May be in the LA area in the next week. I know the muscle pit is long closed with Covid, but is it even worth it to wander around the boardwalk?
Are shops and restaurants pretty much shut down due to Omicorn?
-
NEVER, I can't respond to your Venice Beach interest, but if you are planing to do any driving ...... we just returned to Las Vegas from Los Angeles and the traffic conditions all the way home was horrendous with bumper to bumper, 5 mph, traffic all along the less than 300 mile route which took us nine hours to reach the bright lights of the Strip.
What made it worse .... we were driving at night.
So .... I don't recommend any long distance side-trips while you're in the LA area.

You can do it but it is a pretty weird place now with all the homeless.
Watch out for the guy who walks around with his dick hanging out.
Take a club to beat off the indigents.

How the hell are they still having the Rose Bowl and the Rose Parade? (I know the answer, Pasadena City has it's own health authority, but still I'm surprised it's still happening)
And the Holiday Bowl (UCLA v. NC State) is kicking off in San Diego in about 2 hours.

I remember during the summer of 1995 I went to visit Venice Beach for the first time (Holy fuck do I feel old stating that). Anyhow, I was walking down the boardwalk at night and it felt surreal. For those of you who live on the east coast and have ever been to NYC, think of what the Village (around West 4th street and LaGuardia) felt like at night during the late 90's and early 2000's. If you remember all the goth kids, gays/lesbians, odd balls and regular civilians that would just casually walk by and give the Village tons of character and a certain energy, well imagine all those same lights, sounds and types of people but on the west coast walking through a boardwalk at night. It was pretty fucking magical. There were a ton of boardwalk tattoo and pizza shops. Rock was still in during those times. I was very much into bodybuilding, as were most people back then.
I remember I had a fucking "CD player/walkman" I was listening to and had Alice in Chains "Rooster" playing at the highest possible volume. Walking those streets with this song playing as a soundtrack was fucking magical gentlemen. I don't know if those years/times during Venice Beach could ever be recreated. Add to that the fact that I took a few hits of Sativa prior to walking the boardwalk and holy shit was it great.

Thanks for the recommendation, it looks nice. May bring my skates too.
Hoping to pick up some free CDs from aspiring boardwalk musicians

Thanks to all who responded. Venice Boardwalk was back. Weight pit was closed but otherwise the bums were gone and the boardwalk and shops were pretty much back to normal.
Supposedly vaccine passports in restaurants required, but no one checked that I saw.

Great memories. I visited Venice Beach/SM many times before, during, and after '95. The first time I visited I asked various strangers where Arnold's building was - no one knew. I bought my first baggy pants from some vendor on the boardwalk. I could pass for a clown wearing those today. :D
I like the comparison to NYC's Village, though I left there for CA in '92.
And I only recently got into AIC.

Hahaha my buddy would drive around with a book of cds about that size. Craziness to think back shuffling thru for two hours to find a cd to play.
-
The CD stuff is just a panhandling scam. They give you a CD worth 2 cents hoping to beg a sawbuck or a finsky and reciprocity will make it more likely. The moonies did the same thing with those little flowers
