Title: UFC 281 - LINKS
Post by: OneMoreRep on November 12, 2022, 08:27:31 AM
Gentlemen,

Seems like we have a decent UFC event tonight.

If any of you Ninjas have good links to the event, I ask that you feel free to share here. As I receive links from members via private messages, I will post up whatever is made available to me.

Tried posting a link someone sent me, but supposedly it's turned out to be of low quality (therefore removed).

Who's wrestling tonight?

Wrasssling?

Well, we have:

Israel Adesanya vs Alex Po-something (Brazilian guy)

Dustin Poirier vs Michael Chandler (Fight I want to watch)

Carla Esparza vs Weili Zhang (Might have a lot of wrestling, could possibly be boring, but might be explosive too)

These presence of these 3 fights are worth watching the event for.

I don’t like chandler per se.

Was given a free ride to a title shot.

However, I have no idea why he is an underdog against Dustin.

Dustin has beaten  a washed Connor and Dan hooker in 2 years.

Chandler needs to win.  Has one win over a CTE stricken Tony and Dan Hooker

Anyways, the odds on chandler are good.

Hammered the chandler ML

Any predictions? Who are the good strikers here?
Title: Re: UFC 281 - LINKS

Any predictions? Who are the good strikers here?

Adesanya vs Alex Po-something

Adesanya strengths: Adesanya is the more skilled and technically-sound kickboxer. Adesanya is more fluid with his movement and more accurate with his strikes. Adesanya's stamina (gas tank) is likely better than Alex's tank. Adesanya is a great offensive and defensive striker. Advantage goes for Adesanya the longer the fight goes. If it goes into rounds 4-5, I give it to Adesanya to out-point Alex and get a decision victory.

Alex strengths: He has power behind his strikes (knockout power). Alex holds 2 wins over Adesanya (first fight via decision and second fight a knockout) and this gives him a HUGE psychological advantage. Alex is a highly skilled kickboxer, much like Adesanya, but not as technically smooth as Adesanya. Adesanya moves like a video game character when he delivers his strikes. Alex is a good offensive and defensive striker, but not as great in both departments as compared to what Adesanya displays. Advantage goes to Alex in the first 1-2 rounds, round 3 is a toss up as to whether he will have enough in the gas tank.

Prediction: Alex by knockout within rounds 1-2. If it goes to round 3, it becomes neutral. If it gets to the end of round 5 with a decision, Adesanya takes the win by out striking (winning by points) Alex.

Dustin Poirier vs Michael Chandler

Poirier strengths: Crisp boxing technique and good ground game by way of jiujitsu and decent wrestling. Dustin packs power behind his punches and is economical in his delivery of strikes.

Chandler: Explosive power and amazing speed especially during the first 1-2 rounds. Chandler's striking is good, but he leaves himself open at times and can get clipped. If Chandler lands a clean hook on Dustin's chin, it's game over (he's very strong). Chandler's true strength is his wrestling and his ability to evade submissions. If it goes to the ground, I think Dustin will have a hard time, as Chandler is a very good wrestler.

Prediction: No clue. This is the fight I want to watch, as it's hard to call and I think both guys are pretty good. If it stays standing, Dustin takes the win. If it becomes a wrestling match, Chandler takes it. It's truly a toss up, as either fighters can surprise us.

Carla Esparza vs Weili Zhang

Weili strengths: Strong as fuck. Let me reiterate, strong as fuck. Also, did I say strong? She has power behind her punches and is a very calculated striker. Her inherent discipline shows well in her fights, as she sticks to the plan and performs as coached to. Her ground game is good, but not masterful. I don't think the ground game is much of an issue as Esparza is more of a wrestler, but not submission artist. If Weili can dictate the pace and determine where the fight mostly takes place, she will win.

Esparza strengths: Wrestler. She's boring and would love to make it a "lay-and-pray" situation whereby she rides her opponents like a backpack until they wear out and give up due to exhaustion.

Prediction: Weili knocks the fuck out of Esparza by round 1-2.

Nice take, OMR. I'm in agreement. I'd like Pereira and Chandler to get the wins, but I'm fortunately not a betting man. These are going to be good fights.

Wore himself out throwing punches like a retard.

Loopy, stretched out shots, got his kick checked and never threw another one, spent the second round humping Dustin on the ground, wore himself out.

Incredibly entertaining fight from Poirier/Chandler.

Chandler has all the physical gifts (power, speed etc), but he tends to blow his load too early. His wrestling is phenomenal and he has power behind his punches, but his technique is sloppy. He telegraphs his punches and Dustin has crisp boxing.

Just as I had thought, it was a toss up.

Let's see what the ladies bring. Rooting for Zhang.

I'm glad Adesanya lost, he just stood in front of him against the fence like a retard.

That was the worst fight i've seen him in.

Why would you bait in a guy that is that powerful?

Retarded.

I don't follow this stuff like I used to so all I've seen is highlight clips of that guy. Completely disappointed to watch him fight. Looked slow and uncoordinated. Surprised he wasn't knocked out earlier.

Izzy could have coasted to a victory had he evaded Alex a bit, but he kept getting bullied to the cage and cornered. Granted, because of Alex's power, Izzy couldn't back him into a corner or control the pace given that it could have come with a knockout blow.

As I mentioned before, this guy Alex has power. Very nice kickboxing match, but I do think they'll do a rematch as it was very competitive and Izzy was winning 3-1 going into the 5th round.

For what it's worth, Alex's kryptonite is wrestling/jiu-jitsu. If Izzy doesn't recapture the belt, whomever goes after Alex needs to put on a submission wrestling clinic.

Izzy was having a lot of success on the ground. Alex is huge and not easy to take down, but all Izzy had to do was look to take him down and keep him there in the last round and he'd have won. His corner should have been imploring him to do that. He got careless and KTFO. Glad Alex won.

It wasn't his best fight, but the fact that he didn't sidestep a single punch/kick shows that he was intentionally trying to take the shots.

Maybe because he had previously been knocked out by the guy in kick boxing, he was looking to prove a point?

Further proves my reasoning for not paying for these fights anymore.

At least the other fights were good.

All Izzy had to do in order to win that fight was circle the cage.

That was very amateurish to think he could back against the cage and take shots.

But he had been doing it the entire fight.

Alex will get destroyed by a decent wrestler/BJJ fighter.

1. Izzy is 6'1 at most. He's listed at 6'4. This is a lie. Alex is a legit 6'4.

2. Alex is too big, strong and skilled for Izzy. Not to mention it's got to be in your head even a little when someone has two wins over you.

3. Izzy looked scared the first couple rounds and fought scared.

i think the only way to beat alex is wrestling izzy is easily the second best striker in mma, but no one has the power that alex has, i doubt any mw can take his shots either.

exactly and this was only i think his fourth or fifth mma fight, this guy in another year or two will be very hard to beat.  he will ko izzy again if they fight.
