A few months back I took a trip with a group of close family and friends down to Costa Rica.
A great friend who I grew up with in New York City moved down there about 15 years ago and now owns and operates a Bed & Breakfast and has a mushroom farm right outside his property. The guy now holds everything from basic stays and also hosts special "spiritual retreats" by utilizing magic mushrooms and a multitude of other homeopathic agents.
Anyhow, during that trip, it's safe to say that we all went on a "trip" and it was quite possibly one of the most surreal and metaphysical experiences of my life. My friend has his Bed/Breakfast right off the coast and so you are able to enjoy the view of the ocean, as well as its encompassing sounds while taking part in your spiritual journey. Honestly, felt like I was in that movie with Leonardo DiCaprio "The Beach" (particularly in the night scenes by the water) given that mushrooms were consumed at night and by the water.
Now that I've been back in NYC for quite some time and once again bombarded with stimulation overload as only NYC can provide, it all seems like a distant memory.
Have any of you guys/girls ever experienced magic mushrooms? Did it give you a spiritual awakening? Did it give you a bad trip? Did it fuck you over? What was your experience?

Your post reminded me of how little we know of plants even in this day and age. In my hometown of Syracuse, NY the drug company Bristol Myers Squibb actually owns a significant amount of land where they search for new medicinals based on naturally occurring plants.
So many plants contain extremely active organic compounds - in fact many stronger than prescription pharmaceuticals we get from doctors. Psilocybin being one of them. It apparently releases serotonin and that is the key to its pharmacological action.
The basic structure of the molecule is called a "substituted indole" That is the two geometric rings you see in the attached drawing. Funny thing is is this same molecule is used in the body to produce the essential amino acid tryptophan. It is also the same structure found in DMT (dimethyltryptamine)
In any case magic mushrooms may be one of the safest psychedelics there is, as long as you don't overdo it.

Amazing what substances from the earth can teach and provide to us.
I hope that in the future, society as a whole really starts to look into the various properties behind mushrooms and consider giving them a try versus the typical pharmaceutical bullshit in a bottle that we've been peddled for centuries.

Energy, and our connection to what that energy is, was both presented as an inquiry to us, but also felt throughout our bodies much like the shocks of electricity down your spine.

Metaphysical. We've all been high on some substance or another (say Marijuana), but I think mushrooms can give you a truly different experience. Call it soul searching or internal awakening or some other new age shit that my words fail to describe, but it certainly gives you a different experience. Some of my friends that have used Cocaine for instance, have told me that their high from cocaine was simply different, but had no effect on their desire to further explore the possible spiritual aspects of reality.
And who knows, I'm assuming that Ayahuasca or DMT type experiences are even more extreme.

When I did cocaine a few times I just wanted to get laid. Nothing metaphysical at all. If you like the feeling you get from mushrooms but can't get them often you want to try certain methods of meditation. The Monroe Institute has some recordings that will really blow your mind.

There is like an 8 week course of meditations where you have all kinds of weird out of body experiences. The remote viewers in the military used them for years to get into the proper mental state. You can find many of these meditations on Youtube. The Monroe Institute keeps playing whack-a-mole with those posting the videos and gets them taken down but they keep popping up.

I've seen a few youtubers caution people, saying that it might only be worth the risks if you are extremely depressed and nothing else has helped, or if you are an extremely ego driven person. The risks are schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It would be really unfortunate to develop schizophrenia, might as well kill yourself at that point.
But still I'm intrigued.
This one youtuber apparently broke his brain. Was a while ago, don't know if he recovered.

I watch these type videos all the time. The ringing in the ears, tingling vibrations throughout your body, extreme temperature change(while re-entering your body) is probably the same symptoms you felt during obe. Most people get scared during obe and they quickly return to their physical bodies. It definitely changes the way you view life. I believe I opened my third eye but I don't think I fully closed it, which isn't a good thing. I see and feel spirits all the time not just in obe state but fully awake.

I've had dozens of trips both mushrooms, lsd and dmt But if you're in nyc there's a couple of places you can go upstate to have guided trips outside of the city.
I've done them at parties or shows, but i've also done it with my mom and sisters sitting on the rug of our living room chatting about shit i think about fondly growing up.
They can be used in a multitude of ways, there's even a(maybe more than 1) mushroom therapy clinings on 5th ave, they're just on the cusp of being mainstream therapy tools.
My "best" trip ever was at mosquito bay in puerto rico, tripping and seeing bioluminescence.. indescribable

I bought some a couple of months ago for a friend that wanted to microdose them to help him come off antidepressants. Since I run gear, everyone seems to come to me for everything illegal. I did some online research, and the Penis Envy strain seemed to be the most potent. I was able to get a half once of Penis Envy from my daughters girlfriend who buys all of her drugs from a "Plug" on snap chat. I had no idea you could do that. This guy has a whole menu on snap chat. You just order from him, and he delivers it to your house. I'm sure it's not legal here in Washington...yet, but we have a very permissive attitude up here in the NW when it comes to drugs....and rioting.

No more drugs and alcohol for me..............I lived a mierable existance for 33 year off and on.....but I neve preach to anyone.
I`ve had guests at my house who have asked me if it would bother me if they drank in front of me.....my reply....if I wanted to drink I would drink you all under the table for a week straight around the clock............I never crave it nor think about it often cuz it ruined my life for many decades...........dont miss drugs or booze in the least.

I watch these type videos all the time. The ringing in the ears, tingling vibrations throughout your body, extreme temperature change(while re-entering your body) is probably the same symptoms you felt during obe. Most people get scared during obe and they quickly return to their physical bodies. It definitely changes the way you view life. I believe I opened my third eye but I don't think I fully closed it, which isn't a good thing. I see and feel spirits all the time not just in obe state but fully awake.

I never saw anything that really wasn’t there, but “saw” things in people and situations if that makes sense. It was like a different plane of existence. Anyway, I’ve got way too much on my plate for that now, I’m 40 with a wife and kids and other responsibilities. I had a freak out on edibles about three years ago that made it almost like a bad trip.
My wife had never done it and we were at a cookout last Christmas time and the girl had a chocolate and they cut it up into pieces and her and my wife microdosed. She said it was one of the coolest experiences she’s had, just hanging out, playing with the kids and laughing. Not a tripping/laughing fit, just having a good time. I’d entertain it on the right vacation at the right time. The stars would have to perfectly align. Good stuff One.

My wonder is whether Micro dosing would allow for adequate daily functionality with reduced overall stress and an ability to, as you mentioned, see things in people and situations. I think mushrooms provide you with a difference experience from what most experience after using THC for instance.

That's some heavy duty stuff Wes. The most I'm willing to try is THC and mushrooms. Even DMT or Ayahuasca seem a bit too hardcore for my blood.

Once I dropped 2 hits of THC....good old school shit in capsules....1980`s.....I didn`t seem to feel them hitting me.
The guys I was with were all intravenous drug users....I wasn`t, but one of my "freinds" convinced me to shoot up another hit.....like the idiot I am I did it.....then all 3 hit me instantly.....OD CITY for the kid for the first time...turned purple and was pronounced dead by a group of Indian dctors...dot not feather......a priest was even at the hospital.
I was strapped to a gurney in my boxer shorts in a hallway as my friends had just dumped me outside the ER door as to avoid questioning by the cops.
All of a sudden I started yelling get my fucking clothes you assholes.
Obviouly a misdiagnosis. LOL
Since that time I have been pronounced dead on 2 more occasions from shooting stuff up.....I was never a junkie I was more of a drunkie but I dabbled in intravenous shit......cocaine was my favorite, then THC, then heroin which I had no tolerance for at all.
Valium,crack,pills MDA...you name it,I did it.
Here`s a horror story for you I had overdosed and caught Hepatitu B from using a dirty needle shared with a bonafide junkie my couin....she is dead now.....hospitalized for seven days with a 105 degree fever,,,,,my shit was white,my piss was orange as were my eyes and skin, all of my joints felt like they were on fire....one second I would be pouring fucking sweat, two minutes later I was so cold my teeth were chattering....BTW 106 degrees is death and I had 105 for 7 days straight.
My buddy visits me with a pint of Jack Daniels,....I said WTF Mike I`m dying have a pint for me.
Then on the 7th day in the afternoon I felt completely normal again....signed myself d out AMA and before I took a bus to my aunts house I stopped and bought a pint of cheap wine and 2 huge joints.....that`s the nature of the disease.
BTW when I first contracted Hep B....anything I ate or drank would hit the bottom of my stomach and the I would violently have a huge projectile vomit party.
I was nuts that` why I am grateful to till be alive.....and it`s part of the reason I fear no one.
I have tons of stories like that and will share a real scary one tomorrow since I type with one finger....hey I grew up in the 60`s and 70`s no computers ....I took typing but never learned how to type cuz I was always stoned from smoking herb.
THAT`S JUST ONE REASON WHY I`M GRATEFUL TO STILL BE HERE MY FRIEND.

I knew a young chick once and some fuckhead put a shitload of hits of acid in her drink....unbeknownst to her of course.
She was never the same again.....I would see her on the street talking to herself....doing cartwheels down the street....I shit you not, and just babbling incoherantly.....very sad cuz she was a really young beautiful chick.
I vowed that if I ever found out who did that to her I would kill the mutherfucker cuz I hung in that bar...one of too many actually.....I kept asking around but I never found out who did it.
I`m a bit glad I never found out cuz if I did it would have been his funeral and my trial that fucking scumbag.

I actually started following a guy named Paul Stamets, who is quite the pioneer in this field. I then noticed that he was on the Rogan podcast, but haven't listened in on it yet. Will check out both Pollan and Stamets soon.
For now, curious as to where Americans get their mushrooms from, as legality is an issue here in the states.

Stamets is a fountain of knowledge. I want to learn more and especially about DMT. I’ve seen the effects first hand from a friend who I think had three guided sessions. He is a completely different man. His productivity at work is 100 times what it was before and he was already doing well. He has a level of compassion that I am sure was always there but he is no longer afraid to show. He is a high level martial artist, but I sparred and rolled with him recently and he was amazing - not necessarily just improved skill but he talked to me the entire time and opened about appreciating me just for me - it was a beautiful thing to witness

I knew a young chick once and some fuckhead put a shitload of hits of acid in her drink....unbeknownst to her of course.
She was never the same again.....I would see her on the street talking to herself....doing cartwheel down the street....I shit you not, and just babbling incoherantly.....very ad cuz she was a really young beautiful chick.
I vowed that if I ever found out who did that to her I would kill the mutherfucker cuz I hung in that bar...one of too many actually.....I kept asking around but I never found out who did it.
I`m a bit glad I never found out cuz if I did it would have been his funeral and my trial that fucking scumbag.
Buddy of mine saw a guy put something in a chicks drink while her back was turned, we escorted him out back to "grab a smoke", he didn't come back in. :)

That's the resounding theme I got from my experience with mushrooms. The idea that we are ALL connected and part of the same source, as if we are all energy meant to experience all that life has to offer through the strict confines of our egos. This was the kind of experience that mushrooms offered. It pushed for the appreciation of the idea that we are here to experience both the good and bad and just live to our full potential. Also, the idea that we keep coming back to life and that many of the people we have in our lives are somehow interconnected. I'm telling you man, some of the most metaphysical and spiritual shit I've ever experienced with no major detriment afterwards and instead a desire to be kinder to others.

I got a zillion tales I could tell.....certainly not for the sake of bragging as I am mortified by a lot of them looking back now that I`m older....but yes I had a lot of fun at times....big fun....but I also fucked up my life so the bad outweighed the good.....for me anyway.
I know what I did last night, I didn`t puke on my shoes, or insult anyone other than Bhanks LOL I didn`t spend my rent money on crack,i didn`t get into a fight or a bar room brawl etc. etc.....reality sucks but it takes more of a man to face it than to turn into a wastebasket.
A huge part of my problem was an alcoholic woman beating father who told me I would never amount to shit and a lifetime of chronic depression and an extreme anxety disorder.
Today I see a therapist because self medicating is not the answer for anyone.,.....especially for a guy like me with no off switch.

I am 'A Responsible Adult' nowawadays, but it's no secret that I never met a drug I didn't like ;D
Shrooms were OK I guess - took a bunch once at a party in an old gothic vicarage - the cellar had those pillars - had a mild panic attack when police sirens sounded nearby, broke through a window and jumped over the nearest wall to hide. It was a graveyard... not the best place to reflect on the nature of existence for the next hour or two...
LSD was much more fun - I never believed visual hallucinations were an actual real thing... until I started having them LOL. Top 3 - and I SWEAR to the below, no matter how ridiculous or unbelievable they sound - I have no reason to lie here
1 Laid in bed (low to the floor) - look across to the door, and that little pale baby mouse (from Tom and Jerry) walked into the room wearing a folded paper hat - got so far in, turned on his heels, and walked out. Clearly some sort of replay of something I'd seen as a child. I jumped out of bed laughing my ass off to chase the little fella, and was sad that he'd disappeared...
2 Middle of a night club dance floor. Suddenly realised everyone's face was like a ventriloquist's dummy - lines either side of the mouth, painted eyes, frozen features, etc...
3 This was the strongest one - also in the middle of a dance floor, and hard to describe - anyone I looked straight at, their eyes were closed, but EVERYONE else around me had massively oversized eyes and were staring at me - leaning forward in some cases. I could only see this in my peripheral vision, and as I swept around the room I could see peoples eyes slowly open and close depending on if I was looking at them - trippy, but I knew it was the drugs, so I was able to 'enjoy' the effect until it wore off (being served at the bar by someone with their eyes closed was the highlight)
The last two are clearly connected in some way - I must have deactivated some part of my brain that processed facial features/signals, or something...
Oh - and while I'm over-sharing I have a ketamine story:
Partying in London, I hit two massive lines of what I thought was coke... if you've ever been in an accident, you'll know that 'time slowing down' thing is real - I've rolled across a car bonnet once in a motor bike accident. Well we were crossing the Thames on a bridge at 3am when the sh1t kicked in, and I slowed to something like 1/30th speed for a few paces, including my speech. Afterwards I asked if I'd sounded OK, and apparently I came across fine... it was years before the Matrix, but when I saw that film it reminded me of that slo-mo experience
My friend took some of that same sh1t, and his vision inverted for 30 minutes! That caused some panic....

Haven't really looked into it much, but there were some compelling recent studies regarding mushrooms and certain mental health disorders. So much so that they were looking to use them in preference to pharmaceuticals.

I've tried most. LSD is the best for introspection, you remain more lucid than with mushrooms. The acid trips last too long though, that's the main downside.
These days I'm fond of microdosing mushrooms in the morning. 0.3-0.5g puts me in a great mood and puts some extra pep in my step

But I have to tell you, out of the very few things I've dabbled with in my life (Alcohol & THC), this was the only thing that actually felt introspective and didn't give me some strange high that made me feel paranoid or unable to think properly. Throughout the entire experience, my mind was intact. I remember that in between consuming some mushrooms, I even had to get on the phone to speak to some family members abroad and they didn't even notice a single thing. It provides you with more clarity about the world around you, as opposed to sucking you into some alternate dimension. Again, that was my experience. I am sure others might have a full trippy experience dose dependent of course.
