Calling bull shit on this. Come clean and say how many sets? Even then it would be hard to believe. One hundred reps with 275 lbs? Put up a video of you doing 50 reps with that weight and I will give you the benefit of the doubt that you got 100 reps.
-

I think he meant total reps, over a number of sets.

So maybe ten sets of ten reps with 275lbs and he did all the other exercises listed the same day?

First off, you look amazing.
Secondly, I'm turning 40 on Tuesday, so I think I'll try this workout:
255 x 100 squat
315 x 100 deadlift
125 x 100 overhead press
180 x 100 dumbbell bench
^ K wait, wut.
If I recall correctly, in one of the Bros vs. Pros deadlift contests, Toney Freeman deadlifted 275 for about 32 reps, weighing 275 [deadlift body weight challenge].
The True Adonis once claimed to deadlift 225 for 113 reps, and everyone called bullshit.
That was back in 2006.
Personally, I think you look amazing [I'm surprised you don't shave your body hair being that ripped - just to show your muscle definition, which you obviously have lots of].
Now I see you did that over a number of sets.
Hmm...I'm tempted to do the same workout you did.
I wouldn't be looking forward to 100 reps with 315 on the DL though...the max I ever got was 315 for 17, I think.
Maybe I could try that with 250...or just do 275 like you did.
How are you feeling after this workout?
That workout seems to be more work than a typical Strongman contest. So congratulations for making it through it in a relatively short time frame.
Being older, and going for 40 tons...maybe I'll shoot for doing a 40-ton workout in five hours.
Your post has inspired me.

Looking good dude .. impressive “work capacity” :o

Thanks my neuro-atypical friend. Im glad to hear you are up for a similar feat. I feel pretty good, it was actually easier than I was expecting. I did a couple 100 and 150 rep squat workouts with 225 to prepare in the preceding months, and honestly the 150 was harder. I had a hard time falling asleep that night, and thought I may have contracted the dreaded "rhabdo" (oh brother).
I made sure to take it easy yesterday and the day prior (no running). That helped a lot! Ordinarily I am more stiff due to running.
I would say shoot for 60-70% of your 1RM when choosing the weights. Anything less than that would probably be too easy. You might also want to pick a 5th exercise, since you have more tonnage to do. Or do more reps at a lower weight per exercise.
I hope I can do 40 tons when Im your age! Happy upcoming birthday!

cess - f'n awesome man.
Big props - looking great.
Feels like the deadlifts would be the hardest, form breaks at higher reps/fatigue.
Just going by the weight you listed.

thanks grape! squats is the hardest for me... Its always been an unnatural motion for me, since day one. For whatever reason, im good at deadlifts.
hope the y board is treating you well.
Also thank you, never1ashow!

Back in the 1990's there was a guy at Golds Gym Venice that would lift 1,000,000 pounds each year on his birthday.
Late 40's. Just a fitness/exercise nut job.
Showed up at 4am when the joint opened and finished his "million pounds" around 9 pm I seem to recall.
Wrote down every set. Lots of stuff like...
Angled leg press 300 x 30
Low pulley rows 150 x 20
Standing calve raises 350 x 10
For the week afterwards he would walk around showing people his workout book. Nice enough guy.

I DO NOT BELEIVE THOSE NUMBERS WITH THOSE REPS UNLESS IT TOOK HIM A MONTH.
I didnt read the thread so I apologize if I was a tool and ut was true

Haha... these days I eat about 3500 calories per day, I guess. I don't really count anymore. I try to get 1000 active calories each day on my watch. I work out way less than I used to, that's for sure. A typical workout is 50-100 working reps on a main exercise, a half-assed secondary exercised, and some abs. Takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. I do that three days on, one day off.
Jason Statham lowered the dose.
How's it going, Shizzo? Sober?

Thanks rob, actually wasn't that bad... just grueling.

Thanks PV. These days I can't make many new PRs, but it's still fun to make random challenges once in a while.

If by "in a few years," you mean, "since my early 20s," I agree. Can you recommend some joint-sparing workouts? I've had to get creative in my old age. During the "pandemic" I stopped working out at the gym for a year, just did bodyweight exercises in the park, with some bands and kettlebells at home, now and then. To my surprise, I didn't lose any strength! Within two or three weeks back in the gym, I was stronger than I had been. I guess I'm probably a chronic "overtrainer".
Great Job ‼️‼️
Thank you, Royalty.
what a waste of fucking time
Merry Christmas!
Looking awesome and healthy mate hope the health issues are well in the past
Thanks Henda. Hope you're doing well, too.
looking good
Thanks FF! never thought I would show up with Sev and Tbombz. I guess we're all destined for memehood at some point.

Thanks cephissus! But it was shockingly hard, and I failed it pretty badly. However, I am confident that one workout alone will make me that much more likely to finish it next time. :)
Our birthdays are so close, that I decided to try to copy you on the fly without adequate rest. My chest was not recovered from a heavy workout just prior to trying my hand at your workout.
That being said...I am 100% certain I would have missed no matter what.
I'm glad I tried it though - because it made me realize how much I regressed due to the gym closures we had here in Canada. :-\
I'm not sure why anyone would say this workout is a waste of time - of course this workout isn't a typical workout. That's the point! But man...did I ever realize how out of shape I am in some ways.
It's all a trade-off: if we want to be our leanest, we lose strength. If we want to be our strongest, we lose speed, etc.
I like the idea of doing your challenge, because I think it's one good indicator of overall fitness, IMO.
I know it's unconventional - but I HIGHLY received other Getbiggers give it a shot! :)
Out of curiosity, are you in that condition year 'round?
-
what a waste of fucking time
No kidding.

cephissus, do you still live rent free with your boyfriend, in exchange for cooking for him? :D
He has to throw up the sperm since it’s “too many daily calories” for him.
-
Can you recommend some joint-sparing workouts
Follow F.Zane advice
my gym is now full of great machines, there's free weights too but I just don't use them as much, especially barbells. My slogan is "Ifit hurts, don't do it", the anti-thesis to the popular bodybuilding maxim, "No pain, no gain". Pain is not a good word.

Looking forward to hear about Basile's 80 ton for 80 workout.

i dont think machines are any safer, sadly. these days, i'm thinking more and more of ways to reduce both lifting and running risks, though.

Out of curiosity, are you in that condition year 'round?
I'm sure you can get it next year, and I'm glad you got something out of the challenge! To prepare, I did about three 100+ rep workouts for squats, and maybe 2 for deadlifts, over a period of a month and a half or so. I also took it easy with a round of bodyweight workouts for a couple days prior to the workout.
Ever since I built back up from my "eating disorder" days about 6 or so years ago, I have been in the same shape year round, more or less. When it comes to working out, I might be "morbidly consistent".
Looking forward to hear about Basile's 80 ton for 80 workout.
Is he still among us? ;D

Angled leg press 300 x 30
Low pulley rows 150 x 20
Standing calve raises 350 x 10
For the week afterwards he would walk around showing people his workout book. Nice enough guy.
I attempted to keep up with the pace required to do this, and before hitting 7,000-lb, I was already slowing down a little.
I have no doubt I could find a way to make it work to hit 100,000-lb over a time frame that long...but a MILLION POUNDS??
Even doing angled leg presses at 300-lb per rep, assuming the leg press sled weighs 120-lb, that would be 2x 45-lb plates per side. Not that heavy...but that's 30 reps, to get to 9,000-lb, on the road to one million.
You would have to do 112 sets of that to reach one million pounds.
That's one set every 9 minutes 18 seconds for 17 hours straight, without taking breaks.
And you'd have to include the 30-rep set on that time.
I could likely finish 30 reps of a 2-plate per side angled leg press in one minute 18 seconds, with proper form, and do it again after a nine minute break, and then so again after another nine minutes.
And again.
And again.
And again.
But for 17 HOURS???
A 30-rep set of 2-plate per side angled leg press is not heavy...but 112 sets of that??? That's a lot.
Was the person The Father of The True Adonis?
I'm reminded of a post that Ron posted of a guy at the 2004 Arnold Classic who was doing something like lifting a 45-lb dumbbell overhead with one-arm [Circus Dumbbell form, possibly, but I can't recall, and i had no idea what the CDB was at that time], and would challenge others to lift it for more reps than him...and he ended up beating everyone.
It's been almost 18 years since that thread, so I can't remember who this guy was, and I have no way to search for him. Does anyone remember any of those details?
