Title: Any big golfers here?
Post by: robcguns on August 06, 2021, 08:30:18 PM
Looking for the best driver for long ball,I’ve read reviews but just wanted to here any first hand thoughts? I went driving balls a few nights ago after work and I haven’t done it in a while but I enjoy it. Took alot of warm ups but once I went thru first bucket of balls I was hitting 200-250 yards. Would like to hit 300+ so looking for the best driver for the job. Looking to spend 500-700.

From what I read Calloway epic max and epic speed are the best for long ball, anyone try these?

Also Krank formula 11x and brute 400 “illegal drivers”?

Hitting driving range with a 5mg edible makes for an enjoyable evening.

Just learn how to hit the golf ball or better, swing the club
I've been playing for 15+ years, scratch player and I'll take any driver out of the lost&found bin and hit it over 300
Our junior players with barely 120lbs can drive it 300....it's technique, not the tool

This is true for a lot of things like golf, bowling and even bodybuilding.  Advanced equipment isn't needed until you are at a very advanced level.

Power is not an issue in golf as a bodybuilder you have plenty accuracy is the issue

Big difference between 200-250.
Learn to hit the ball square on the club face consistently {good luck with that!} then you'll have a idea of your true distance.
If that's not far enough then look at how Byrson DeChambeau trains for long drives.

...if that doesn't work then I would suggest triceps kickbacks and straight bar curls.

Get some lessons and work on technique. It’s not how hard you swing, it’s how fast and smooth you swing and make center contact. If you have technique down then check out super speed training

Thanks, I will say my swing is prob the worst ever. I was consistently hitting over 200 and 250 prob every 10 balls. I think I swing to hard and just try to smash which I know isn’t correct but it’s fun. I actually like swinging with one hand verse two hands and when I do that I seem to hit further and easier to swing thru and not focus on smashing ball. Either way my right shoulder kills after swinging for an hour the reason I haven’t drove balls in years.

Look for what the hot driver was 2-4 years ago.

You will be able to get those $500 drivers brand new for $150.

There hasn't been a huge jump in tech since then, and you're not good enough to be able to have any small nuanced improvements make a difference.

In other words, those drivers were insanely good 4 years ago, and still are.

And, given your size/strength and the fact that you'll will likely be swinging your guts out, you'll probably need a "stiff shaft" to enable you to "stroke the ball" better. /nohomo

And don't forget the triceps kickbacks and straight bar curls!

I searched under keywords "stiff shafts" and "stroking balls" and it brought me to this thread.

Slightly disappointed.

Good call,didn’t think of that.

Bought my last full set like that.

Irons were 1.5-2k when they debuted, I got them for $500 new

Same with the driver / 3 wood, etc........500 / 300 bucks, paid 150 / 99.

Get the shoulder pain checked out by a legit doc and spend the money on an MRI before you buy a new driver.

I basically sucked and just liked riding around in the cart and having fun with bros.
I was a lot younger and played a few half-assed rounds. I listened to an experienced golfer
who advised me to hit a a few buckets with my driver and irons at the driving range before I hit the links.

I've played a lot of tennis , but it was strictly for recreation.
A few years ago, I had to quit BOTH due to R shoulder pain AFTER playing.

Mine was diagnosed as osteo-arthritis in the right shoulder joint.
The only permanent solution was shoulder joint reconstruction.

Fuk that .  :o
Now, I avoid athletic movements that cause shoulder pain and work around it.

I know this may not be the answer you want to hear, but it's worked for me.

The key to getting better at golf is to not try and kill it

I did notice when I just swung not so hard it went pretty damn good and didn’t hurt my shoulder as much. To be clear I have no interest in golf just driving balls.

You just like gripping the shaft and stroking the balls.

Tip: Get an extra long shaft on your driver.
