Does anyone know if the new York Olympic bars & plates are US made or in China?
Plates have all been made in China for quite some time.
Some of the bars are made in a foundry in Canada.
Crafted with USA steel? Sure, from scrap shipped to China.

India does a lot too.

York had a place in Canada for a while, but I believe its all made in China these days.
Though I havent kept up with that stuff like I used to, Funk probably knows for sure.
Im guessing China.
You want a nice hand-made bar, made in the US? The Texas Power bars are amazing. I bought a deadlift bar during the RONA and had it shipped to me.
https://texaspowerbars.com/
Of course Rogue makes their own bard and equipment in OH.

Yes i was looking but some want ridiculous prices. Iron is iron but York is the King of lifting iron. :)

York foundry closed decades ago.
The company basically went bankrupt. A guy from Canada bought the York name and museum.
You would be crazy to pay what people ask for old York stuff.

York has plates made in low cost Asia like most other mfgs.
There are few foundries in America left.
There is no magic in a weight plate within reason.
You won't get any stronger lifting a USA made plate.
A good quality bar is another matter. You can get a very good bar for around $300.

true but cheap plates will hinder the weight even if a Bar is good, not that i am a pro so not a big deal.

I have cheap iron plates and they have never hindered the weight.
For competition you need accurate plates but for a home gym not important.
For bumper plates you want quality or they won't last.
Most commercial gyms use cheap cast iron plates made in Asia.

York has a great history, and their old stuff was great (milled plates, etc). I have 2 York power-bars from the 70's, and tons of milled plates. (2 complete sets, plus).
However, Ivanko, Texas Power, (I dare say Rogue) and others are just as good or even better now. (Nothing tops my TX bar as far as the things I own are concerned).
And I have old York, Eleiko, etc.
For 285.00 a TX Power bar is hard to beat.

The most accurate plates I have are these Ivanko's, I mean dead-on! The Yorks are pretty close.
I got 12 of these 45's on Craigslist many years ago for 200.00, a steal. (Of course I painted them black, I hate grey plates in my gym).

I like how all the body parts are listed overhead. Was arms also written above the rack so people could curl in it?
;D

Tom Lincir got old, and Rogue caught everyone by surprise:(.
York might still have still have a few US or Canada made plates, but they're the high end grip plates.

nope the racks are at the far end and in the corner of the building in the leg section. one of the few gyms that actually have 200 lb dbs not that I would ever use them at my age :'( :'( :'( :'( there's mostly for 2 members who can actually handle them.
-
Yeah like i wrote i heard some things about it moving to canada was just not sure if china was involved.
I have york plates 45lbs and 25lbs all stamped with "Canada". These were purchased about 20 years ago though

a lot of barbell companies used different foundries to cast their plates. I lived 5 miles from one of the ones that billard barbell used. I would buy the unpainted weights for 15 cents a lb. I should have stocked up more way back then.
-
still look not bad for the price.
-
not like the old split sleeve bars from York
-
-
Big ball "Globes" ;D
-
I have some York bars, dumbbells, and plates that were definitely made in China. They are very heavy duty and high quality, but not perfect. I do like the York products that are made in China.
I have 2 older York Power Bars that were made at York PA in the 1990’s. They are exceptional.

The older bars are class and well made for the price back in the day. Going to look
and see if i can buy an old bar. I notice most of the older bars were not chrome but just plain feather steel.
I have also seen some impressive weight put on a York 1" Bar too... ;D saw a video of some dude squatting a decent weight with a 1" Bar. was a York or Weider Bar.
-
just don´t make Bars like this anymore. :'(
-
I have 6 York 45 pound plates made in USA....wish they were the deep dish ones.

If you can find a decent standard bar, it doesn't make that much of a difference unless you're actually doing the olympic lifts. Standard bar might even be more interesting sometimes because lifting on them has a deader feel.
