Who had the best physique ever (of the winners) and what year?
I'll go with the GOAT of course - Lee Haney 1991.
Last of the era before the GH, SLIN and bellies stared showing up.
I like Dorian, but I feel Haney is the last of a certain era. (Golden Era Physique).
(Mass, symmetry, proportion, etc).

It's hard to compare eras, so my decision is based on who had the fewest flaws in their physique in the year they won. Samir Bannout comes out on top for me.

Great choice was trying to think (just woke up) and you did it for me.....thank you sir,Samir was incredible the year he won.

Samir did look amazing in '83...

Haney hands down Mass monster with condition who can still do a Vacuum. He also had a better chest than Dorian smaller waist better structure was still crazy condition almost like a bigger stronger Flex Wheeler without the SEO shit
-
91 Haney was awesome, but 93 Yates destroys him.
So either 93 Yates or 2003 Coleman.
There were better versions of Coleman, but that one was most shocking.
-
So far, I've narrowed it down to three.
Lee Haney - 1991 (Haney finally learned how to peak ;D )
Ronnie Coleman - 1999 (it's the closest Olympia version to the 2001 ASC)
And, in a bit of a shocker to some,
Brandon Curry - 2019 (Mr. O from the waist up for years; went to Kuwait, fixed them legs, and got an ever BIGGER back).
-
Haney. People talk about other Mr. O's being mass monsters but Haney had the genetics to be bigger than he ever was. He just didn't go the way of GH and insulin and end up with a belly too. I would guess he could have held another 15-20 lbs of muscle on his frame before distention would even begin to show.

He said that, in 1987 or 1988, he was 257 but was told by the judges that he was pushing it and his waist would suffer if he got any bigger.

I respect all these great warriors

Even without GH and slin we probably didn't see Haney and a lot of the guys before him at their full potential.
Haney quit pretty young. Samir got lazy after winning in 83. Arnold and big Louie got side tracked by Hollywood during their prime. Sergios ego and BB politics got in his way.

::)

Small waist guys it's Arnold, Haney and Sergio. Big waist bubble gut guys it's Yates, Cutler and Coleman.
-
1983 SAMIR BANNOUT.
-
Imo Arnold, second place is Dorian
-
Arnold. And it's not even close.

93 Yates had the best shoulder to waist ratio I've seen.

I'd say that about Haney 1988.
-
Yates has cinder block genetics like Cutler. Golden Coleman had nice aesthetics but wasn't a top 6 Olympian. It comes down to Haney and Arnold and who had the best legs that day.
-
The Screw Your Freedom cuck in 1974 had probably the best physique of all time.
-

You're right. 93 Yates might be the best of all time.

I rather go with Haney; when posing his lines were superior than Yates .... Followed by Ronnie 98' or 99' his lines were superior .
WoooSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BE YE KE
-
Arnold. Fuck Haney. Screw Dorian. And Coleman? That witless fuck is a mindless blob of corpulence now and before he was nothing but 99% drugs. I look forward to Coleman's obit. It'll be brief, like his attention span. I think Zane is better than those guys. Sergio was also better. And Serge Nubret (not a Mr. O winner, I know) makes them look like crap too.
I think Yates was okay until he tore himself apart and then he was gifted out the wazoo as were Haney and Coleman.
Bigger isn't by default, "better" A pile of elephant shit isn't better than a pile of dog shit. Unless you're a horde of hungry flies. In that case Coleman was a veritable SchmoeTown ButtFet...

Haney had a magical physique. The impact it made was something else. You could critisize the individual parts but taken as a whole it was incredible.

To each their own. I disagree. I find him pedestrian at best. As I said, I think Weider gave him 8 wins in a vainglorious attempt to show Arnold who was "boss".
Haney won some O's but not 8 in my opinion and yes, I know opinions are like Goodrums assholes...

Thanks for posting this. I almost forgot how incredible the great Lee Haney truly was. His best form vs Dorian's best vs Ronnie's best is really a pick em.

Different tastes. I know Haney's physique tended to demoralize his competitors. There was a quality to it that was very hard to beat. The depth, the density, how the skin wrapped around the muscle. Skin is one of those things that has a big impact in bb. Those videos still make me go "holy shit", like how could anyone from that era hope to beat him.
As far as structure goes Yates was damn near perfect, it's an underappreciated quality in Dorian. He was nothing like the refridgerator Cutler like another poster said. His skin was damn unique too, no one could duplicate it no matter how lean.

That combo of shots from 1:30-1:50, just unbeatable.
Haney retired just before higher doses of 191AA growth became practical. Just imagine him on years worth of 12iu growth as well as thermogenics like clen to get those glutes and hams harder. Would have been a sight to see.

What flaw or complaint do you have with Haney? He had that massive golden Era chest and vaccum along with modern legs condition and size? He had the best of both Era small hips like Wheeler but more muscular grainy look like Dorain also with a bigger chest and no SEO or Insulin and a decent height as well (same height as me so a little biased)

I think Haney is not really all that great. I don't think much of his physique and find his attitude toward his drug usage disingenuous (as "documented" in one of those Weider commercials, LOL!) to say the least. I prefer Arnold, Zane, Nubret, Paris, et al. I think Steve Reeves is the best natural (and by far the handsomest) bodybuilder ever. Arnold is the best druggie. Arnold had "massthetics" if you will. Haney? Nope. Yates? Nope. Coleman? Fuck that idiot. Cutler? Uhhhh...Nope!
I think Oliva was better too. Much better. I just think Haney is overrated. I prefer the 40s through maybe 84 or so. Others such as yourself think differently. No problem. Every single one of the "modern" era retards are proof of it is not so much "genetics" that matter above all, but that drugs just plain work. Even women get huge and strong on drugs. Ridiculous.

nobody would beat 2003 ronnie

Steve Reeves natural Lol are you kidding?

Steve Reeves natural Lol are you kidding?
You do realize that you are but a child playing at being an adult? If you keep this up, soon you will need a complete transfusion*
* This can be explained but only if you ax politely. Goodnight, kiddo!

Kurt Marnul, Arnold's trainer, claimed Steve Reeves sold him his first steroids in 1952 in Europe.
But for all intents and purposes he was basically natural even if he did experiment. It could only have been very little.

Dorian Yates 1993

Dorian Yates 1993
I saw Dorian guest pose in 1996 at 310lbs with abs. I was within 10 feet of him backstage. Mesmerizing how insane his dimensions were. Later that year I saw Levrone, Francois and Dillet all guest pose at different venues. After seeing Dorian, they were a huge let down. He was so much bigger, better and detailed than those guys. And those guys were freaks.

Ray who couldn't cut above 212 pretty much beat this guy. In shape, Cutler would have beat him soundly. Both have block genetics.

Cutler was a block, Yates wasn't. Yates' skeleton gives the appearance of being much lighter. His scapula was much narrower too which, when a lot of muscle is stacked on top, gives a much more dramatic effect. I've often said that very wide scapula is a negative in bb. Look at Haney, somewhat narrow compared to many. Cutler has shorter legs too which is the single thing that ruins the most aesthetic impressions but most haven't connected this in their minds. Haney had long legs too.
Look at the shoulders of Yates here. Vince Taylor is wider.
Look at the leg length of both Yates and Haney.
Look at the aesthetics of peaked Yates, Cutler never made this type of impression IMO. Though it is somewhat subjective. What you could critisize on Yates is the lack of quad separation mainly.

Testosterone was already being marketed to bodybuilders in 1937 a full decade before Reeves won Mr America in 1947 the entire damn lineup was on Testosterone by 1947

You're right. 93 Yates might be the best of all time.
Bodybuilding peaked with yates 93. His overall structure shape and condition has never been matched not even by the man himself, he regressed from that point. But still deserved all his wins.
-
I was at the 1993 Mr Olympia. It would be hard for me to imagine anyone from any era beating that version of Dorian.

Most unbeatable physique ever presented on stage at the Olympia? I’d say the freaky 2003 Ronnie, although I prefer the 1998/1999 version.
Physique I would most like to have, 1983 Samir.
