Many of the new posters within the last 5 or so years (maybe longer) didn’t know MaxRep on here. He was moderator for as long as I could remember. I first met Dave in person about the same time I met my wife on here. Had lunch, shared some good bodybuilding stories he was just an all around solid human. A huge animal lovers especially when it came to rescuing cats. Over the years we kept in touch about once a week or so and when I wouldn’t hear from him or see he didn’t post on FB for a while I would check in with him. He battled heart disease and a few years ago had a major bypass. Long story short, I hadn’t seen or heard from him and just found out last night that he had passed in April. Not many knew that he wrote for I believe several bodybuilding publications. This post is from his girlfriend…
“With a sad heart I lost a wonderful man that was my soulmate, David are Young this past Monday, April 18th. David died peacefully in his sleep of a massive heart attack and went to meet his Savior Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:21 states "for me to live is Christ, and today is gain."
David and I shared a mutual respect and admiration for each other that built a trust and love that we cherished. We desired to spend the rest of our days married in the coming months once David moved to North Carolina from California bridging our distance. I was blessed beyond measure to have the special gift of a man in my life even for a brief time that was so kind thoughtful and gracious. David you will always be in my heart and I know that I will see him in glory when the Lord calls me home. I love you David 💕”

Great guy....Iron Nat just told me yesterday....I hesitated to make a thread as my memory sux and I wasn`t sure if one had been made....I sure as Hell was shocked to hear it....we talked a lot for many years on here.....just a damn good person who will be sorely missed.
My condolences to his loved ones.
RIP brother.

RIP David Young

Holy shit! That is terrible news. I first saw David at Rochester Institute of Technology where he and I went to undergraduate school. He was fricken huge then- I first saw him in the college weight room and was blown away by his size.
We had talked a few times on Getbig and he asked that I not mention the connection then - but now it doesn't matter. He was featured in a college publication because of his bodybuilding career. He was a class act and it is very sad news of his passing.
-
So sorry to hear that, he had lots of great stories, may he rest in peace...
-
I first thought was this dude.
-
sorry to hear this, he and his ex-wife were in one of those gold's gym clothing ads I think he mentioned it at one time. I remember him from the old defunct ironage site, :'(
-
Ron may have known and kept it discloed as not long ago I noticed that his name was removed from the top of the forum but I figured he just didn`t have the time or was possibly ill.....not that he posted much in the last few year or so.
What a shame.

Nope- you are incorrect. In fact the opposite is true.

So, they been telling men the exact opposite thing to do, i.e. give blood and not take iron supplementation.
Glad I don't give blood.
-
David was one of the originals - known him for a long time. Helped out at Ironman Magazine, and the Fit Expos, and much more.
Rest in Peace, David..

Men have been told to avoid iron supplements for decades and to give blood.
Men's multi-vitamins don't contain iron for that reason.

Heme-iron is from animal protein.
Non heme-iron is from plants and is poorly absorbed.
Men's multi-vitamins do not have iron because of the belief that it will cause heart disease.

RIP.

What is your CAC score Coach?

What is your CAC score Coach?
Not sure but it’s time to find out. Luckily I have genetics on my side with no history of heart disease or cancer in my family

Heme iron is the correct form of iron for humans, found in animal foods. Low heme iron is a major problem in plant based dieters. You really are a fucking moron.

well, that helps but get it done anyway.

For sure
high ldl cholesterol with low triglycerides means nothing too btw.
High or low ldl with high triglycerides is a bad sign though. High triglycerides shows insulin resistance and probable heart disease.
My ldl is over 200 but my triglycerides are low. My CAC score was only 2 which ain’t bad for my age.

CAC scores are OK, but they far from tell the picture of whats going on. They are just one-test. They do not measure soft plaque, which kills.
Many w/ a zero for CAC, low Lipids, still get bypass-surgery and death. Get intrusive tests or "Nuclear Stress" test... Much more useful info...

RIP to a Getbigger.
