What the hell happened to EAS? I remember back in the day they were the shit, my first ever supplement was Phosphagen, I remember taking it with a friend of mine. We hid it in my friends garage, took it everyday with grape juice over the course of the summer I put on 20lbs, my buddy put on 22lbs, we came back senior year of high school and everyone was saying we were on steroids. We literally trained everyday over the summer, the recovery ability at that age was incredible. Anyway I was just talking with my buddy and we were talking about those days. I decided to check out EAS to see what's going on with them and I saw this.

Abbott Labs (Ensure, Similac, etc....) bought them in the late 90's, and discontinued it about 5 years ago. I guess they didn't want to be in the bodybuilding market, as most of their lines are pushed to the medical or housewife market now. Before they discontinued it, it was being pushed as a budget supplement, for instance they were pushing to become Walmart's expensive line of supplements.
Edit - Seems HiTech bought the name a few months ago, and is trying to relaunch it -

Interesting, everything I used from them always seemed like good quality stuff.

I still got the old EAS booklet made by bill phillips almost 20 years ago

Brutal if true

I saw myoplex for sale recently. Think it was on DPS Nutritions website.

Your story sounds similar to mine. Only I used Phosphagen HP, the one that has dextrose and taste like Kool-Aid. I got the fruit punch kind. The first time I loaded with it (summer of 1996), I thought it was the second coming. 7 lbs in one week; 5 lbs the next. I went from 215 to 227.
I've often said that creatine is the crack cocaine of supplements. You get the biggest hit the first time you use it.
I still have the 1997 Sports Supplement Review book that my friend got me for Christmas 241/2 years ago. That was, of course, a shameless catalog for EAS supplements: Phosphagen (creatine); Phosphagain (milk & egg protein with creatine); Phosphagen HP (creatine with dextrose). They also sold HMB, glutamine, and CLA.
-
HI-Tech brought back Myo-Plex. Jared Wheat likes to buy companies that 'once were' on occasion (ALRI, etc).
I use that ALRI protein and its good. (HumaPro).
I just throw a scoop of it in my water bottle and bring it w/ me to gym. (Humapro, Creatine, HMB, Karbolyn).

I think i used it around the same time frame.
Definitely puts some water weight on you and makes you strong.
But creatine jacks up my stomach really bad, so i haven't used it in 15 years.

He made that company huge and then sold it.
-
I heard phosphagen was good

Which one, Phosphagen or Phosphagen HP?

No company was bigger than EAS in the mid to late nineties.

I remember Shannon Sharpe being sponsored by them for years. And of course the myoplex packets .
If you ever used a milos insulin protocol he recommended using Phospagen in the 90s

It was the HP.
Was very sweet but it definitely worked.

Muscle tech was right there with them in the late 90s and surpassed them in the early 2000s.

The grape one was my favorite. The first time I tried it, I used the fruit punch version. It costs me $60 back then. But, after those twelve pounds I added in a couple of weeks, I would've paid $600 for it.

Yeah, i used the fruit punch. It was expensive (bought at GNC) and i remember second guessing it because i was in college at the time. But my good friend who i trained with for a few years liked it so i tried it out.
I still remember the strength i got from it. All of my lifts went up quite a bit and i did gain some weight, just don't remember how much, but it was a noticeable improvement. I think it was around 15 pounds or so, but i was eating a lot at the time too. I still remember that sweet smell when you opened the container. Nothing else smells like that.
And of course, i've used Cell-Tech too in the early 2000's.
But i remember the EAS stuff working better. Maybe it was because it was my first experience with creatine? Not sure.

I read a few years ago that Abbott was coming out with a 30 gram protein Ensure and they only are guaranteed a certain amount of shelf space at stores so they discontinued EAS to make room for Ensure Max.

It was like EAS was the official supplement company of the Denver Broncos.

He said mid to late 90s. Obviously muscle tech surpassed eas, eas went out of business.

I think the real question is who would have thought Shannon would have entered the NFL HOF while his brother Sterling is still hoping to make the Packers ring of honor.

He was lucky to get switched from WR to TE his rookie year.

His middle name is "Not too"...
