No offense to the guy but if you jump in the water to save people and you don’t do anything to actually save them, are you really still a hero? Brave, perhaps. Valiant, yes. Heroic? Meh…

The first fucking thing they teach you as a search and rescue volunteer is to secure yourself first.

He was in the Navy, so probably thought he'd just float.
