I lived on a carrier at the Newport News shipyard and had to deal with some similar shit when living onboard. Welding, grinding, needle scaling, painting, etc. in the berthing areas. Zero privacy. The navy could have put us up in hotels, but no, we had to suck it up and deal with it.
Junior guys stood fire watch: sit around for hours to watch welders make sparks.

Seven Navy sailors assigned to the USS George Washington have died by suicide during the time the aircraft carrier has been undergoing a yearslong overhaul in Newport News, Virginia, the Navy said Thursday.
The Navy acknowledged Thursday that in addition to the four suicides in the past year that CBS News has reported, three more sailors assigned to the carrier died by suicide in 2019 and 2020.
The three suicides from 2019 and 2020 occurred while the USS George Washington was under the command of Capt. Kenneth Strong. According to the Navy, Strong left the ship three months ahead of schedule because of "individual incidents of poor judgment and leadership acumen." Despite his early departure, Strong was awarded a Legion of Merit for, among other things, winning a score of 98% on the 2019 Safety and Occupational Health Management Evaluation.

Are you saying it’s the environment of being inside a large metal container for months on end, or do you think there’s a chemical poisoning aspect that’s distorting peoples minds?

LOL!
Prisoners have better living conditions than what I and many others capriciously experienced in the military - sometimes for weeks. You join the navy, so you serve the needs of the navy (or whatever branch you joined).

He left with bad feelings, didn't he?

Navy Mike was collecting disability from the navy for a leg injury I believe but was exposed when he posted a video doing heavy leg presses. He got a lot of shit from that and left shortly after. He had a decent physique though and his girl was pretty hot.

When my ship went into the yards there, I had to stay on that birthing barge for over two years, until my orders were up. As you know, it's no fun, living on a giant tuna can.
As you also know, that part of Newport News is almost smack dab in the hood. We had contractors getting robbed on a regular. Until you get near Patrick Henry Mall and beyond (towards Williamsburg and Jamestown), it's straight up ghetto.

Part of the job I’m afraid. I was a Junior Rating (like 16 when I went in) in the Royal Navy and that was life when alongside. We only got put up in barracks when the ships went into dry dock. I did 6 years and thought this shit isn’t for me. I wish I’dve stayed in and got a specialist job, like a becoming a clearance diver or something, as there are really interesting jobs for people who want to do something different.
With the size and diversity of employment within USN, I imagine the scope to get a more interesting career within it would be vast.

I get it.
For a loner type, such an environment and expectation is psychological hell.

Gee, you never hear this stuff mentioned on those recruiting commercials.😉

He was a good dude who actually lifted but of course the peanut gallery here had to chase him away ::)
-
Are these suicides statistically different than for the same number of people in civilian life ? I have no idea the amount of folks that remain on a carrier when it’s docked. I imagine it’s significant

Was he not exposed by a random picture he posted which had his car in the background, and someone noticed a disability badge?
The heavy pressing stuff was already out in the open before the disability stuff was exposed.

I don’t remember if it was discovered or if it was because he “proudly” revealed his disability. He stuck around for a while because it seemed like every time he posted someone posted his leg press photo with a handicap pass hanging on the leg press.
He didn’t better with the disability than he did with the $20k in his bank account comments.

I don’t remember exactly how it came out. You may be right. He also got a bunch of shit about his front lawn because it looked terrible. :D

Too much Buggery in the Navy. Clean white crisp uniforms :D
-
Can't find the lawn. Might have been a youtube video that's been deleted. Found the gf. Exceptional glutes

Wasn't navy mike the one that posted pics of his savings account?
-
You get locked up with a bunch of dudes for months on end I'm sure it gets to you, if it there were lots of women there, for instance a cruise ship (shout out to Go4It) I bet it would be a completely different scenario.

There's a reason why once these sailors get to a port, they have sex with as many prostitutes as possible before the ship sets sail again.

Once the ship sails they have sex with each other.
