I buy a used suv, change the front struts myself, good as gold, need a wheel alignment. I take it to Kal Tire, 150 for an alignment. An hour in they come to me say "theres an issue". They, I repeat they, they told me they busted it and show me its some bold on a control arm or something. Im like so youre gonna fix it? They say yes, but it will cost me a thousand dollars. THEY bust it and want to charge me a grand, and they say they wont release the suv to me til its fixed
AVESHER SNAPS, LOSES IT, cops called, people hiding.
In this case losing it pays off, they pay for the suv to get towed to my place and dont charge me a dime for the alignment. I shouuld have instantly known when a 19 year old negroid kid with dreads went to work on my suv that it was doomed
In the end, Im pretty sure I can get away with a weld to fix it, 100 bucks max.
Fuck Kal Tire
-
Fuck that shit.
-
Getting the wheels fixed up for a road trip to Kitty Hawk?
-
Dude that’s awful.
I hate when these “repair places” really aren’t and they try to screw your over. I hope you file a complaint or threaten a lawsuit to get your car fixed.
-
What do they say in high end stores....."You break it,you own it.
The same thing should apply here.....They broke it,they fix it.
Assholes!
-
Ummm.. where to start.
If I lived near you I would've done it for you for free.
Not sure how they snapped shit..
Knee grow probably used a big pole to help him crack one off open one of your tie-rod nuts and what he was levering off - broke.. ???

It's literally like if an employee took a hammer, smashed my window then told me I had to pay for it and can't take the vehicle until it's fixed

Exactly.....fuck that......only a fool would pay for something like that in this case.

Unless you know your shit, don't go welding your (suspension/steering) shit.

Im waiting for it to geet here but i believe its this part and the circled hole where the bolt goes through, the entire bolt is still in there other than the head. Ill post pic of actual issue when suv gets here

Oo thanks. I was curious..
Okay, so he snapped the head off the bolt.
I don't know what tf that part is tbh.. never seen it before.. but it doesn't look like anything toe/camber/castor related so I'm not sure why they'd try to loosen those bolts. Wheel-alignment-related bolts/nuts are thick/big. They look like little 3/8"-1/2" / 10-13mm bolts.

(Fucking internet died)
Cool.
Other weird thing about your pic is it says "2WD".
I'm pretty sure your vehicle is a 4WD
and you got (attempted to get) a 4 wheel alignment (hence the $150 Canadian).
So you could have the wrong pic/part there..
It sucks for both parties. All these headaches now over a fucking bolt.
-
what kal tire location was it ? city ,address, phone number ?
-
Brian, has similar trouble with his truck.
Maybe ask him how he handled it?

Physically he needs a front strut change and wheel alignment, but the titanium pins don't weld

There you go. Those pics make sense.
They're your rear camber adjustment bolts..
Could be a very easy fix.. if you can remove the bolts from the rear (of what the pics show.. the other side of the bolts) I believe you should (easily) be able to (with a breaker bar and socket).. I'm brain-farting atm.
I don't remember ever removing them before.. (oh maybe once or twice) as you don't have to to do an alignment.
You'll need to order/find/get the same bolts.. that could be the biggest headache.
I'd spray the other 3 with WD40 now..
and then I'd loosen the other 3 before going shopping to see if they're okay (in case the others break).

Lmao! I envisioned something like this in my head

Sounds like a MILF situation
-
Sorry you had to repeat yourself bro, I’ve never heard one of these shops take credit for breaking something themselves, it’s always, “this was broke” or “it was damaged when you brought it in”. The kid was probably over tightening when he broke the head off.

What a beta twink. You should have taken glasses gal from behind and made him felch the cream pie.

thats exactly what happened, heres the bolt from the other side
-
Job botching fuckheads.
Grind flats onto the bolt tail to get a wrench on it. Definitely soak it in penetrating oil for a day if it fights you trying to turn. Heating the bolt and letting it cool can help, also heating the part with the hole before turning.
-
dude
thank you so much, I appreciate the help
No worries, bro. You're welcome. I don't feel like I done anything..
Wish I could do more, fix it for you, massage you, blow you...
Fuck, Dave. I just deleted an essay I wrote because of your post. But I'm glad I saw it.
Good thinking. I didn't think of that for some reason.
I assumed the knee grow snapped it off while trying to LOOSEN the nut.
But after rereading post #1, it seems that he did (over-)tighten it after finishing the aligment.
Josh: are you sure he broke it while tightening the nut? Were you there waiting and saw them working on your beast of peace?
Well yeah.. if that's the case, then they broke your shit and should pay for everything...
Tell them they didn't use a torque wrench and as a result the knee grow snapped the bolt.. tell them to fix your shit (if you cbf) for $0 or you'll take them to court.

they just straight out told me they broke it, took me to the back to show me and told me how they broke it
I can fix this, I just want to be done with them
trying to round up more people to 1 star review them

Cool. Let us know how you go.
I cbf leaving them a (brutal) review.. sorry dude. It would require/use too much brain power and I might fry my circuits. I suck at.. words.. especially now.
That reminds me.... I done something similar for you in the past.. which you were very grateful for.
Here's a hint.... Hacksaw Jim Duggan 2x4 + home reno/improvement forum.
Now don't go revealing my ID to everyone.. if you remember..

looks like they snapped the nut off, not the bolt head, its likely accidental shit happens but dam theuyare really shitty not to fix that , them just having a lift makes mechanics alot easier. Ive gotta replace my cv axles i know its gonna be a pain but i rust no mechanic
-
I'm having a tough time remembering exactly what those bolts are like..
I think I've only removed them once or twice, like 10+ years ago.. even though I've loosened/tightened them hundreds of times.
They look like regular bolts (on the "outside") but I think they or some are a bit umm... words dammit.. they aren't completely smooth.. and might be a bit of a pain to remove (even though it looks easy af) if you're doing it at home on the floor.
Quick google search of your vehicle info along with "rear camber bolts" and you should be able to find out.. everything.
Yeah there'll be bushes there.. suss 'em out.. would be a good time to replace them.
He'll/you'll be okay.
Just soak those bolts first.. give them several whacks with a hammer.. and use a 6-point socket if you have one to avoid fucking the bolt-head.
Correct Marty. Bolt head is fine.

theres no way im doing all 4 of the camber bolts
im halfway tempted to just drive it the way it is that bolt is going nowhere
but ill try and get the 1 bolt out and replace it

Yeah, that's fine. Do the one. Disregard what I said earlier about changing the others. That was when I thought they broke your bolt when trying to loosen it..
Ummm..... deleted.
I'm doing my own head in.
Far too tired. Have pulled an all-nighter to reset my body clock. Don't mind me.
Oh yeah.. I don't think you should drive it like that. At the very least, your camber settings can go full retard.. or should I say, full negative or positive.

Ya I won't drive it. Hopefully fix it monday

Explain this to me like I'm five
Let's say the bolt is seized in there, heat, oil, hammering it, absolutely nothing budged it, it will never move.
So how is driving it like that any different than when the nut was on? It's clearly never coming out, it's position won't change. What anm I missing
-

I'm out of my depth on this.
I'm guessing that the bolt head and washers would serve to sandwich together the 2 things the bolt passes through. The bolt shank still being in place would stop things sliding like when you rub your palms together but there's nothing to stop your palms separating? And if it's bushed then I guess the 2 parts are supposed to be able to pivot around the bush & bolt so you can't just weld shit together.
I've never worked on that part of a vehicle tho. The horse porn guy might be your best bet.

Is that what you actually done/tried?
If so, did you have the corner you were working on raised (wheel off the ground) or not?
That's what I meant earlier.. what was doing my head in.. how I felt there would be a problem with removing it. Something I couldn't can't quite remember or wasn't isn't adding up.. like I struggled with this too in the past.
The problem might just be that.. you need to raise the wheel / jack up the vehicle.
I think the hole the bolt passes through is elongated... Idk.
Fuck.. I really wish I could be there right now.
-

I haven't tried anything yet. All I asked is I genuinely don't understand why it can't be driven if that bolt is literally never going anywhere. Makes no sense to me
-

It will eventually come loose through vibration, torquing while turning and heating/cooling cycles.
Replacing that bolt isn't as easy as it looks.
-

I believe the bolt can work its way loose when you're driving.. and can happen quickly.
(Hmmm.. perhaps you should just drive up and down your street to easily remove the bolt ha)
If they adjusted the W/A of that corner of your vehicle, then the bolt most definitely moved/turned. Just because they snapped part of it off, it doesn't mean the bolt's seized in there.
Were you given a printout of your old vs new W/A settings?? That would likely show if they turned the bolt or not. I'm sure they did.. after going through the effort of loosening the nut.. <-- that's the hard part. Adjusting the camber / turning the bolt is the easy/enjoyable part.
Apologies for delay and half retarded answers. I'm operating at 6% right now. Looking forward to reading my posts here tomorrow.. not. :-\

Glad it worked out for you, bro.
Can't stand when auto repair shops and anybody tries to rip off the common man.

If it has tits or mechanical parts, sooner or later it`s gonna` give you trouble.

Once bought a second hand car with a 12 month warrenty from a car salesroom
After about a month the clutch started slipping
I took it back and the guy said the warrenty "doesnt cover wear and tear or anything that breaks"
I then asked him what did it cover and then he realised his mistake
I just said "Fix the fucking car"
-
Nothing is fucking easy. You can't even get a wheel alignment.
Josh, post up their email.

Cool. Just don't over-do it.. get lazy/careless.. think "I'll drive another 10 miles then check it.. cbf getting in-out all the time".
Goal is to loosen the bolt... not let it fall out while driving.
I wouldn't even drive it. I'd just go Jackie Chan on the bolt.
Btw, here is what I meant about your bolts possibly - not being "smooth" earlier

I used to have a Dodge Durango and I was driving on the highway going about 65 MPH......I hit the small sideroad that leads to the route I live on,so I was going much slower, when all of a sudden my passenger side rear wheel comes right the fuck off!
I was lucky it didn`t happen at 65 MPH.....not a good day.
Great car, could climb Mt. Everest, get out of any amount of snow, but if you drove it around the block twice, 65 bucks worth of gas expended.

haha I built a Toyota lowrider truck, was driving it one day and my rear right wheel came off and passed me and took off down the road for about 300 yards. I was more fascinated with how far it went than the face it came off
