at least the Mets had 3 playoff games at home.
the SF Giants won 103 games in '93 and didn't make the postseason.

Was hoping Toronto would go give Houston a run for it's money.
Didn't see the Ms sweep happening.

yeah, I expected the Jays and Ms to go three; but you and I both know that anything can happen in a 3 game series . . . hell, the Pirates swept the Dodgers in LA this season.

DeGrom is 34 years old he pitched 11 games last year with a 3.08 era, he is vastly overrated. i pity the team who over pays for him..... just kidding it's not my money and just so it isn't the phillies money either. ;D

He's not overrated in the sense of his ability....when he's on, he's top 2 in the game probably, maybe #1.
The issue is he can't stay healthy.
Would appreciate Philly taking out Atlanta please.

Joe Musgrove was owning the Met's so badly last night, manager Buck Showalter asked the ump's to check and make sure he wasn't cheating.
First time in major league history a team had only one hit in a series deciding game
Go home Met's

It has to be so frustrating for fans for their team to dominate all year and shit the bed in the playoffs. Braves fans understood this throughout the 90's.

imagine if a pitcher could actually pitch a complete game in today's game. how about pitching in relief in between starts in a a 3 man rotation.

Days of yore...
Today's pitching motions have become increasingly violent, with hip separation techniques taught to increase velo, and more violent motion on offspeed stuff to create more lateral movement.
They just can't do that for 9 innings consistently, and the emergence of the relief specialist makes it so they don't have to.

He was a beast this year.
And go easy on Rhys, yeah he messed up, but Philly put up a goose egg.

phils win 9-1, once again hoskins forgot his glove good thing he found his bat in time.

the Dodgers and Braves are both a loss away from being ousted. (well, the Mariners too.)
IMO the Division Series should be 4 out of 7.
shorten the regular season to 154 games (if necessary.)

Agree, it really should.
Especially with the WC round now.

phillies still would have beaten the braves. hard to come back from a 3-1 hole.

yeah, winning 3 in a row is hard ... but the Braves just did that against the Mets 2 weeks ago.
I just think that the top two teams in each league (HOU, NYY, LAD, ATL) over the course of 6 months of baseball shouldn't be eliminated without playing a best of seven series.

This is correct.
I have no love for LA, but to be eliminated in a short series by a team that they absolutely dominated statistically over the 162 is BS.
Also, NYY have created their own problems, and should have swept.

The only thing that matters is making the playoffs. Once a team makes the playoffs it's a crap shoot to who wins in most sports. Regular season wins mean nothing besides making the playoffs.

Managers: Joe Girardi (22-29) and Rob Thomson (65-46) Phillies aren't the same team after they fired Girardi. maybe managers and coaches can make a difference. ;D

Baseball is horribly boring.
The games are long. The season is long. Everything about baseball is long and boring.
Almost as boring as soccer.

That's why the ratings are so bad. Society is much more fast paced today for baseball to be relevant anymore. How long can they continue to pay those salaries?

Interesting - Bryce's higher OPS seems to be mostly on his ability to draw walks, but Manny has two more full seasons of PA during that age period, which is why he has accumulated a higher WAR.

Baseball is so boring that it should be deemed illegal.
It’s not exciting like bodybuilding.

Lol.
They'll do around 10 billion in revenues this year.
I think they've got the salaries covered.

For now but they are living off television contracts negotiated years ago. Eventually these low numbers have to bring down those contracts down. Attendance during the regular season is terrible in most major league cities.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/attendance
Looks like it's up massively from last year, but 21 likely impacted from Covid, of course. Compared to 2018-19 levels, looks about 4-6% off, but the major cities like LA / NY / St Louis still have high numbers.
Obviously down a bit, but doesn't sound catastrophic. I think it might be more about the ridiculous cost of game attendance.

I'm sure MLB wants any combination for the World Series except Philadelphia vs New York because an only east coast series would have bad ratings across most of the country. San Diego vs New York or Houston vs Philly would probably have better ratings.
The cost of going to a game is ridiculously high especially if you are taking a family.

I would agree. Philly / NY is probably the least unlikely, but this whole post season has not gone to plan.
Baseball cost is stupid. Although I despise the Red Sox, they do a cool thing for the college kids in the area - they get emails to buy $9 tickets the day of the game, so that gets younger people in the stadium.
