Not a natty present in that distant past!
Yup it looks like Roy Calender
-
Coe was my idol back then....I just liked how he looked.

That's a great retrospective there
Haislop definitely had the potential to reach the top
Citrone is based just down the road from me and is a legend in the North East of England. His protein bars that sold in the 90s and 00s were awful though. 50g protein apparently...
When I first started training in 2000 I met an old chap in my gym who competed at the competition. He's probably in one of the those photos on the video.
He said afterwards he went out for dinner with Arnold , Coe, Franco et al and went for steak. When Arnold's steak arrived apparently he said to the waiter he ordered steak and not a slice of bacon ;D

He was called "The Southern Gentleman" and that he is, just pure class. Red also, great people...

Today's bodybuilding needs to be more like the '70s. I recall reading that in the '70s only two guys made a "living" from being a bodybuilder and that was Arnold and Franco. I think they each made about $50,000 a year and that was from guest posing and selling their courses and money earned from advertising endorsements.
Bodybuilding isn't a profession per say. When someone says they're a professional bodybuilder it likely means they earned their "pro card" and that's that. They had better have a real job or they'll wind up like Andreas Cahling or Bill Pettis and countless other "pros".

Boyers a nice fucking guy too.
At one of the AOBS dinners we had the pleasure of spending the weekend w/ Boyer and Red Lerille.
He was called "The Southern Gentleman" and that he is, just pure class. Red also, great people...
Every interview I ever saw with Boyer he was just a laid back mellow guy.
Red Lerille had a great build too for his time......winning the Mr. America....Boyer was smart to have him as his mentor.
I saw him in Worcester eons ago at the Mr. Bay State I believe it was.......impresses ,me still to this very day.....he looked simply incredible.
Looked small as Hell in a Golds gym warm-up suit but when he hit the stage I was awestruck !!
