I started when I was 8 or 9 with a set of billards and the booklet pic'd below. i got more interested in high school and got info from these early muscle mags.

I`ve been to York 2 times but never got to see the museum/Hall Of Fame cuz I was doing a contest there on both occasions.
I was pissed cuz I always wanted to visit the museum but just couldn`t afford to stay another night what with the ton of money I had already spent..................a nd I was tired and couldn`t wait to get home.

One of the many men Joe Greenstein inspired........Slim "The Hammer Man" Farman
In the year 1975, Slim “The Hammer Man” Farman stood alone before the crowd of 21,000 screaming fans at Madison Square Garden.
Just a few moments later he would attempt a world record: to lever a pair of twenty eight pound hammers — 56 pounds on 31 inch handles, with 1736-inch pounds of pressure on his wrists.
For a second, Slim’s mind flashed back to his job for the previous three decades — swinging a 16 pound sledge hammer for 9 hours a day, breaking tons of stone.
He thought of the day back in 1955 when he met his mentor The Mighty Atom, who taught him how to break chains, and bend steel as well as how to focus all his energy for one intense moment…
Slim Farman moved toward his hammers, a hush fell over the crowd… and Slim stepped into the record books.

Not really strongman acts but in the early 80s in Texas the Young brothers Doug and Bob started doing two man deadlifts at various meets.A couple of other brothers Clay and Doug Patterson then got into them and pulled somewhere in the 1400lb range. Then biceps started ripping and everyone started rethinking this lift.

Doug I believe played at Texas Tech although I m just going by memory. They had a younger brother (can’t remember his name) who some old man from Brownwood told me was the best football player of them all. I saw Doug bench 611 in a t shirt not these Kevlar sling shot contraptions
