I waited for this thread to show up, bur didn't see it [I may have missed it]. Mods: if there is another 2023 dead pool thread, please merge my list into that thread. If not, maybe we can let this thread run until Saturday, January 7th @11:59pm - only if we don't have an official 2023 thread yet.
My list:
- Andy Taylor [of Duran Duran].
- James Whale [radio presenter].
- Dennis Law [Scottish former footballer].
- Emperor Akihito.
- Timothy Keller [pastor]
-
Mel Brooks (96)
Norman Lear (100)
Pant-Shitter (Already brain-dead)
-
A huge number of those who took the clot shot.
-
Mel Brooks (96)
Norman Lear (100)
Pant-Shitter (Already brain-dead)
Points are scored based on how far they are from age 100.
So if all of them on your list die, you will get:
+4
+0
+20
^ Total points.
Funny enough, I was going to put Jeremiah Green on my list, and he JUST died.
He was pretty young. That would have been a lot of points.
-
Matt,
May I ask that you enforce the rules of this year's dead pool with an iron fist? Delete any gay RIP posts along the lines of 'Kenneth from Birmingham passed away comfortably in his sleep, surrounded by friends and family'. We can have a separate obituary thread for that nonsense. My guesses:
Henry Kissinger
Roger Penrose
Mickey Rourke
Brian Shaw
Dave Palumbo
Clint Eastwood
Larry Wheels
I suspect I'm due a heart attack so I'm adding myself, too.

Bob Barker’s totally going down this year. Calum Von Moger as well

No qualms with this. The real talent comes by way of a man named Warren Cuccurullo, the guitarist that created & performed the solo that characterizes Duran Duran's Ordinary World.

Chris Ledesma, Music Editor on ‘The Simpsons’ for More Than 30 Years, Dies at 64
Chris Ledesma, the music editor for “The Simpsons” who worked on the long-running animated sitcom from its very first season in 1989 until May 2022, died Dec. 16, Fox Television announced. He was 64.
The network first made his death public on Sunday, Jan. 1, with the year’s first episode of “The Simpsons,” which ended with a tribute to him.
“Ledesma poured his heart and soul into crafting the musical language of The Simpsons. Chris imbued every episode of the show over 33 seasons with his deep knowledge and even deeper passion for the music which has become a part of so many peoples’ lives,” “The Simpsons” showrunner Matt Selman said in a statement provided to the Los Angeles Times. “Chris will always be a vital member of the The Simpsons family, and his loss is felt deeply by the many who loved him.”
Ledesma first served as a music supervisor for “The Simpsons” when he joined the Fox sketch comedy series “The Tracey Ullman Show,” where “The Simpsons” debuted as a series of animated shorts. When the shorts were spun off into a full sitcom in 1989, he moved with them and remained with the show for over 700 episodes.
“The Simpsons” writer Carolyn Omine wrote on Sunday, “Chris Ledesma was a sweet man who loved his job and was really, really good at it. We miss him.”
After Ledesma stepped down, he was replaced as music editor by Jake Schaefer; on Monday Schaefer wrote, “Chris Ledesma’s passion for music and for @TheSimpsons was an inspiration. I’m grateful for the time I got to spend with him this year. He was a great mentor and a genuine person. My heart goes out to his family. Rest In Peace Chris.”

Stallone will make it 20 more years and be jakkked the whole while.
It's pretty crazy that he's 76.5 years old and looks like he as least 5 years left in him.. and has been juicing for half his life.. and juicing while in his 60's, 70's...
Goes to show.. PEDs aren't that bad, health wise. They aren't worse than overeating, weighing a lot, diuretics, the snow, jumping off a bridge...
-
And Zane doesn't? Arnie smokes and drinks.
He's Arnold's 5 years senior, and seems fragile lately...
Arnold is eating little, and seems to be in good aerobic capacity, otherwise he would be wasted way earlier.

James "Buster" Corley, co-founder of the popular restaurant and entertainment chain Dave & Buster's, has died in an apparent suicide. He was 72. In a company statement Wednesday, Dave & Busters said Corley was an "innovative and creative force" with a "passion for hospitality." His daughter, Kate Corley, confirmed her father's death, saying that a stroke he experienced four months ago "caused severe damage to the communication and personality part of his brain."

Nashville SWAT officer kills Grammy-winning sound engineer Mark Capps, wanted for assault, kidnapping
Grammy-winning sound engineer Mark Capps was shot and killed by Nashville police, Thursday.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department said an officer killed the 54-year-old at his home in the Hermitage area after he was accused of kidnapping and threatening his wife and stepdaughter at gunpoint.
Officers had gone to the home to arrest Capps on warrants charging him with two counts each of aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping, police spokesman Don Aaron said.
"The victims said that Capps awakened them at 3 a.m., gathered them in the living room at gunpoint and refused to allow them to leave," Aaron detailed.
Capps’ 60-year-old wife and 23-year-old stepdaughter explained to police that he continuously threatened to kill them if they attempted to call anyone. The two were able to escape the situation when he fell asleep.
The wife and stepdaughter went to police and arrest warrants were issued in the afternoon, Aaron confirmed.
Three SWAT officers arrived at Capps home to arrest him. He opened the front door and was armed with a pistol.
Officer Kendall Coon demanded Capps show his hands before firing seconds later.
"Officer Coon deemed that Capps' movements posed an immediate, imminent threat and fired," Aaron said. Capps died at the scene.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will investigate the shooting. The Nashville Police Department will conduct an administrative review of the tactics and interactions used to determine whether they meet departmental standards.
According to Capps’ website, he was a multi-platinum Grammy award-winning engineer, mixer and producer.
He won four Grammys for his work on polka albums and his website lists several other albums on which he's done mixing and engineering work.
Capps worked with top country artists including Amy Grant, Dixie Chicks, Neil Diamond and more.

Carole Cook Dies: Lucille Ball Protégé And ‘Sixteen Candles’ Actress Was 98
(https://img-s-msn-com.akamaized.net/tenant/amp/entityid/AA16eOlV.img?w=534&h=254&m=6&x=293&y=119&s=183&d=183)
Carole Cook, a protege of Lucille Ball who would become a familiar face through appearances on Ball’s TV shows, movies like The Incredible Mr. Limpet and Sixteen Candles and stage musicals 42nd Street and Romantic Comedy, died today of heart failure in Beverly Hills, California, just three days before her 99th birthday.
Her death was announced by husband Tom Troupe.
Born Mildred Frances Cook in Abilene, Texas, Cook made her Broadway debut as a replacement in 1954’s Threepenny Opera. After moving to Los Angeles, she became a favorite of Ball’s, who suggested the name spelling of Carole in honor of movie star Carole Lombard. “Like her, you have the same healthy disrespect for all things in general,” Ball told Cook.
Cook would subsequently make guest appearances on Ball’s sitcoms The Lucy Show and Here’s Lucy. The two remained life-long friends, with Ball serving as matron-of-honor at Cook’s 1964 wedding to Troupe.
On stage, Cook created the role of “Maggie Jones” in the New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo companies of the Tony Award winning musical 42nd Street, and originated the role of “Blanche Daly” in the Broadway musical Romantic Comedy. She guest starred in the New York City Center production of 70 Girls 70, and co-starred in the national tour of Steel Magnolias.
On the big screen, Cook made memorable appearances in movies from The Incredible Mr. Limpet to American Gigilo. She played the sympathetic grandmother to Molly Ringwald’s character in Sixteen Candles, and provided the voice of “Pearl” in the animated Disney film Home on the Range.
Other feature film credits include Palm Springs Weekend, The Gauntlet, Grandview, U.S.A., Summer Lovers and, most recently, A Very Sordid Wedding.
In addition to her trio of Broadway credits, Cook made stage appearances in productions of Call Me Madam, Pal Joey, Follies, Annie Get Your Gun, A Little Night Music and The Lion in Winter, the latter among the shows co-starring husband Troupe. The couple received the 2002 Theatre Ovation Award for Career Achievement, the first husband and wife so honored.
In 2018, Cook appeared in a sold-out engagement at the New York City cabaret Feinsteins/54 Below.
Cook guest starred on numerous television series, most recently Grey’s Anatomy.
Offstage, Cook was a longtime advocate in the fight against HIV and AIDS.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by stepson Christopher Troupe and his wife Becky; sister Regina Cocanougher; and other extended family.
Services have not been announced, but the family has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund).

Rumor says Knotts had affairs with Marilyn Monroe, Raquel Welch, Sophia Loren, and Gina Lollobrigida to name just a few.
He broke Monroe's heart by not marrying her and she killed herself.

Randy had that higher / poppier voice.

'The Wire' Star Al Brown Dead at 83
(https://imagez.tmz.com/image/37/4by3/2023/01/15/37dadb46b0fb45ac814291545d13ccb7_md.png)
Al Brown -- famous from "The Wire" -- has died ... this according to his loved ones.
The actor's daughter, Jenny, tells TMZ ... Al passed away Friday in Las Vegas as a result of his Alzheimer's battle. She tells us that before he got into acting in the '90s, he was a 29-year-old Air Force vet who served two tours in Vietnam ... so he served honorably.
Jenny also says Al loved fans of his and was happy to stop and chat with anyone who might've recognized him from the show over the years -- noting, he loved his job.
Al will best be remembered for playing Col. Stan Valchek in the hit HBO show from the 2000s. In the series, he was a high-ranking Baltimore PD official, often portrayed as somewhat corrupt ... who'd give the main character cops a hard time in their investigations.
Valchek was a recurring character in all five seasons of "The Wire," but played a major part in Season 2 ... when he was dealing with dock workers who'd gotten mixed up with the Greek mob. His character was portrayed as a proud Polish-American -- a running gag throughout.
Great role, and Brown played it well for years. In addition to his work on HBO ... he also guest starred in other shows like "Rescue Me," "Forensic Files," "Law & Order: SVU," "Commander in Chief," "Maron," "The Hustler" and others.
Al even had a few notable movies in his repertoire ... playing small roles in "The Replacements," "12 Monkeys," "Lay the Favorite," "Red Dragon," "Liberty Heights," and more. He had a knack for playing hardboiled cops and law enforcement types ... and he did 'em justice every time.
He's survived by his children and extended family. Al was 83.
RIP

Luigia "Gina" Lollobrigida (July 4, 1927 – January 16, 2023)
She was one of the highest-profile European actresses of the 1950s and early 1960s, a period in which she was an international sex symbol. At the time of her death, Lollobrigida was among the last living high-profile international actors from the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema. She made her English-language film debut in 1953, in John Huston’s Beat the Devil, alongside Humphrey Bogart and Jennifer Jones. She went on to star in films such as Trapeze (1956) with Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis; The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1956), as Esmeralda with Anthony Quinn; Solomon and Sheba (1959) with Yul Brynner; Come September (1961), with Rock Hudson; and Buona Sera, Mrs. Campbell (1968). When film roles began to dwindle in the 1970s, Lollobrigida made a new career for herself as a photojournalist. She occasionally appeared in film and on TV, most famously in a recurring role in the prime-time soap Falcon Crest in 1984.
Lollobrigida continued on as an active supporter of Italian and Italian-American causes, particularly the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF). In 2008, she received the NIAF Lifetime Achievement Award at the Foundation's Anniversary Gala. In 2013 she sold her jewelry collection and donated the nearly US$5 million from the sale to benefit stem-cell therapy research. She was married, and had one child. Lollobrigida died in Rome on January 16, 2023, at the age of 95. No cause of death has been given.

That actually brings up an entirely new debate. Seriously? How much are guys like Brad Pitt's sperm actually worth? I know that ain't giving it away for free.
Is there an actual market for this shit? Get Arnold Schwarzenegger's sperm for 250,000!
If so, imagine how many kids are not from the genealogy, that their parents tell them.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit.

‘Sesame Street’ Co-Creator Lloyd N. Morrisett Dies at 93
Sesame Street is bidding adieu to one of its own, as the children’s series co-creator Lloyd N. Morrisett has died. The creative was 93 years old.
In a statement from fellow Sesame Street co-creator Joan Ganz Cooney, she said, “Without Lloyd Morrisett, there would be no Sesame Street. It was he who first came up with the notion of using television to teach preschoolers basic skills, such as letters and numbers. He was a trusted partner and loyal friend to me for over fifty years, and he will be sorely missed.”

Actor Lance Kerwin Dies at 62
Actor Lance Kerwin has died. The performer, who is known for his work in shows like James at 15 and Salem’s Lot, was just 62 years old.
News of Kerwin’s death was reportedly revealed by his daughter Savanah, according to Variety. Kerwin died Tuesday, January 24, in San Clemente, California, and an autopsy is being conducted to determine a cause of death.
As previously stated, Kerwin was best known for his TV roles in James at 15 and the mini-series adaptation of Stephen King’s supernatural Salem’s Lot, in which he played teen vampire hunter Mark Petrie. Initially beginning his career in the early 1970s, Kerwin made a name for himself as a child actor appearing in after-school specials like The Boy Who Drank Too Much.

Spanish fashion designer Paco Rabanne has died at the age of 88, the Business of Fashion reports. The news was confirmed on Friday morning by Puig, the beauty and fashion conglomerate that controls the Paco Rabanne fashion and fragrance brands.
Rabanne was a pioneer of fashion’s space-age movement, inspired by the then-ongoing space race in the ’60s. The revolutionary designer used materials like metal and plastic to create dresses and accessories made of chainmail and paillettes that brought glamour to a Jetsons-like fantasy of the future. Boundary-pushing pieces in silver and gold metals soon became his signature. The futuristic materials and silhouettes were a favorite among stars like Peggy Guggenheim and Françoise Hardy, and were worn by Jane Fonda in Barbarella.
Rabanne told the New York Times in 2017 he saw creating armor-like designs for women as political. “In France, during the ’60s, we had a similar women’s liberation movement as in America.” He explained, “At the same time I was doing the costumes for the movie Barbarella. So it was a moment when women emerged to be warriors because they needed to affirm their desire of emancipation, freedom, and liberty.”
Rabanne was influenced by fashion at an early age — his mother was a seamstress for Cristobal Balenciaga. Rabanne went on to study architecture at l’École Nationale des Beaux-Arts and did stints in construction and drawing fashion sketches before going on to design jewelry at Dior, Balenciaga, and Givenchy and eventually launching his own line in 1966. Soon after, Rabanne signed a deal with Puig to launch the brand’s best-selling fragrances.
Rabanne often took inspiration from the mythical and astrological, describing himself as clairvoyant and recounting his experiences with mysticism and predictions in a book. His values of mysticism became a heavy theme in his work, as Julien Dossena — the current creative director for the Paco Rabanne fashion brand — told Hero Magazine in 2020.
Rabanne retired from the fashion world in the late ’90s to pursue art. Dossena thanked the late designer on Instagram for the legacy he left behind. Dossena’s latest ready-to-wear collection for Paco Rabanne is scheduled to show during Paris Fashion Week.

Whoops, misremembered my hollywood horror starlets, it was Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson Tom tore up -
From an old Stern show -
"After the game Howard spent some time talking to Casandra. When she was a young woman she worked as a topless show girl in Las Vegas. She was a virgin when she moved there at age 17. She said she went from being a girl scout to being a topless dancer. She stayed a virgin until she was 19. The man who took her virginity was singer Tom Jones who is rumored to have a huge penis. According to Casandra he had such a huge penis that he ripped her open when he had sex with her. She said it hurt so much that she cried. She actually had to go to the hospital to get stitches to repair the rip. Tom Jones hasn't spoken to her since then. Casandra was also in to promote an Imax film that she's appearing in called ''Encounters In The 3rd Dimension''. That starts at the end of the month. She's also selling Elvira merchandise and CD's."

Unknown. He was supposed to have gotten clean but then he has done that a half dozen times.
I also added Robbie Rage to the list. He was one half of High Voltage. I know from first hand experience that MFer was a massive pillhead and was knocking back 15-20mg xanax a day. That was on top of ectasy and percs. He got tossed from several gyms in Atlanta and it's surrounding area where he was trying his hand at personal training. Went totally broke which reportedly led to his drying out from the pills because he couldn't afford them. Lost his home and several cars.
Did the Christian thing for a while but my friends back in Atlanta tell me that he looks like a scarecrow now.

De La Soul rapper David Jolicoeur, known as Trugoy the Dove, dead at 54
(https://media.cnn.com/api/v1/images/stellar/prod/230212182925-trugoy-the-dov-death-restricted.jpg?c=16x9&q=h_720,w_1280,c_fill)
David Jude Jolicoeur, better known under stage name Trugoy the Dove as one third of iconic rap trio De La Soul, has died.
The news was confirmed to CNN via Tony Ferguson, the music group’s publicist. Jolicoeur was 54 years old. Ferguson said Jolicoeur’s passing was “a huge loss” in a phone call to CNN. A cause of death was not provided.
Jolicoeur, a Brooklyn, NY native is widely considered to be one of the most influential hip-hop artists of the 1980s and 1990s to produce music in the genre that reflected a gentler tone.
Jolicoeur and De La Soul members Vincent Manson, known as Pasemaster Mase, and Kelvin Mercer, known as Posdnuos, formed the rap trio in 1988 after attending high school together in Amityville, New York.
De La Soul released their debut album “3 Feet High and Rising” in 1989 that included the hit “Me, Myself and I,” which spent 17 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The album’s interlude skits, conceptual sound and samplings of James Brown’s music influenced artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy and N.W.A. to emulate the group’s unique style.
“I think the element of that time of what was taking place in music, hip-hop, and our culture, I think it welcomed that and opened up minds and spirits to see and try new different things,” Jolicoeur told Billboard last month.
Over the course of their performing career, De La Soul was nominated for six Grammy Awards, winning one for best pop collaboration with vocals for “Feel Good Inc.” in 2006.
“The Magic Number,” another song off their debut album “3 Feet High and Rising,” was featured as the end-credit song in “Spider-man: No Way Home” in 2021.
The placement of the hippie-inspired song in “No Way Home” drew in renewed interest in De La Soul, but the song wasn’t available on streaming services due to decades of legal complications related to sample clearances with group’s former label Tommy Boy Records.
Since Reservoir Media acquired De La Soul’s catalog in 2021, the way was cleared for the legendary trio to finally stream their music on popular streaming sites. The group’s first six albums will be available to stream in March 2023, according to Billboard.
The most recent album that Jolicoeur and De La Soul released was “And the Anonymous Nobody…” in 2016.
De La Soul was scheduled to perform three shows in the United Kingdom starting April 8, 2023.
“Trugoy Dave from De La Soul has gone up to be with the day of the stars with the Master,” singer Pharell Williams said in a tribute on Twitter. “Sending love, light and positive vibrations to his family, The Soul and everyone whose lives have been touched by his existence.”
Rapper and producer Erick Sermon also honored Jolicoeur, sharing on Instagram, “This one hurts. From Long Island from one of the best rap groups in Hiphop # Delasoul #plug2 Dave has passed away you will be missed… RIP”

Richard Belzer, Extraordinarily Smart-Ass as a Comic and a TV Cop, Dies at 78
The stand-up legend and 'Groove Tube' actor played Det. John Munch on 'Homicide: Life on the Street,' 'Law & Order: SVU' and eight other shows.
Richard Belzer, the beloved comedian who began as an edgy stand-up performer before finding further fame as the cynical but stalwart detective John Munch on Homicide: Life on the Street and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, has died. He was 78.
Belzer died early Sunday at his home in Bozouls in southwest France, writer Bill Scheft, a longtime friend of the actor, told The Hollywood Reporter. “He had lots of health issues, and his last words were, ‘Fuck you, guy,'” Scheft said.
Belzer made his film debut in the hilarious The Groove Tube (1974), warmed up audiences in the early days of Saturday Night Live and famously was put to sleep by Hulk Hogan.
Munch made his first appearance in 1993 on the first episode of Homicide and his last in 2016 on Law & Order: SVU. In between those two NBC dramas, Belzer played the detective on eight other series, and his hold on the character lasted longer than James Arness’ on Gunsmoke and Kelsey Grammer’s on Cheers and Frasier.
Certainly one of the most memorable cops in TV history, Munch — based on a real-life Baltimore detective — was a highly intelligent, doggedly diligent investigator who believed in conspiracy theories, distrusted the system and pursued justice through a jaded eye. He’d often resort to dry, acerbic wisecracks to make his point: “I’m a homicide detective. The only time I wonder why is when they tell me the truth,” went a typical Munch retort.
In a 2016 interview for the website The Interviews: An Oral History of Television, Homicide executive producer Barry Levinson recalled listening to Belzer on The Howard Stern Show and liking him for Munch. “We were looking at some other actors, and when I heard him, I said, ‘Why don’t we find out about Richard Belzer?” Levinson said. “I like the rhythm of the way he talks. And that’s how that happened.”
The pencil-thin Belzer portrayed Munch on all seven seasons of the NBC series. When it ended in 1999, the actor wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye to the role. He had appeared as Munch on NBC’s Law & Order three times from 1996-99 and thought he might be a good fit on that show.
“When Homicide was canceled, I was in France with my wife and she said, ‘Let’s open a bottle of champagne and toast: You did this character for seven years,'” Belzer recounted in the 2009 book Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Unofficial Companion. “And then I remembered that Benjamin Bratt was leaving L&O, and so I called my manager and said, ‘Call Dick Wolf — maybe Munch can become [Det. Lennie] Briscoe’s partner’ —- because we had teamed for the crossover. So he called and Dick said, ‘What a great idea, but I’ve already cast Jesse Martin to be the new guy [opposite Jerry Orbach].'”
Wolf, however, was in the process of developing a Law & Order spinoff to focus on the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit, the division that investigates sexually based crimes. He wanted Munch for that.
When Law & Order: SVU debuted in September 1999, Munch had relocated from Baltimore to New York to join forces with Det. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Det. Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). Capt. Donald Cragen (Dann Florek) was brought over from Law & Order to head the squad.
Munch’s sardonic demeanor turned out to be perfect for the grim tone of the series, and Belzer stayed 14 seasons. The character announced his retirement from the NYPD in 2014, but Munch returned a couple years later for the 17th-season episode “Fashionable Crimes.”
Belzer as Munch showed up on a 1997 episode of The X-Files that appropriately dealt with the origins of the show’s resident conspiracists — the Lone Gunmen. He also popped up on The Beat, Law & Order: Trial by Jury and The Wire and played the cop for laughs on Arrested Development, 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. A puppet who looked like Munch even showed up on Sesame Street.
“I never asked anyone to be on their show. So it’s doubly flattering to me to see me depicted in a script and that I’m so recognizable and lovable as the sarcastic detective and smart-ass,” Belzer said in a 2008 interview. “Much to my delight, because he is a great character for me to play, it’s fun for me. So I’m not upset about being typecast at all.”
Richard Jay Belzer was born on Aug. 4, 1944, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. His penchant for comedy grew out of an abusive childhood and a mother who beat him and his older brother, Len.
“She always had some rationale for hitting us,” he told People magazine in 1993. “My kitchen was the toughest room I ever worked. I had to make my mom laugh or I’d get my ass kicked.”
Belzer’s self-described “uncontrollable wit” in the classroom often landed him in trouble, and his stay at Massachusetts’ Dean Junior College ended abruptly when he was expelled for organizing on-campus protests. A series of odd jobs followed, including census taker, dock worker and jewelry salesman. For a time, he pursued a career as a journalist and worked for The Bridgeport Post newspaper.
A tragedy made Belzer reassess his priorities. Three years after his mom, Frances, died of breast cancer, his father, Charles, a salesman, distraught over his wife’s death, attempted suicide in 1967. Belzer found him and saved his life, but a year later, his dad succeeded. (Belzer’s brother, who produced the radio program The Comedy Hour, would also die by suicide, leaping from the roof of his Upper West Side apartment building in 2014 after his wife, Sesame Street director Emily Squires, had died.)
His father’s death hit Belzer hard, he said, and he decided it was time to take a risk and try comedy.
On a lark, Belzer answered an ad in The Village Voice to audition for Channel One, an East Village comedy troupe led by Ken Shapiro and Lane Sarasohn. He performed the bits he had honed growing up — including imitations of Marlon Brando, Jerry Lewis and, at his bar mitzvah, Bob Dylan — and got the gig in 1971.
Calling its show Groove Tube, Channel One specialized in skits satirizing TV conventions like clowns on kids shows and anchormen. “Go and see Groove Tube,” Clive Barnes had written in a 1969 review for The New York Times. “It is a whole lot better than staying home and watching television.”
Channel One heightened its mock television world by simultaneously broadcasting the skits on three TV monitors in the theater. Shapiro and Sarasohn also videotaped the performances and compiled them into a program to play at local colleges.
The response was strong enough to parlay the idea into a film deal, which became the R-rated, sketch-filled The Groove Tube. Belzer portrayed a lowlife drug dealer in a parody of police dramas, an American president heckling a foreign dignitary and a blackface prostitute in drag. (The movie was the first for Chevy Chase as well.).
“We were very high — when we wrote it, when we shot it, when we premiered it and when we realized we’d made a movie,” Belzer said in a 2010 interview with The A.V. Club. “It was truly underground in the sense that before it was a movie, we had a little theater and we showed Groove Tube on three monitors in a 90-seat theater. So for people to pay to see television, before cable, it was pretty innovative.”
Belzer’s success with Channel One led to stand-up gigs at such New York clubs as Catch a Rising Star, the Improv and Pips. He performed on the National Lampoon Radio Hour alongside Chase, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. And when Lorne Michaels launched Saturday Night Live in 1975, he tapped Belzer to be the warm-up comedian for the audience. (Belzer said The Groove Tube was Michael’s inspiration for SNL.)
“It was thrilling in those days to be a part of that because — regardless of what anyone said — a lot of people didn’t know how that was going to be accepted,” he told NPR in 1989. “This was like giving the kids the key to the store — to have all of these ‘anti-establishment’ people have a TV show on a network. So they asked me to do some sketches and do the warm-ups. I just kind of did what I did in nightclubs. I talked to the audience. I did some of my material, but I tried to improvise and ad-lib as much as I could. And it was fascinating doing that in a television studio and not in a nightclub.”
Belzer hosted the short-lived Lifetime talk show Hot Properties, where his guests in March 1985 included Hogan and Mr. T, on hand to promote the inaugural WrestleMania. The 6-foot-8, 300-pound Hogan put the 6-foot-1, 150-pound Belzer in a front chinlock, knocking him unconscious and then releasing him to the floor, where the limp comedian banged his head, drawing blood.
“He came very close to killing me,” Belzer told Roy Firestone in 1990. “I was told by a sports medicine expert that if I had fallen a few inches either way I could have been crippled for life, I could have been dead.” He sued Hogan, Mr. T, Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation for $5 million and received a reported $400,0000 in a 1990 settlement, which he said he used for a down payment on his house in France.
Meanwhile, frustration was growing as Belzer watched contemporaries such as Chase, Robin Williams and Steve Martin become rich doing movies. He admitted during his People interview that he agreed to appear on Everything Goes, a salacious cable game show, for the sole reason of paying for a Hawaiian family vacation.
“Three contestants come out, and the celebrity panel takes a good look at them,” said Belzer, describing the format. “Then female contestants had to stick their naked breasts through a cutout or men their bare buttocks, and the panel guessed which person it was. At the end, during the credits, the camera zooms in on me, and I mouth the words, ‘I did it for the money.’ It’s the only time I sold out in my life.”
And then John Munch changed everything.
Belzer also played an MC — basically himself — in Fame (1980) and Scarface (1983) and had bit parts in Author! Author! (1982), Night Shift (1982), Flicks (1983), America (1986), Fletch Lives (1989), The Big Picture (1989), The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), Get on the Bus (1996) and The Man in the Moon (1999).
He also had a recurring role on the 1990s series The Flash, played Inspector Henderson on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and did cameos in music videos for Pat Benatar and Mike + the Mechanics.
Then there was Belzer the author; he published books on a range of subjects, including 1988’s How to Be a Stand-Up Comic; 2000’s UFOs, JFK, and Elvis: Conspiracies You Don’t Have to Be Crazy to Believe; and 2008’s I Am Not a Cop!: A Novel, which centered on an actor named Richard Belzer who plays a TV cop named Munch and investigates a murder.
Survivors include his third wife, actress Harlee McBride (they married in 1985, and she played medical examiner Alyssa Dyer on Homicide), and stepdaughters Jessica and Bree.

Paul Grant death: Star Wars actor dies aged 56 after collapsing outside King’s Cross station
Star Wars actor Paul Grant has died, aged 56, after collapsing outside a London train station.
The actor was found by police at King’s Cross on Thursday (16 March), and was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced braindead.
His family announced that they made the decision to switch off his life support machine on Sunday (19 March). A cause of death is yet to be announced.
Daughter Sophie Jayne Grant, 28, said she is “devastated”, and called her father “a legend in so many ways”.
She said in a statement to The Sun: “He always brought a smile and laughter to everyone’s face. He would do anything for anyone and was a massive Arsenal fan.”
The actor was 4ft, 4in and called himself “the king of the Dwarfs”.
He played one of the unnamed Ewoks in the 1983 Star Wars film Return of the Jedi, sharing the screen with actors Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford.
Grant also co-starred with Tom Cruise in Legend (1985), David Bowie in Labyrinth (1986) and Val Kilmer in Willow (1988), and filmed an uncredited role in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
In Brian Henson’s fantasy film Labyrinth, in which he played one of the Goblin Corps, Grant also served as the stunt double for Hoggle, who was performed by Shari Weiser and voiced by Brian Henson.
Grant’s girlfriend, Maria Dwyer, paid tribute to the actor, writing: “Paul was the love of my life. The funniest man I know. He made my life complete. Life is never going to be the same without him.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Grant’s stepdaughter, who wrote: “I’m starting this page as Paul sadly passed away yesterday and I would like to give him the best send off he would want.”
Three weeks before his death, Grant was filmed at the same location he collapsed, discussing how he “blew” his Star Wars fortune and was “drinking too much”.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said of Grant’s collapse: “We were called at 2.08pm on Thursday 16 March to reports of an incident at St Pancras Station, Euston Road.
“We sent an ambulance crew and a medic in a response car. We treated a man at the scene and took him to hospital as a priority.”
Grant is survived by his girlfriend Maria, his two daughters and one son as well as his stepchildren and grandchildren.

She cleaned up well enough just 9 years ago. :'(
Her best Quotes
1. “My shit-uation sexually/affectionately speaking is so dire that inanimate objects are starting to look good as are inappropriate and/or unavailable men and/or inappropriate and/or unavailable fruits and vegetables. I tell you yams are looking like the winners.”
2. “I’ve been repeatedly asked will I ‘do anal sex’. Let me make it very clear … Any man I contemplate has to be into anal sex … yes I ‘do anal’ and in fact I would be deeply unhappy if ‘doing anal’ wasn’t on the menu, amongst everything else$$ So if u don’t like ‘the difficult brown’ … Don’t apply.”
3. “I did once ask [Irish politician] Alan Shatter to spank me … Of course Alan turned me down. As sensibly, did [U2 member] Adam Clayton (the only do-able one in the band). I wonder if he’d known I would have let him in the tradesman’s entrance would he have stopped to think about it for a millisecond.”
4. “Went 2 doctor. He told me stop wanking. I said ‘why?’. He said ‘cuz I’m trying to examine u.’”
5. “obligatory inter-racial sex in ireland wud solve our racist problems. I’d be very willing to be of assistance..”
6. “Going bed. Alone. Hey u guys in U.S? Dave Chapelle is my dream man. Can u find out if he’s single and likes the backdoor?”
7. “1 U.S guy e mailed simply saying ’I’m a great ass-fucker’ now why can’t Irish guys use such great opening (pardon pun) lines?”
8. “Crying now. All alone. Saturday night. Every ugly bitch in the world is gettin’ porked but me. : (“
9. “I have begged God, that while he rightly banishes me from good men like yourself or Robert Downey Junior or Adam, could he salvage me a few from the section in-between guys like youse and guys like the one this week who because he is living with the mother of his children offered me a ‘once off experience which will guarantee you years of masturbatory material and will involve you crying in pain and being humiliated in a corner’ Yikes!”
10. “I must say, my greatest amusement this week is that on this day last week I had 3 followers on twitter. since I mentioned anal sex I have almost 2000!”
11. “I must end now as I have a hot date with a banana”

RIP
I always found it interesting how Buffett lived in Omaha and Munger in LA but they continued their business relationship over the years.
Both men remained mentally sharp into their 90s.
Although Munger's death had to be expected it must still be an emotional event for Buffett.
BH will end its phenomenal run soon when Buffett passes.

He says being there for his family and his sons is most important.
So why didn't he lose weight and improve his diet?

The lower faculty of my mind feels satisfaction when perennial roid heads die. I don’t know why and I can’t help it.
Perhaps there’s something about an arrogant fuck nut who routinely says, “Hey guys, I went to the doc. I got my labs. All is well. Me fine. Heehee,” as he bathes his cells with harmful drugs for years that that induces such schadenfreude.
