I read a post by Mark Rippetoe recently where he says if you do heavy squats you don't need to work calves because the squats stress them :-\

No. I figured walking around at over 230 pounds for 20 years would do it. I used to work them when younger and they were passable. Stopped working them since I only work out sporadically and they disappeared. I’ve been riding a Peleton bike for two years now or so and my quads actually look good. I wear shorter shorts now so I don’t look like a quadriplegic.
