Holy sh*t!!
Maybe Louisiana's own Dustin Poirier can finally become a UFC world champion.
So what happens now...I'm not sure if Justin Gaethje [who has the same voice as Layne Norton] will be the champion if he wins. I think he would be.
But if Oliveira wins...he'd have to fight another guy to win the belt?
If Oliveira wins...could that produce a rematch with Poirier for the vacated belt?
It's a bit frustrating for Poirier to be so close to the title but not win.
I'd like to see him take the belt home to Louisiana.

I don’t watch, but if he has the same voice as Layne Norton, I hope I never hear one of his post-fight interviews. 2nd most annoying voice in the industry next to Greg Douchette

If Justin wins he is the champ. If Charles wins he will be the number one contender for the vacant belt.
Porier is trash and past his prime in the LW division.
Apparently, there was an issue with the fighter scale prior to stepping on stage.

On Saturday night, upon the start of their match, Oliveira will forfeit the belt. If Oliveira wins the match, he will be the number one contender for the vacant lightweight championship and will fight the next challenger for the undisputed title belt.
Justin Gaethje is still eligible to win the belt on Saturday night. If Gaethje loses, I believe he will still receive a percentage of Oliveira's purse.

If I'm not mistaken...the oldest ever UFC lightweight champion was Sean Sherk, who won the title in 2005...I think aged 32 and a bit.
Possibly 33 and a bit, but I think 32.
Poirier just turned 33 in January, if I'm not mistaken...so technically, that would make him the oldest UFC lightweight champion in the world.
I think Oliveira may be around the record for oldest lightweight too. Since Poirier and Oliveira are around the same age.
So for you to say Poirier is past his prime, I can understand.
But trash? Huh? Why is he trash? ???
Is it because Brian Shaw out-wrestled him last year?

So...I'm just thinking about what that does to the UFC lightweight timeline:
If Justin Gaethje wins...there would need to be an upcoming Poirier vs. Chandler [or something like that] pretty soon, and Gaethje would fight that winner...
Or...
Oliveira wins, doesn't get the belt, and then...
Oliveira fights the winner of Poirier vs. Chandler...or...possibly has a rematch with Gaethje, depending on how successful Gaethje was, or if it was a close decision, etc.
As an example of what should have led to an immediate rematch:
Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks after the controversial decision at UFC 167.
I was thinking this might be an advantage for Poirier...but either way, he'd be fighting the same fights:
Chandler next [possibly] then either lose and drop in the rankings, or win, and fight Gaethje for the belt, or rematch Oliveira.
I think Poirier stands a better chance of beating Gaethje in a rematch versus Oliveira in a rematch.
What say you?
PS - I watched Bloodsport last night. ;D

Perhaps they will give me the belt?

No clue what the outcome of this fight will do to the UFC timeline.
Dana and Shelby have a lot on their plates moving forward when it comes to this division.

Maybe not trash.. but the LW division is a stacked division he can't compete in anymore. I also think he said he will only fight money fights now.

Ah. Just wondering...as I wouldn't say Poirier is trash.
Shame if his best years are over now. I know he really wanted that belt.

In other words it makes no difference he is in the main event championship fight this card and will be on the next card again if he wins just like he would be if he wasn't stripped. He wont be fighting for the belt next time if he loses just like if he hadnt been stripped and lost. Nothing to see here folks just smoke and mirrors

The fight's starting now!
Looking forward to seeing how it goes.

That escalated quickly...

Charles Oliveira wins, first round submission. Impressive.

Tell me about it. Especially given that Justin Gaethje split his head open almost immediately, and Charles Oliveira seemed to go to the ground twice, not from knockdowns [I don't think], but from seemingly being concerned about the damage he was taking by keeping it on his feet. I think Oliveira was trying to bait Gaethje to the ground, but he didn't take the bait.
Oliveira is the champion - no doubt about that. And he proved that again tonight - and fast.
In the buildup to the fight, Gaethje was underestimating Oliveira. That was a massive mistake. This guy is the champion for a reason. His Brazilian jiu-jitsu is next level - he may not be the hardest striker, and may not be that sturdy, but Oliveira's ground game is next level.
Shame about the weigh-in...but without question, Oliveira is the best 155-lb fighter in the world right now.

No excuse for a pro to not make weight.

As an aside, how does Chandler pass drug tests?
Brutal KO, btw. So, ya wanna be a MMA fighter?

So many people talking about the scales being manipulated where even Dana White says something went on with the scales. Oliveria should pull a 2001 Jay Cutler(where Jay tested positive for diuretics) and Lawyer up. Shawn Ray made a mistake not lawyering up after he tested positive in the 1990 Arnold classic giving up his prize money I highly doubt the UFC or the promotion want to see so many witnesses talking about the scales being F'd with. How much money is Oliveira going to lose in his next fight because he want be getting champ money and PPVs? At the very least, if the scales were f'd with, and the UFC knows this, they should at least let Oliveria keep his pay scale in the next fight even though he's stripped of the title.

Great point Dana didn’t say anything bad about Olivera so I don’t think he is in the UFC’s dog house
This guy is on a tear he will bend Connor over and give him some Brazilian tube steak would love to see him fight that Muslim piece of trash khabib

Doesn't change the fact that she's a boss bitch.

The Oliviera train comes off the tracks if Dana does the right thing and gives Makachev the next shot.
