If i drop in my distributer at 13 degree before top dead center why would i need a timing light to verify that. I put in a new feul pump , distibutor , ignition coil, new battery. It idles weak then dies sometimes have to gas the pedal to start

Why would you need a timing light to tell how retarded you are ???

Beyond me. Weak idle I'd look at fuel system components tho, maybe plugs, then ratio. What made you think you needed a new distributor?
Timing out of whack would give real rough running, I'd imagine, not just die at idle.

Sounds like a air/fuel delivery issue.
Clogged exhaust? Cats?

I fixed it mostly i think i retarded 'clockwise' the diistributer and adjusted the idle screw to make it more lean 'counter clockwise'
Its a fine balance of adjustments between the two

i was getting sparking knock by valve cover like rapid tapping on acceleration
Im not a truck expert and was kinda curious how difficult it was going to be putting on new parts
