Question for the guys with competition experience (Wes, Joswift, Coach et al.. )
Whats better for building muscle while staying relatively lean?
Low carb or low fat.
I love low carb but always look stringy and struggle to put on muscle.
Old school guys were all steak, eggs, cottage cheese and heavy cream.
80s guys were all chicken breast and rice. Or tuna fish and yams.
If one were looking to get into peak condition, hypothetically for a show, which is the better way to go?
Thanks in advance for your expertise.
I posted this in another thread but Bhanks soiled it with his masterclass in retard bodybuilding 101.
If he chimes in here, please ignore. Im actually looking for- and appreciative of - useful information.
Thanks.

Determine calories then 45/40/15 adjust from there

Excuse my lack of knowledge here but you're saying 45 % protein 40 % fats and 15 % carbs ?
Thanks Coach

I have always had success with mod carb and some cardio helps keep the appetite in check.
Also, on non training days I drop my carbs and calories.
I get flat stringy on low carb but do a refeed on Sunday.
It’s a Chad Nicols approach.. deplete all week then refeed Sunday.

As you get closer to the contest what do you cut? Carbs?

I personally don't like going as low as Joe. Not saying his advice is bad. I like more in the range of 25 - 30% depending on the day.
I keep protein about the same and cycle carbs and fat accordingly.
Non training, carb about 225, fats about 90
Light training, carbs about 335, fats about 70
Moderate training, carbs about 415, fats about 60
I do like how Renaissance periodization sets up their meals. They don't have a crossfit type of diet (yeah, I know, I am one of those douche bags) but they do give a nice breakdown of how to eat depending on what type of training day it is and when you train. I built my own excel sheet where I put the food in, then the quantity and it calculates everything. I just put in the pro/carb/fat I want for each day.

Fats get dropped first me avocados get dropped than usually whole eggs.
Then carbs
Usually finally 4 weeks I’m about 25 grams of carbs from half a cup of oatmeal.

Bhanks, professor, retard bodybuilding 101.
Todays class: debunking the myth of high blood pressure.
Is bio identical gear the same as being natural?
Sodium: you can never have enough
Systolic/diastolic blood pressure in the age of misinformation.
And finally : is peach cobbler anabolic?
Bhank, for the love of god, don't pollute this thread with your horse shit. You're so mercifully free of the ravages of intelligence. Go bully a geriatric patient. Stick with what you know.

Hey bitch, shave that pussy

For those that responded thank you.
So what im understanding is 45/40/15 or maybe even 45 /35/30 depending on training and metabolism.
So the no fat or no carbs is not realistic? Its more moderate than that?

Me too.

It's what Bhanks calls a pre-workout.

best condition I got in was 96, for that I was eating a high carb breakfast and then tuna potatoes and chicken breasts
If you go low carb yes you can get flat because of the drop in glycogen but that stops once you start using fats for energy
Also keep the sodium up , that well help with pumps and fullness.
Although I will say sometimes the harder you try the worse you look.
Just look how many guys look better two weeks out than they do show day, also a couple days later.

The no fat / carb thing is unrealistic in my opinion. Mike Isreatel has a very good video on protein requirements (dispels the bro science stuff too) that you want to look for on youtube.

The hardest part of my prep was in the depletion phase which started a week before before my show and loading started on Wednesday before weigh ins. But for the 19 weeks prior was damn near a cake walk. I was having 2 large cheat meals a week up until two weeks before the show. I was literally ready to step on stage a month out
