narrative. The guy the media said brought all the arrest zip ties to the Capitol got them from the police. The police had the intent of arresting citizens. The police were the same people caught on camera waving people in.
Around ten busloads of conservative Orthodox Jews came from NY to the Capitol on that day. They blew the Shofar into Capitol windows. Aaron Mostofsky, one of the guys in Esau fur, was the son of a Jewish Brooklyn judge.
The anti-Semitism never ends with those accusing the people of visiting the Capitol on Jan. 6 as being insurrectionists.
They eat up everything the media says. The media could reverse their script tomorrow and then they'd follow that. Puppet-brained dummies. :D

Sorry Earl, but you're missing the whole point MphGroove is trying to make.
Even after Herbert Hoovers presidency with the crash of '29, he still got 39% of the vote in the 1932 election that FDR won.
People have always had strong opinions and voting preferences, regardless of the media or events. That's human nature.
The point is, many hardcore types on the LEFT and RIGHT rarely hear opinions they don't agree with.
I don't know you , but you seem trapped inside your own political "bubble".
You're getting a skewed perspective of the real political landscape.
For example, after the 2016 election, I told diehard liberal friends, that Hillary really did lose to Trump.
They were in total denial about the growing Trump bandwagon in rural America.
They only heard cable news opinions , that promoted a liberal view. They hung out with fellow progressives and
read pro-liberal political views. In simple terms, they were isolated from the "other half" of America.
In my case, I live in a highly republican region of N Ga. I saw with my own eyes, the enthusiasm for Trump and the hatred of Hillary.
I saw a pro-Trump boat parade at a nearby lake on the local news , lots of MAGA hats and huge Trump flags everywhere.
Plus, I even read and interact with diehard conservatives on getbig.com for the past 20 years ;D
However, once you left this region of Ga and went to suburban /metro Atlanta , it was quite a different scene.
NOBODY reasonable here is telling you how to vote or think. But it might benefit you , IF you got out of your bubble a bit and took a look around at the overall scene. ;)

I don’t know about who out-screams the other. I think both sides do, so I agree. I know if you are a Trump conservative working in Hollywood or a big city school system, you probably smile and keep your mouth shut while the liberals pontificate. I have a close female friend (conservative) who says she just smiled her way through high school to get the grades saying to herself that she was not about to change any of her own views any time soon. All I can say is that in my circle (about two thirds Biden to one third Trump), it has been the Trump voters who rail out loud about masks, big city mayors and on and on and on with no consideration of the views around them. That’s why I said way back when that the Biden voters were the silent majority and my prediction turned out to be correct.
-
And this where they’ll lose. Socialism, Marxism/Communism has never worked in the history of the world and has always ended bad for both but it also ended those regimes
In fairness, we're hardly a Marxist regime of loyal comrades.
The country has always gone thru eras of governing philosophy .
For example, starting with FDR in the 1930's to Jimmy Carter in the late 70's, our GOV was more liberal .
Then Reagan came in 1981 and said too much GOV, was the problem.
Limited GOV and low taxes were the core standards during much of the next 40 years .
Now , we have a new POTUS pushing the old FDR type of liberal agenda.
Most Americans (like me ) seem to agree with the recent push to have GOV help them .
The national push for Covid relief and free public vaccines are VERY popular.
So, is the new jobs and infrastructure push by the Biden camp.
However, things like restrictive gun laws, embracing "alternative lifestyles" ( pro LGBTQ) or more open immigration are not popular.
In the end, Biden, like every President , will pick his battles and fight for what's possible, based on the will of the people.
FYI, in my opinion, California needs a few more reasonable conservatives ,to balance out those on the loony left. Just sayin' ;)

But it might benefit you , IF you got out of your bubble a bit and took a look around at the overall scene. ;)
Interesting to draw parallels with the FDR years. As popular as he was, the Republican opposition painted FDR as Marxist/Socialist. Similar to now, the opposition was the minority, however their numbers were HUGE.
1928 Herbert Hoover got 39 percent of popular vote
1932 and 1936 Landon and Wilkie got about 36 to 37 percent
Even as discredited as he is, Trump could easily get 35 to 40 percent, even more, if he decided to run in 2024.

How Every Modern President's Approval Ratings Compare After Their First 100 Days

Ever since the presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the American public has been fixated on a president's first 100 days. Though some of the men who held the nation's top office have disputed the importance of a potentially arbitrary number of days, many analysts believe the first 100 days of a presidency can foreshadow the tone and ability of the administration.
Whether the evaluated or the evaluators are correct about the importance of the 100-day evaluation, one thing is certainly true: The approval ratings of a president can change over the course of three months. Beginning in 1945, Gallup began to measure the public's view of the US president's job performance and has provided a clear, statistical understanding of expectations and accomplishments since President Harry S. Truman.
The data has illuminated trends over the decades. Presidents usually experience a boost in public approval during their first few months in office. For some presidents, how they handle a major crisis in their first 100 days can make or break their legacies. For others, specific bills or policies can completely change the public's attitude. But above all else, the polls show the public's feelings regarding their president's competence over their first 100 days.

This says he's the worst marionette ever. A disgrace. >:(

Like the geriatric lady in the old TV commercial, Dementia Joe Biden has fallen and he can’t get up.
Of course, in that instantly viral video Friday, after the three tumbles going up (not down) the stairs, “President” did finally manage, unlike the old lady, to limp unsteadily onto Air Force One.
But perhaps even more disturbing than the falls or his doddering, unsteady walk from Marine One to the Boeing 747 was what happened when he reached those treacherous boarding stairs on the tarmac.
From the back, you could see him look down, apparently in either confusion or trepidation, or both.
Finally, staring at the ground, Biden saluted the empty stairs. After which he began his painful climb.
According to the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS), those suffering from dementia “are more likely to experience problems with mobility, balance and muscle weakness.”
A picture is worth a thousand words. And Friday’s indicated how far the 46th president has already slipped at age 78. That day, he was on his way to Atlanta, to visit the Centers for Disease Control, which at the White House he recently called “the CD.”
Last week he made a brief address to the nation on the virus he’s repeatedly called “COVID 9.” He began his speech:
“Good evening my fellow Americans. Tolight I’d like to talk to you about where we are.”
As if Joe has a clue about where he is, tolight or any other light, I mean night.
Since our last Weekend at Biden’s column, he has again described Kamala Harris as “President Harris.”
After earlier calling Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin “Sen. Austin,” this week he totally forgot his name:
“I want to thank the sec the the uh the former general I keep calling him general my my uh the guy who runs the outfit over there …”
The outfit over there? That would be the Pentagon. Remember, Biden is the same guy who during the campaign forgot the name of the Declaration of Independence — “you know, the thing.”
Also last week, Biden gave an interview to a fawning Democrat operative on ABC News and got testy when asked about the “children” (most of whom are between the ages of 15 and 17) invading the southern border with their hands out.
Despite the insanity of his administration’s open-borders policy, Biden angrily defended the chaos and lawlessness he had pledged to bring back during his so-called campaign.
“What do you do with an unaccompanied child that comes to the border? Do you repeat what Trump did? Take them from their mother?”
Um, if they’re “unaccompanied,” Mr. President, that means they’re not with their mothers.
But this is the same guy who during the campaign sternly told police that when confronted with “an unarmed person coming at them with a knife or something,” the cops should “shoot them in the leg.”
You know, like Roy Rogers and Hopalong Cassidy used to do when confronted with an “unarmed” person coming at them with a knife.
On St. Patrick’s Day, Biden reminisced about his years as veep, when he said he’d have “a breakfast at my home, the vice president’s residence with leading Irish Americans.”
After that March 17 breakfast, he continued, they’d all head to the White House “and then we’d go up to the United States Capitol where the Speaker of the House starting with Tip O’Neill would put on an event as well.”
For the record Joe Biden became vice president in 2009. Tip O’Neill died in 1994.
Here are some more of Dementia Joe’s latest Greatest Hits. As always, all dialogue guaranteed verbatim:
“We need the resources of the American Rescue Pan and we need it urgently.”
“Vast majority of economists left right and center from Wall Street to the to the private private uh uh uh economic uh polling initiatives ….”
“You know that both members of the uh of the uh of of of the military uh couples can thrive while serving.”
“Our girl goal is to do everything we can to help every educator receive a shot this month.”
“The Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency youth aus-authorization.”
“Almost every single aspect would be significant would be every every if you took the pieces of this bill and broke it into all the pieces.”
“She flew too in support of combatant um combat missions.”
“And some of it is going to take an uh you know an it’s an an an intensity of purpose and mission.”
Here’s more of the NHS’s definition of dementia: “Some of these symptoms include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem solving, communication and language.”
Dementia Joe’s first solo press conference is supposed to be held next Thursday. What do you think the first question should be?

So you want President Harris? 25th Amendment. She will probably be running three years from now anyway (and is certainly no shoo-in with the right opposition) so we should try her out in the meanwhile?

In answer to your question, no, but sure, speed things up.

He IS OLD, as Trump will be. So anything could happen. I think it unlikely Biden would run again. I don’t think EITHER Democrats or Republicans (obsessing at this point over Biden and the departed and fading Trump) have really thought much about the reality of Candidate Harris or potential President Harris. Fox News seems concerned, though. They are ranting on and on about no news conferences so far.
Humor me for a minute here. Who would you like to see run against Harris in 2024 (if Trump is your choice, I am asking for your second choice)?

I predict that Biden will resign after the mid-terms, though it could be sooner. Harris can’t duke it out in the primaries, so the only way she can stand a chance of winning a presidential election is as the incumbent. It's all planned.
Too many hints dropped already:
“a Harris administration, with Joe Biden as president”
It’s now the “Biden-Harris administration.”
“if I reach something where there’s a fundamental disagreement we have based on a moral principle, I’ll develop some disease and say I have to resign”
-
There are millions on both sides and it’s come to a head. How can the country continue like this? It can’t without one side dragging the other side kicking and screaming. The responsible thing to do is split the country up. Let the right take one half and the left take the other half. People are free to move to the one they want to.
right, but there's more in the middle who thinks both at the far end of the 2 parties are lunatics.
-
And this where they’ll lose. Socialism, Marxism/Communism has never worked in the history of the world and has always ended bad for both but it also ended those regimes
It's never worked but has been tried many times by people who centralized all the capital for themselves and their friends while populations suffer and die. It's exactly what is going on right now. Too much power and capital in the hands of the few corrupt....only the Constitution and the norms of the USA are standing in the way and those will soon be done away with. Why do you think they want a replacement population coming over the border? Those people have never had the freedoms that are being taken away here.
-
I was very disappointed he didn't spend half his speech bragging about himself and the other half vilifying half the country. God I miss Trump!

I agree with Moontrane, you could see Biden hinting at resigning a mile away. Why wouldn't the left appoint the first female president, Biden is a doorstop and Harris would be as much a prop as he is.
I'm not into the R/D back and forth or filtering my world through the corporate news/entertainment lens. One of the few on the right that you might have heard of who has veered away from the neocon/noahide lunacy is Michelle Malkin, but she's not a politician and no one can change anything long term until you change the culture.

By what metric is this not feeble:

It’s not just that he’s old. It’s that he looks even older. I would guess his age in the mid to late 80s when he’s only 78.

This disgusting, honourless traitor isn’t worthy to be spared any measure of discomfort.
It is my hope his (fast approaching) death is an experience of seemingly limitless pain and turmoil.
That with his final breaths the Angel of Mercy turns her back ... and the Angel of Death blows demon winds into his rotted lungs.
That the Reaper personally welcomes him to the start of an eternity of torment.
Fortress will smile.
i feel the same i just couldn't put it into words as well as you :)

Here we would have to split individual houses into two parts and cart one side of the house one way and the other section in another direction.
why was the "insurrection" worse?
were more people injured? no
were more people killed? no in fact the only person murdered a unarmed 14 year female veteran by a cop the media refuses to name, odd considering how anti police they have been don't you think?
you people are essentially saying a few broken windows, medical emergencies, and a dude putting his feet on pelosi's desk are on par with the 9/11 hijackers ::)

I see it more like the attack on Ft Sumter which started the Civil War. We don’t look back and count the dead or analyze exactly who did what to who for that event. It’s an attack on a sovereign nation encouraged by insiders. In the dictionary, that is called insurrection.

So you think the oldest man who ran for and won the Presidency, despite the fact that he has “obvious” cognitive issues, that some contest make him unfit for office, will develop a conscious or enough self awareness to step away from the one position he’s wanted his whole life?
I could see him being physically unable to continue but it seems pretty far fetched to think he would willingly, or that even his party would recommend, step away.
These people have the same ego as Trump, they do a better job concealing it though.

Tim Scott's response was dreadful. Right wing media gushed about him like he's the second coming but he kept emphasizing the wrong phrases, Did Shatner mentor this guy?
It came across like a cold reading without compreshension of what he's saying. Dude needs a few read throughs and a charisma coach.

This will have no effect on Getburglers but Biden just announced that people who make less than $400,000 will not pay a single penny in taxes. He said this during a rare lucid moment so we should hold him accountable for the sake of our less wealthy brethren.

He is raising the corporate tax rate 8%.
Corporations don’t pay taxes, consumers do.
So in the end, who do you think ends up footing the bill for Rapist Biden’s tax increase?
