I zapped into Blade (the first one) the other day. Holy shit, those cheap CGI FX, so painful to watch. It's literally unbelievable that people were watching this movie like 20 years ago taking it seriously.
The same with the 2nd Matrix, when Neo is flying. OUCH!! :-X

A true classic is a movie that still "works" after 30, 40, 50 years, like Jaws, or Psycho. They're still watchable because they weren't relying heavily on Special FX.

Practical effects usually last longer
Compare "The Thing" with Kurt Russell and the Remake

You're damn right. Funny thing about the 'prequel' - they did begin using the prosthetics and practical effects and were making good progress. I forget why they opted for the CGI in the end but they did genuinely start off down the right path. My favourite thing about the prequel is the tie-in at the end with the helicopter chasing the dog... Such a great way to line it up with the original. It's a shame but that movie could have really been a great thing. The Thing (original) is one of my favourite movies full stop.
CGI works well when it's used minimally - like Terminator 2 - over 30 years old and still holds up for the most part in terms of effects. Obviously not brilliant but what they achieved - literally the icing on the cake. Now it's plastered all over the shop. Kind of like steroid abuse in modern bodybuilding.

The set was dressed with real product logos...
I am charmed by the rear projection and undercrank...

I disagree. ALWAYS revisit movies
This woke up my dogs. Thanks, Mr and Mrs. Smith! (If you’re still alive)
