Title: A New Bed
Post by: Primemuscle on November 30, 2021, 07:21:23 PM
It is time for me to buy a new mattress for a couple of reasons. Mainly, my current bed is literally a pain in my back. It is also a king-size bed, which is kind of lonely and that isn't likely to change. I bought the mattress and box springs in December 2013. It is a hybrid, spring and memory foam mattress, which lost its memory (like I sometimes do).

What to buy? I'm considering a queen Sleep Number 360 p6 smart bed, with an adjustable flexfit base...great for sitting up in bed. I also need a queen bedstead to replace the King headboard. Altogether this is going to set me back about $5 K or a little more because I also need new bedding.

My daughter and son-in-law recently bought a Sleep Number mattress and base. They say it is the best mattress they ever slept on. If anyone here has any experience with a Sleep Number mattress, I'd like your opinion on it, both pros and cons.

Most mattresses actually are made by the same two companies. The worst mattress I every bought was a  pillow top. I think it's a Serta.  I sink in it so low I have to do a sit up to get out of it. Just horrible. I often go into one of the spare rooms to sleep on a 25 year old mattresses that are actually better than this three year old crap bed.

You might want to try a Purple mattress. I'm happy with mine.

Any bed with memory foam is going to break down.  How fast is just a matter of time.  The firmer the bed (and foam) the slower it breaks down.  Of course that means it tends to sleep like the floor when you first get it.  Many people simply buy a firm mattress and then throw a $300 mattress pad on top.

Personally, I use the iComfort series by Serta.  It has a carbon fiber / gel mixed in with the foam so it helps staying cool all night.  Normal memory foam just gets too hot for me.

Just going to throw this out there, but if you are retired and on Medicare, then you can get a doctor to write you a prescription for Medicare to cover the cost of your mattress.  You said you have back pain.  That's all the reason you really need.  It must last for 5 years, which you say you had the current one for 8 years.. so you should be good to go there.

We bought a king size " Stearns and Foster" a few years ago and absolutely LOVE it.
By far the most comfortable bed I've ever slept or humped on.  100% serious

I've seen more and more ads for those.  But the waffle type design of the flex/gel grid was too "squishy" for me when I tried it.   What brand did you get?

This kind?   My gf got one of these five weeks ago from Macy’s.  The “luxury firm” edition.  We couldn’t send it back fast enough.   The one in the showroom and the one they delivered were NOT the same even though they claimed it was.  Paid $3000+ for a 14.5 inch model.  The one that arrived was 13.5 and they swore it was the same.   They wanted a 15% restocking fee to take it back after two days.  AmEx was like “nahhh brahhh we got this.  Don’t you worry “

An "original" purple mattress.

I understand what you mean about the grid being squishy, there was about a week adjustment period, I was honestly surprised by how much I like it.

I took a shit that looks like Shizzo. I put it in the freezer and from time to  time I will sodomize myself with it and then right back into the freezer.

Yes. I read a little online about them. The make several types. Some are all memory foam and others are a hibrid of foam and coils. What I current have is a hybrid. There are permanent depressions in the memory foam so much so, that you have to literally force roll out of them. Rolling across the width of the bed is a series of up and down hills. And it is not like I am huge at 175 lbs.  :)

Thanks. I will definitely look into this because buying a decent mattress is like a major expense today. The one I'm sleeping on now was less than $1,200 and it was a high end mattress.

Again try the purple. They have them at mattress stores now and even stand alone stores, so you can lay on it and feel it out before you even buy one. Plus you try it for 100 nights free.

You sleep on a grid that sits on a foam layer. The grid is great for those that sleep hot as the heat isnt trapped in the material.

You buy a firm box spring mattress which should last you years.

You then buy a separate memory foam mattresses topper, 3 inches thickness is ideal. You replace this every 6 to 12 months.

You'll never have back problems because of bed mattress ever again.

Makes sense. Seems the worst is when the entire mattress is foam.

Purple Mattress (all-foam)
Purple Hybrid (foam and coils)
Purple Hybrid Premier (foam and coils)

So far no feedback on the Sleep Number mattress.

I guess bed prices are not following CIP inflation curve.
All those flashy brands and NASA technology crap is consumerism at its finest.
Traditional coil beds are way to go for me
My late brother owned an expensive swedish brand with all the marketing yada yada, he hated it.

Mattress industry is a scam. You can't really tell if the mattress is comfortable from lying on it for 15 minutes. You could try seeing what mattress in a hotel but they change their names.

See if you can find a guy to make you one. They do make custom mattresses for less than most commercial ones and will adjust springs etc. Most places will be happy to talk your ear off about the mattress details as well.

Anyone that buys a mattress from Costco say they are happy with the mattress. They are cheap too compared to the rip offs of luxury mattress stores. There are hundreds of mattress companies but truth be told most are manufactured in the same two factories. They slap different labels on them. Just like the different whey protein products that source their whey from the same companies.

I've heard this as well.  Regarding both the Costco and the whey comments.

Costco is actually gaining a great reputation for "their" products that are made by other companies.  From mattresses to vitamins to hearing aids, their customers seem to be very happy.

I was in Vegas and knew I was leaving for NC in like a month

had to get a bed to sleep on for 4 weeks

went to Walmart and purchased a memory foam mattress for a few hundred bucks - it was in a box that had a handle and wheels

rolled the sombitch right out to my car and it fit in the backseat of the Altima

thing was mint, just threw it on the floor but my shoulders and hips loosened up - I was sleeping in the king size soft ass mattress staying with this female , made my shoulders all tight prob had dents in it from the onlyfans content

It is a shame one can't identify the manufacturer of mattresses in fine Hotels. Some are extremely comfortable. As for the 15 minute tryout, I agree with you. Many companies are allowing returns and exchanges for up to 100 days. Unfortunately, most of us don't take advantage of this because it's a bit of a hassle. It also doesn't account for the fact that some mattresses don't break down for several years. I was surprised to look up the invoice on the one I currently have and find out it is only 8 years old. It been broken down for several years. Even my 13 lb. Rat Terrier leaves a dent in it after sleeping in the same spot of a couple of hours. The pillow top seems to have lost it's loft.

Having one made is a great idea. Wouldn't the components still be similar? How many different types of mattresses are there? There are the standard spring with padding type, hybrid with foam padding, Latex and all foam mattresses. Other than that, if someone wanted a special size, custom would be the way to go.

If I wait a month or so, there will be other good sales. Around the holidays, people tend to not buy big ticket items. Traditionally furniture sales are in January. Like with so many things, black Friday has become a joke where people think they are getting a deal because they are told so and not because actually are.

I've been checking out the Purple, if you read people's reviews, they are pretty mixed.

I've been checking Costco's website. Their TempurPedic mattresses are not cheap. However, it has been my experience that products made for Costco actually tend to be better quality than the same brands in stores. One thing about TempurPedic is that with some of models you wait 90 days for delivery. They must not manufacture the mattress until it is ordered.

Please provide a mattress review, or any product, that doesn’t have mixed reviews. And buy that.

You asked for advice, on a site you daily interact with people on, multiple people offered mattresses that they’ve purchased and like and you tell them what the google reviews you read say.

This behavior is why many dislike you here.

You don’t really want advice, you want Getbig to know you’re looking for a new mattress. We don’t care.

Not poor, just cheap. Add to the price of that mattress, I want an adjustable base (like a hospital bed)...maybe with massage. And since I am going from a king to a queen mattress, I need a new bed to put it on. The one I like from Room and Board is almost $3K. So yeah, this is turning into a $10K purchase by the time I get all the components.

With a 15-20% "restocking fee" and another fee for them to come pick the mattress up.  Like I said in an earlier post, my gf just went through this 5 weeks ago.  AmEx loves her and let Macy's know right it it was going back for a full refund or else she was getting rid of it herself and still getting a full refund back with a chargeback by them.  Most cc wouldn't have stepped up like this.

Many different types. Most people like memory foam mattresses but I don't sleep well on them. If you want the adjustable incline etc then an independent manufacturer probably isn't the way to go. If you want a traditional inner spring coil mattress I'd definitely go with a custom built one. Just look them up and go to their factory/warehouse. They'll talk your ear off about all the different types, gauges of wire they use to make the coils and all that, and they'll make one to suit you. I've had serta/sterns foster/memory foam and all that before and this custom one for half the price that I have now sleeps better than the others. For memory foam types I can't recommend anything because I don't sleep well on any of them.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out.

Just so you know, your homophobic comments were unnecessary and irrelevant.

Why not? They're not cheap though at about $3 to $4 G's.

most of these companies have a try if you buy option, i have a dreamcloud premier, i think it was $1200. all of the box mattress are pretty much the same(casper, nectar, dreamcloud ect) i think purple is a step above tho

I wonder how a $1200 mattress compares to a $600 mattress from Costco if no one told you the price or where it was sold?

If you lie in your bed you must make it.

I'll bet not much different at all.

Probably a diminishing amount of improvement as price increases.

Maybe like cars.  A Cadillac is just a Chevy with more gilt.

I can beat that! I have (3)  10" memory foam Tempurpedic knockoffs from Aldi (under $200 ea.), one King, one Queen, one twin, reused the original box .  All over 4 years.  They're all still like new in terms of firm comfort, flipping 2-3 times a year in various directions.  The guest room ones are always complimented.  Aldi has them available right now.  It's their "Huntington" brand.

Sorry that happened. My wife and I love ours and it was worth every dime.

Interestingly enough, my current mattress is a Sterns and Foster.

Best I've ever had. Just update and get a new one.

I'm not because it isn't relevant. What difference does his sexual preference, which I believe is bisexual, and the fact that he has HIV, likely undetectable, make to me? I am not interested in sexual relations with him nor I suspect is he with me.

There is still a chance you have sucked him off at a glory hole

Of course it’s relevant I wouldn’t even want someone with aids in my house never mind bed

Not really. You seem to really like talking about glory holes....guess that means there's a major chance you sucked him and many others off or they fucked you through them. The main thing is this, do you enjoy it? I guessing you do.

I would except this one is only 8 years old and it has developed body depressions before it was 2 years old. Now you might think at my age, if a mattress lasts a couple of years that should do it since I may not last another couple of years. LOL! I prefer to be more optimistic.

Looks like I am going with an all natural mattress from Room and Board. Hybrid, latex with a spring core and wool top layer. They also have an uncomplicated adjustable bed and a bedstead I like. I couldn't use this bedstead with the sleep number bed because of the drawers. The extra storage is a real plus. Wasn't sure about the oak verses walnut. That I don't have to wait several months for the bedstead in walnut swayed me toward the oak. Now I think I actually like it better. The bedroom window faces north so the room can be a bit dark except on very sunny days. Last thing to pick is a rug. If I find one I like at Room and Board, everything gets delivered and set up at once for a onetime charge of $80.

If you make your bed you must lie in it.
Not if you sleep on the couch.

Looks like a potential guest room at Basile's house.  You're likely to wake up and see him pleasuring himself whilst in that chair.  More comfortable than a breezeway given his advanced years.
