Found out an old mate of mine passed away suddenly last week. His name was Cam.
Cam was a big framed guy who looked awesome in a tank top. Big shoulders and arms, good calves - the sort of guy who just takes up space. A few of us convinced him to enter a local bodybuilding event. He baulked but he looked so impressive in the gym we kept on at him and eventually he warmed to the idea.
Got himself motivated. Trained like a demon. Looked like he got even bigger.
Contest day, Cam hits the stage and we all think "Oh shit...we fucked up."
Have you ever seen 'small' muscles on a large frame? That was Cam. All the wrong insertions. High narrow chest. High lats. Big blocky waist. He even had high insertions on his forearms. Full credit to him for getting in shape - but his shape just wasn't good. He came second last in the novice class, losing to smaller guys with better flow. Beat the fatty in last position.
He was disappointed but was back in the gym the week after.
I'm sad he's gone. He was a good bloke, and training in the gym in his tank top he looked amazing.
Who have you known that you thought should have looked great but was just put together wrong?

Reminds bit of Mike Matarazzo
He was wide, had humongous delt, arms and calves.
But had wide waist, high lats, lacked back thickness and his chest was mediocre.

Dennis James always looked better in a tank top but was still fucking great/huge.

I wish I could show you this guy from my gym. Monstrous in the gym, very much pro size. On stage it looks like he loses 100lbs. Quite amazing. Looks about 180lbs in contest pics, looks and is 280lbs in the gym.

The camera loves some people.
They become the superstar actors in Hollywood.
In person they are nothing special.
Some people are just put together right for bodybuilding. Their physique pops on stage.

X2. No one looked better in x weeks out pictures.
But his stage presence was really underwhelming when compared to his tank top pictures.

You live in the United Kingdom?
RIP to your friend. I know exactly what you mean by big frame, but not great insertions.
Dennis James made a great tank top Mr. Olympia in the 2002 BFTO video.

Aussie living in Germany.
Someone posted photos of Jim Quinn. That was more along the lines of what my mate was built like. Imagine Jim Quinn (with less size), same frame and shittier insertions. That was Cam.

Big Paul was huge at Golds in 1992. Everyone figured he was the next Mr Olympia.
