Sets. The meta analysis shows that most gains are produced after 3 sets. 5 sets produces the most, but only slightly better than 3. There have been dozens of studies that confirmed what almost everyone was teaching in the 1930's on bodybuilding through trial and error.

I agree on 3 sets but also in the video they talk anbout rest times between sets. I think this is important because if you do say 2 all out sets as i do sometimes (no i´m not a Mentzer Guru) you need rest to hit that intensity. also multiple 6 day  workouts will only works with less sets & intensity
you see this in the Wes workouts, supersets, nice but not high muscle building intensity.

Intensity is % of 1 rep max but bodybuilders seem to think it's training "hard" or to failure. Training to failure is not optimal at all.

I think you are like most people & think straight away of Heavy Duty training & negative only reps..extended sets..etc  but the fact is buddy you need to have intensity to grow. Now Intensity is reaching muscular failure or pretty damn close. Depending on the weight this can be various reps.

your 1 rep max can vary from day to day

I day you may do 400 on the bench but then may not get 380 for the next two weeks

your muscles dont know what a 1 rep max is

I have no idea what my one rep max is because Im not risking injuring myself trying to find out

Tell that to the 80's Bulgarian weightlifting team. Olympic lifters and powerlifters use % of 1 rep max everyday in their training and don't have this problem.

Maybe you´re on the wrong forum, we are talking about muscle building here.. not big guts & 1x max deadlifts. nor are we in the 80s. Do or did 80s bulgarian weightlifters/powerlifters look like a Bodybuilder? sure some might not be fat buckets of shit but most in the 80s..were !

Yeah but bodybuilders looked good where as Bulgarian powerlifters took boat loads of drugs & still looked like fat toads. Funny that  :D

Only the heavyweights were fat. Most Olympic lifters are very muscular and don't even train for hypertrophy.

some truth in what you are saying but please don´t accuse bodybuilders of having big muscles because of "only juicing" The Bulgarians are doing very well themselves  :D  "we did not know there was steroids in our pills"    :D....LMFAO

From my experience i think 2 sets are enough to stimulate muscle. 5 sets are not needed.
