gotta hand it to golds gym corp. they know how to do gyms. This is my third golds gym membership, first one was brand new, but after one year it was just a little too far. Second one was closer, but was a disaster, as they oversold, and the space was too small, always packed. Lasted 6 months. Signed up last week for this new gym in Cerritos California. 22 a month, one year contract, no money down. (Can cancel in 30 days) 49 annual fee.
First day today- locker room, totally modern, executive type locker room, unbelievable nice
Gym floor- unbelievable the amount of equipment. Gym floor is huge, 8 bench’s, 6 inclines, dumbbells up to 150, cardio is loaded with machines, tons of machines, so many i have never seen before. Assault bikes, which i love.
Outdoor area where i did a wall ball workout to wind down, turf area,
Cleaning people everywhere, of course its brand new, but the first golds was on top of cleaning too. This is a total winner for me. 12 minutes from my house, 7 minutes to my favorite Mexican hole in the wall for breakfast.
And the girls??????? Forget about it. Everywhere, lolllllllllll of course, lots of kids, but they dont bother me anymore, i just give them the look and they stay away from me.
Looks like i hit the jackpot. (I have been at a old 24 hour fitness for years, bathroom stinks of piss, most bars are bent, totally useless, nasty place, but 9 bucks a month) now I’m lifting like a king.
I got so pissed over telling the management about a badly bend bar, and them doing nothing about it, i came in to bench, and it was the same bent bar. I grabbed the bar, marched to the managers desk, and layed the bar on his desk, i was fuming. He finally threw it in the dumpster. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😅😅😅😅😅

I don't think the Cerritos Gold's is part of corporate Golds Gym.
Way back when, there was Gold's Venice and lots of franchises. Then it got bought out by one corp and then another. Corporate Gold's got rid of all franchises except in southern California. Angel seems to have an iron clad contract for exclusive rights to all Gold's Gyms in southern California outside of Venice.
The 23 gyms of https://join.goldsgymsocal.com/ are not part of RSG Group, the current owner of all other Gold's Gyms

I don’t lift heavy anymore, i lift fast. After a nice warm up, i switch gears and get moving. I only rest 60 seconds between sets, never sit down, never look at my phone, and all my talking to my friends is over, its go time. I lift for 50 minutes, which at the end of that time I’m drenched.
I’m like the terminator to Linda Hamilton in the elevator: do you want to live???????????????? Yes i do.
I see no reason to do powerlifting meets at age 65. Nope, did that in my thirty’s.
Only bench 225 or 245, never higher. After lifting for 40 years, i swear i can feel that tricep tendon daring me to go heavier so it can explode. I and do 110 triceps French curls seated, which is pretty good i think.
Legs- nothing, have a double knee replacement set up for next year.
Back, just machines, nice and fast.
Shoulders, still pretty strong, could do 100 on seated military press if someone helps me get the fuckers up.
I can recommend this type of fast training for us older guys. Get a great pump, good cardio during the workout, slim chance of getting hurt.

I had virtually the same experience.
Was working out at anytime fitness. Super cheap and had access to hundreds of locations around the world. But the atmosphere sucked the life out of you. You either went into one in a decent area and it was full of smug assholes or you found a different one that management just didn't give a fuck about.
Just joined a Golds. Equipment is better and people there are more serious about working out. It makes a huge difference

The cheaper places get the dreg's sometimes. Everyone and anyone goes.
Our places charges 500.00 for the year (instead of the local Planet Fatness at 120.00) and its night and day as far as the people are concerned.

Do you work for a gym?
You have a really gnarly home gym , though?
