Here now, what a beautiful place. Here for a couples weekend, and am surprised at how clean the city is, and how good the food is. Also, if you were young and single, this would be the place I’d be. Much hot young trim here. Any daytime suggestions? We got dinners covered and have wandered around during the day. If you live here, good on you fellow Getbiggers.

Couldn't pay me enough to live in the Deep South. No offense to southern Getbiggers.

How could it be a good place to live? I don't know of any such place with those demographics that is remotely good to live.
Maybe for a weekend visit. That's about it.

Nice to visit. But after two weeks you would be bored out of your skull. Same with Savannah. It takes a special kind of dullard to live there year around and enjoy it.

Lol, no, a buddies 40th. I’m not into that kind of thing.

Totally agree, I think there is a warship memorial there and the old slave trade area that is now a market. It's been a while.

Was just in Atlanta. GF has a house down there that her mother left her. It was fine for a few days but no fucking way I would live there.
-
I was in Hilton Head last week. Spent a day in Charleston. Very cool place. Forgot where we ate but it was excellent and I can confirm that yes, the trim selection was plentiful.

I've been in Hilton Head all week. Leaving tomorrow.
Visited Charleston in the 1970s.

Charleston is fun. Go day drinking downtown. It's been a few years since I was there. I think it's Queen street that has the bars? There are a ton of nice restaurants as well.

Had a lot of good meals in Hilton Head. One of the restaurants had moonshine margaritas. Incredible!

For daytime drinking downtown, anywhere on King Street is great. Halls Chophouse is a great steak place on King Street. Hanks on Church Street is great for seafood. Shem Creek just over the bridge in Mount Pleasant is very scenic and great for drinking. Try Tavern and Table or Reds Icehouse. Take a carriage ride from Old South or one of the other companies. They are really interesting and you learn a lot about the city. Guided walking tours are fun too, they sell those tickets on the Market. Take a walk down Rainbow Row near the Battery on the peninsula to see some really nice old homes. And a tour of Middleton Place is pretty cool if you have time. It’s a very nice city. Plenty to do and see. Anyone saying it’s only good for a few days never got outside the touristy areas downtown. PM me if you need any more details, I hope you enjoy your time here!

Completely coincidentally, my news feed offered these two stories this morning
South Carolina now able to carry out firing-squad executions
The method was codified into state law last year because of the state’s inability to procure lethal injection drugs

South Carolina to execute death-row inmate by firing squad or electric chair
Barring a successful appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, Richard Bernard Moore will be put to death April 29 for the 1999 murder of a convenience store worker

I have a friend who has been transferred to a lot of different cities on her job. As different as they are, her two favorites were Chicago and Charleston. She said her co-workers in Charleston were genuinely friendly, and not false friendly which is often said of deep Southerners. I have always found Charleston to be one of the most beautiful cities in US but it surprised me somewhat to hear the friendly part.

The weather is actually the worst part to me. Sweltering heat and humidity in the summer with bugs the size of birds biting you and flying in your face. Then you've got tornadoes and hurricanes along with massive flooding and winters that are just cold enough to make you miserable but none of the beautiful snow for skiing, snow shooing and sled riding.

Yeah, I honestly hate my excessive amounts of freedom and prosperity in Florida

You forgot the alligators in the ponds that grab your dog or small child and eat them.
But really, that's very minor stuff.

Umm- not in Greenville, SC No bugs the size of birds, have seen one tornado in 10 years, no massive flooding, winters are perfect with most days not going below 40 degrees, etc.
I lived in central NY for many years and witnessed at least 5 tornadoes, ice storms, flooding multiple times every year, mosquitoes and black fly swarms nonstop and unless you live in the high peaks region, the snow conditions generally go from great for a week to muddy slush the next. I was a nordic ski racer and snowmobiler.
To each his own :)

Other than the heat, tornados and hurricanes are very uncommon. Winter is quite mild.
Of course, you can always wear a hat

Some of the big tech companies have opened up offices in Atlanta. Apparently they feel guilty about their lack of Black employees. Google and Facebook for all their equality bullshit are like 2% black.

Florida is not "The South"
North Florida is the south. South Florida is Cuba.
;D
-
Florida is not "The South"
I’d consider the majority of north Florida and central Florida the south excluding large metropolitan areas like Orlando and Jacksonville. Anywhere on the coasts by the beach is of course a different story. Florida is a large state, and I’ve doubt you been around any of the non-tourist areas.

I did a morning run in late March and the sweating level was similar that of July in the north east.

It's brutal in the summer. I actually love southern people as they are the friendliest people around it's just the climate that is a no go for me. Rocky mountain and desert states are my favorite.

There's a LOT of yankees moving to FL now, hopefully one summer and they'll be gone ;D

Depends on where you are. I'm in Ft Lauderdale and we are on the "curve" so to speak. While it does get hot, the ocean winds keep the humidity pushed out west and it is rather bearable. West coast of FL and Central FL though the humidity is awful.

Lurker, have you ever had to leave your home due to hurricane, etc?
Looking at winter-homes in FL, but wondering what area is the most "hurricane friendly" (less likely to be hit-hard).
I guess it might not matter as I will be there less than 6-months a year (winter) and can leave anytime, but this is something I think about before making decisions.
I suppose winter-time isnt really hurricane season either, but...

South Florida native here. Very few in my lifetime were worthy of evacuating. Annual Nor’easters and Texas freezing are worse than anything we’ve endured in the last 15+ years. I think my power was off for a day or so combined since then. That means we’re probably due. The media always overhypes it, creates madness and people act like retards. Imagine the initial Covid toilet paper craze, but with non-perishable foods, beverages and fuel. Common decency is temporarily thrown out the window. Get a turnkey CBS place, with a decent roof, impact windows and doors and you’re good to go

then you weren't in so fla during the summer of 2004

They’re moving for tax reasons. So if they do move back it’ll be because Florida is raised its taxes to New York State levels.
-

I was in Tallahassee during that time. I remember coming back weeks later to large trees still down. I know that was bad with the back to back storms. There’s a reason I said 15 years :D

Now? It’s always been that way. It’s just worse than ever though. They’re generally terrible drivers and even bigger assholes. Oh, and retarded voters.

I moved here in 2007 after university at the time of the housing market crash. Between then and 2009 is when I bought my house and two rental properties dirt cheap. I’ve never left in this time because of a hurricane. The last time I considered it was a few years ago. A lot of friends fled to Tampa and Atlanta to get out of the path. Of course it detoured and hit Atlanta way worse than anything here and all my friends that went there were stuck there for weeks. No power. No operating gas pumps to fuel up and come back. No restaurants open. Sucked for them. I can see why they fled but my house has impact windows, in ground propane generator that will power my house from 20-28 days depending on the usage, and is directly on the Intracoastal so I have access to flushable water and don’t have to use what’s in my pool. I have a gas and charcoal grill and a buddy that owns three taverns who will unload as much food on me that I want if we were threatened. I keep a stock of canned food and drinks (meaning alcoholic LOL) and have 2 WaterBobs that are 100 gallons each for drinking water. So I am pretty set. As stated before the mere mention of a hurricane sends people running to the stores to empty the shelves of canned food, bottle water and toilet paper. I’ve never had to do that myself. Although I will get an early jump on filling my car up with gas and three 5 gallon containers. If the worst came I would just lock up and go stay with parents in GA until I could return.
Best thing to do is look for hurricane impact windows and an easy alternative place to stay away from the area that doesn’t include using the airport.

Obviously he has been breathing too many of his moped fumes or face planted off his little skateboard one too many times.
It's cute how he thinks Straw and I are 240. He is OBSESSED with 240. If he ever met 240 in real life, he would be trying to suck 240's dick before 240 could get his zipper down.

While you're in the Charleston area, also be sure to check out the Isle of Palms and the nearby Magnolia Plantation. Hurricane Hugo devastated both in '89, but after 30 years of recovery, I bet they're great places to visit again.
