I thought karate was just a bunch of social misfits and middle-aged sex offenders trying to boost their self-esteem by kicking children, chopping plywood, and generally avoiding getting hit in the face at all costs?

Looks like a sloppy boxing match or MMA minus grappling.

That's not karate.

Real karate does not translate to cage fighting.

Little bastard is talented. He's like a slightly taller, less refined Darren Avey.

Great fighter but doesn't look like karate. More like MMA.

This is Karate:

True karate has strikes to all the vital targets.

Impossible to have in sport competition.

On a side note, the one-punch karate strike is mocked by many but the recent NFL player almost died from strike to his sternum.

I don't want this to devolve into which type of hand-to-hand style is the best.

From a purely self-defense aspect, many are useful.

Muay Thai destroys Karate.

You are confusing sport with self-defense and killing techniques.

Muay Thai is a sport like boxing.  They wear gloves.  They have rules.

It's certainly useful in a bar fight.

True karate is for disabling and killing an attacker and uses strikes to vital targets.

I am talking about true karate, not what they teach your kid at the local karate school.

Would you say Muay Thai is superior to military style combat techniques or street fighting techniques designed to kill?

I'm aware of the difference. We are are talking about ring sports and the way they are both taught to the vast majority of people.

'Muay Thai' is part of the same family of fighting style which includes Muay Boran, Lethwei (Myanmar) and Pradal Serey (Cambodia).

Which were created for, and used on the battlefield in the constant wars between these South East Asian kingdoms.

Muay Thai has been adapted to western style boxing rules in order to be a competitive sport but it's original form and origins are also for killing.

Lethwei is still bare knuckle and includes head butts and throws.

Muay Boran still retains strikes for killing or maiming which the sport version obviously cannot use.

Muay Thai movements are designed to be as practical and effective as possible without any rigid stylised techniques being used as in Karate.

Boxing and muay for standup

Wrestling for takedowns and control on ground maybe some judo and mount/guard bjj (just learn to defend triangle and try pass guard/escape from mount  and rear naked which is almost death anyway) and basic judo
But none of it matters if you get rocked with one or two by a Heavyweight

If you’re a natural fighter you can see what works and what doesn’t

I’ve won a few national titles in tkd and kickboxing which doesn’t mean much

You’ll never see me throw a roundhouse kick in a street fight too dangerous

I'd rather see a video thread of killing techniques instead of this.  ::)

I don't know the kata but the martial art must be one that deals with only torso strikes. ;D

I can't figure out what he is really trying to accomplish with martial arts. Is he going to try bodybuilding next?
