I finally saw the infamous documentery on excessive drug use in bodybuilding . It features Gregg Valentino, the "Ramblin' Freak " of MD with the absurd synthol arms.
The show is a hard hitting , candid look at the "dark side" of hardcore bodybuilding. The bottom line thread is that drug use is bad,... really bad in hardcore bodybuilding.
This hardly news to us , but it was pretty cool seeeing on screen in such an open way.
As for Greg V., hmmmm, where do I start. The man appears to have some degree of basic intelligence , a good sense of humor and fun loving personality, etc. However, after seeing this documentery I am convinced GV has some form of body dysmorphic disorder. Obviously, the absurd our of proportion cartoon like arms, that he used any means to obtain, is the big hint. In addition to that I found it odd how he posed with his shirt and pants on, showing only his arms, delts and would let his chest show a small bit.
He seemed very insecure about his overall physique and only wanted to exhibit his over blown arms.
The ironic thing is that when he had a decent looking physique with smaller but proportional, defined arms,he was just another good local bodybuilder, not a freak. being a sideshow freak put him on the map as a minor celeb in bodybuilding, while it forced him out of ever getting to compete again.
He made his fame and cult following by becoming a freak.
Why anyone would want to folow a guy who ruined his physique to the point he would be laughed at in posing trunks on stage is beyond me. In the end I suspect GV knew he needed "something" to get the attention he craved.
