Title: What protein powder are you using these days?
Post by: ProudVirgin69 on March 26, 2023, 11:07:30 AM
Whole protein sources might be marginally better (inconclusive) but you can’t beat the convenience, ease of consumption, and price of protein powders.  I was an Optimum Nutrition guy for years but their whey protein went from $50/5lbs to like $80  >:(

I’ve still been buying it because i “trust” the brand (oh brother) and it’s cheaper than other protein sources but I’m on the lookout for a less expensive alternative.

Anyone have a different brand they’ve been using?

Great product. Can’t find it anymore for less than $140 for the five pound bag.

10 pound bag of Optimum Whey and Now Sports Whey Isolate unflavored. Want it cheaper? Buy in largest size possible and use coupons or wait for sales. It’s currently $128 for 10 lbs on Vitamin Shoppe and $121 for milk chocolate on Amazon for US buyers. Costco is also good for Optimum or Dymatize whey when it’s on sale

Optimum Nutrition.  I like the taste of the Vanilla, which I usually blend with frozen strawberries and milk. It tastes like a strawberry milkshake and I view it as a desert, but it's probably healthy too.

That and fish oil are what I get from Vitamin shop.  Neither are cheap.

Same here. I usually do frozen blueberries and almond butter. It’s lovely

Follow slickdeals .net and you can get it for like $7-8 a lb.

Myprotein was best  - they had sales all the time for 11 lb bags for $55, but with the shortage, those have been $180.  Their salted caramel is probably the best tasting one ever.

I've pretty much dropped powders - not because I'm anti-powder, just prefer to eat whole foods.

Thanks, iron brother. I’ll check it out

I get mine at costco. I have scored 2 lb jugs of Metrx at ollies for 8 bucks each! I bought all they had. lol. Also meijer own brand is good. Walmart sells some for about 18 bucks for 2 lbs. Aldi has some even cheaper. We can argue all day long which is best etc but honestly there is so little difference in all types that there is NO reason to spend big money on any of it. It does not make a difference. If they did everyone who drinks shakes would be walking around looking like a huge son of a bitch. BUT it doesnt do that. No one actually sees or can tell a difference from taking shakes. PERIOD.  Say you do all you want but you really don't. There is also no need to eat or drink every 3 hours. That was an idea to sell SUPPLEMENTS!! Do you think Arnold and company really ate every 3 hours?  Carried their food with them? Drank shakes all the time? Made sure they had all their " macros" ?  LMAO. NO. They worked out hard ate when they wanted and rested. Look at how they looked then! The best ever!  These blobs now days over eat over drug over rest and under train! So in conclussion  remember to work out hard and often. Eat when you are hungry. If you can't eat drink a shake. sleep like you are suppossed to. There is no magic trick. No magic drugs. ( yes drugs help for sure)  No magic protein .
Everything works together. Food. Drugs. Sleep , genetics and workouts.  You can get by without some of those to the extreme but never can you get by without great workouts. Hard ball busting workouts and do them often. There is no shortcut. But there lots of people trying to sell you things to get your money. We were all kids once. We all believed the magazines and the ads. Didn't know then they were just there to get your money. So drink shakes if you want but only if you can't get a meal. You do not need constant amounts of amino acids flowing through your body. The body repairs itself when you sleep. So sleep well and make sure you do have nurishment to heal while you are sleeping. Pretty simple.

Most of this is true.

However, mixability and taste are important, and that's where spending extra dollars can have impact.

As far as ingredients, also would look for the least amount of artificial crap.

Tell me about it. I used to pay $40 for the 3.3lb container just a couple of years ago or less now it's $75.  >:(

Beverly International.  I don't use protein powder much so a small jug lasts a few months.  I may go a week at a time without using any.  When I do use it, it is mostly for making pudding at night when I want some "dessert" (one scoop powder, 2 scoops Sugar Free Greek Yogurt) or when I am flying out for a gig and I will make 4-6 protein brownies to have with me and keep the airport/airline food to a minimum.

It is.  And out of all the ones I tried in the past, theirs does not bother my stomach either.
