Post by: Thin Lizzy on January 25, 2023, 06:27:34 AM
Anyone use them for squatting or any other activity? Are they of value? Thx.

I have a pair I throw on for heavy sets of squats. Keeps the joint tight.

I believe I have this model from "Tuff".

There are many good manufactures out there though. (Cerberus, etc).

Use them occasionally for squats, and a few other things. Biggest thing I get out of them is keep the joints warm, butter the leg up with some icy hot, etc.... put on the sleeves, it a nice feeling that keeps the stiffness at bay.

Never used until a few months ago at SC's suggestion.

Game changer for me - best equipment investment since my viking press.

These were 30 bucks:

Worth a shot.

I wear for working sets only.

I use a pair of SBD sleeves little expensive but decent.

https://sbdapparel.com/products/knee-sleeves

you need a measuring tape to get the right size/right fit.

Would like to add, not one of those morons who put them on the moment they enter the gym and walk around the entire workout with them on.

I used a single Ace wrap on each knee.  Of course that was decades ago which bhanky has deemed automatically disqualifies my input.

But it worked for me.   I have thought about trying elbow sleeves but worry that they won't fit right. Has anyone had trouble with the fit and comfort of either knee or elbow sleeves?

I used to fear that Chris Dickerson wore elbow sleeves and that's why he was morphing into some sort of mutant humangaloid with an exoskeleton from his HUGE elbows down . Seriously though, I would like to know how elbow sleeves fit and do they stay put, etc.

They're fucking amazing, the best possible gym purchase. they go hard as fuck in the winter, why doesn't everyone own a pair.
these are good and cheap, plus they have the little grippy things to keep them from sliding down

I use them regularly on my working sets of squats, they do help of your knees get sore from squatting.

I got some a couple of weeks ago, I was getting some pain and tightness in my knees the day after training.
I have only used them twice but my knees feel more stable and supported than when I dont use them

Great replies. I don’t go very heavy anymore but it would be nice to put a little more on the bar without knee pain.

I feel as though the quads can do more but the knee joint is the limiting factor.

I tried knee wraps in the 90s, hated, and why I never tried sleeves until recently.

5mm rehband are the best I have had.

I firmly believe that the wrapping of the knee with ace bandage is what ends up causing a lot of problems.  You are creating an over compressive force on the patella as it glides in its grove increasing the potential for chondomalacia patellae.  This can easily lead to tracking issues and this more wear and tear on the knee compartment.

I only use the sleeves when going heavier.  I have two pairs of 7mm...and feel they are WAY too much.

I`d buy some sleeves and give them a shot, but I don`t train legs heavy anymore....they sound great though.

Honestly, you don't really need to be doing heavy sets to get some benefit.  Keeping the knee "warm" will have those joints feeling better.  Don't get suckered into thinking they feel so good that you pound the shit out of them and regret it the next day.

When I have a high volume of squatting motions....I will use my knee sleeves.  Yeah, I'm that pussy

That is what I posted originally - 30 bucks - good, cheap way to take a flyer on them.

Knee sleeves really make sore knees feel much better. Old people considering knee replacement surgery should try sleeves first especially the copper infused ones.
