I have been told there's that great big Gym in the Heavens, were you never have to wait your turn for the squat rack or bench press, and where the angels always wipe of their sweat from the seats. And where the Gym-music is automatically your own choice..

But I could be wrong..... :-\

Seems bodybuilding in its current state is leading to a much higher death rate than in the past. Or maybe it is just the result of more people doing it and the internet reporting it? Lots of football (soccer) guys dying too though.

What are these guys doing thats so different from the earlier generations? Bodybuilders used to be the picture of health. Guys like Beckles competing into their 60's, Mentzer and Ferrigno doing relatively well in those All Stars competitions on network television. They used to incorporate running, jumping rope and even swimming into working out.  It used to be called Physical Culture.  Now these guys are dropping off left and right. Is it the dirutetics and stimulants? Or megadosing? At this point why would anyone risk it? Its seems there's just as much money to be made as a "fitness influencer" with a strong social media following.

do we know if rec drugs are also in play with any of those who have passed away recently?

Everyone should have to turn pro naturally. It would eliminate the Palumbo's with shit genetics slamming the dose, thus forcing guys with elite genetics to slam the dose. No one outside of a small, hardcore fan base really cares about amateur contests anyway, the revenue comes from entry fees, and it would be exciting to then predict how elite, natural guys will blow up when they earn the right to use gear.

Here's Men's National Heavyweight winner Justin Shier, and he isn't even super Heavyweight, and he'll be told you need to put on dozens of lbs. of mass to go to the next level with the same or better conditioning. So what's a guy like Justin supposed to do? He already has to be slamming shit to look like that. And he'll have to up it to be a pro.

Strict natty testing to turn pro. Guys like Levrone, Ronnie, Kai, Jay, Dexter everybody knew they had it long before they ever touched steroids.  Guys will cheat anyway to pass the test but it will control the crazy shit.  Ban diuretics at amateur shows. Steroids don't kill overnight. It's the long term use. So why put these guys through years of abuse before they even know if they have a chance as a decent pro?
There are guys that try to turn pro for years like Meadows and by the time he turns pro and he's nearly in the grave.  For 10th place at the Toronto Pro 212 class as a pro?

This started when they started handing out pro cards like candy.

Guys who competed in the mid to late 80s when I started just took a bit of gear as an amateur, if they turned pro then they had a choice to make.

Nowadays when guys are juiced to the fucking maximum at low tier shows they dont have that choice, its carry on and fuck themselves up
