Wiggs used to talk about him being the greatest Mr Olympia of all time, and I think he's correct. Dominated the field for 8 years, consistently great physique, no scandals or depravity to speak of. Voluntarily stopped competing at the peak, didnt hang on too long afterwards. I dont think there were any controversial victories either but one of the bodybuilding historians here may correct me.
the only weak points were weird abs and MAYBE smallish biceps. The biceps had great shape and looked good in FDB but disappeared in side tri, BDB, etc. but he was the last and biggest Mr O with a v-taper, and could still do a vacuum.
The epitome of mass with class.

This is one of the definitions of voluntary.

Yes and to this day he still is. In physique and in how he has moved in his life.

he's right, i phrased it poorly.
Haney retired as a personal decision, not because of his body failing him or because he couldnt win anymore. He left on top and didnt look back. Contrast that w Yates and Coleman, two other contenders for GOAT

Speak of the devil ;D i scoffed at your claims at the time but i realize you were 100% correct.
a question for all: would Haney have beaten Yates in 92?

Good question. I think he could have. He would have to change his leg training and get bigger. His conditioning is fine. If he wanted to he could have.

Haney was a great bodybuilder but I think he retired at the right time...Dorian came back with a massive back. Haney would have definitely lost in 92 to dorain
-
He is. In a class of his own. I have met him several times and he is so incredibly knowledgeable. It is a shame that he has disappeared from the scene basically. He has a ton to share.
-
Not a fan of Haney but that does not mean he isn't one of the all time best.
I still think Arnold is the top dog and Haney is maybe 3rd or 4th but after all, this is a very subjective hobby.

Wholeheartedly agree with one asterisk- Rhoden had the taper and could do a vacuum. Thought the O was turning around when he won but nope, right back to bloated oil filled freaks.

Don't think Rhoden ever hit a vacuum, I definitely never saw it on stage. He did have a near perfect waist in the early 2010s, but closer to his O win he had from some lower abdominal distension.
As for bloated oil freaks, well go look at Rhodens arms..

If Lee had upped the dose to the current standards, he probably could have outmassed Ronnie.

All things considered, (so far) Lee is the greatest Mr. Olympia.
I’ve had the pleasure to spend some time with the man. He’s an incredibly friendly, polite and likeable fella.

GOAT!

Competing for 10 years as a pro is considered getting out "early"?

haney was a bad mother fucker

Lol who cares whether it was 10 years as pro or an amateur. He was like 24 years old when he won his first Sandow. Amateurs back then were taking the same shit and the same amounts. Retiring at 31 is getting out early. You run into far less health problems doing what he did under the age of 35. Especially compared to today’s guys never cycling off and competing for 20+ years as amateurs and pros (like that even matters)

Speaking 100% honestly? I think so - 2 reasons - 1 legitimate, the other less so
1 - Quad mass - to see Yates do that quad wobble thing from the first couple of rows of a show was truly shocking - it was like the muscles were under cling-film (saran wrap??)
2 - He was white, and Joe always preferred white chocolate ;)

Haney? Pffffft!!
Haney was gifted a few times, more than Dickerson or Columbu to be honest. As I said before, I think, not feeeeeel that Weider gave Haney 8 Olympias to show Arnold who was "boss". It didn't work.
Yates was gifted a couple too. Dickerson should never have placed top three let alone win. It is all subjective. I just don't think that much of Haney's physique and I also think he is as full of crap (if not more) as most competitors are at that level or close to it. And Coleman? Waste of drugs. He is a total fukin' moron.
